Tribes: Vengeance

Good

The latest Tribes game isn't as innovative or deep as the previous installments, but makes up for it with pulse-pounding online action and a rewarding solo campaign. Read Review

Third game in the successful first-person shooter series. The endless war has begun. The Empire and the Tribes now fight as much over resources as they do for revenge. But when a war spans generations, it becomes a mother's quest to discover the truth about the conflict, and an heir's duty to break free from the cycle of vengeance. Play as multiple characters across two generations of a family at war in the first ever Tribes single player experience. An upgraded physics system seamlessly integrates jet-packing, running, skiing and piloting into one dynamic experience, and new weapons and vehicles add to the classic Tribes arsenal and guarantee a fight like no other. Battle in vast locations from underground caverns and forgotten cities to acid wastelands and mighty coliseums and join the war online with extensive multiplayer action for up to 32 players.

Tribes: Vengeance

PC Reviews | Oct 8, 2004

Tribes has been reborn from the ashes. Not long after the release of Tribes 2 back in 2001, series creator Dynamix was shut down, and the future of the series was in doubt. Tribes has been resurrected at the hands of Irrational Games, who've deftly recaptured the basic feel of the first two Tribes games while streamlining the series' classic gameplay. Tribes: Vengeance may lack some of the complexity and depth that helped make Starsiege Tribes and Tribes 2 so good, but make no mistake, it's still an engaging team shooter. Tribes is also a solo shooter for the first time: Vengeance includes a full single-player campaign, and a very good one at that. Irrational has also taken Tribes to a whole new level visually and introduced new game modes, weapons, vehicles, and maps. Tribes: Vengeance isn't all that it could have been, but more often than not it's still an exciting game. Read More »

Tribes: Vengeance

PC Previews | Sep 3, 2004

The Tribes series has always been ahead of its time. Both Starsiege: Tribes (1998) and Tribes 2 (2001) offered online combat with a level of depth that put most of their rivals to shame. Complex team tactics, huge battlefields, jetpacks, land and air vehicles, user-definable character "classes" -- the Tribes series had it all. Actually, there was one thing missing: substantial single-player action. This October, you'll get to play the latest game in the series, Tribes: Vengeance. Developer Irrational Games wants to bring you more thrilling online action just like you'd expect, while also providing an extensive single-player experience worthy of the name. We recently got our hands on a beta version of the single-player campaign, and from what we've seen Irrational is ready to deliver the goods. Read More »
