I'm intrigued by WildStar. The sci-fi MMO from start-up Carbine Studios has a fantastic, Ralph Bakshi meets Frank Frazetta art style, and as the devs revealed today, the unique Explorer class offers platforming adventure. What better way to really delve into a game world? A couple more reveals came from the team this morning, including a biggie: WildStar will be released this year.

I feel like we haven't heard from Carbine about WildStar in some time, so if you're scratching your head about the MMO, here's the announcement trailer that launched back in 2011:

WildStar is set on Nexus, a planet at the "edge of known space," and players will become Explorers, Soldiers, Scientists, and Settlers and attempt to unravel the many mysteries of their new home. Of note, it features a "Momentum" meter that gradually builds as players land or evade attacks, granting greater experience bonuses as the meter builds. In short, it's a system designed to reward players who play the game with skill.

Now that you're caught up, Carbine (along with announcing the 2013 release window) unveiled the Explorer and Soldier paths today. See how they cater to some different play styles below:

Looks fun. As someone that's not big on traditional MMOs, I like what Carbine is cooking. And the early returns sound good: Nathan had a chance to spend some time with the MMO awhile back. See what he thought in his feature, An Hour With WildStar.
