Featuring the "Odyssey Adventure System," advanced graphics, and a dynamic approach to quests, Ultima X combines the appeal of massively-multiplayer games with the quest- and virtue-based game play of the classic Ultima titles. Rather than simply build on the gameplay and universe of UO, Origin has decided to reach further back and build a brave new online world based on the original single-player Ultima titles. Here's the premise: the Avatar, who finally ascended at the conclusion of Ultima IX, has decided to create an entire world specifically in order to test would-be heroes. The ongoing success of the original Ultima Online left the development team at Origin with an interesting dilemma. Despite celebrating its sixth birthday next month, Ultima Online now boasts its highest subscription numbers ever: over a quarter million people are still subscribers!
