The long-awaited return of StarCraft has been rumored for years, and now is finally official -- Blizzard officially announced on May 19, 2007 the sequel to its incredible strategy title Starcraft.
Designed to be the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game, StarCraft II features the return of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races, overhauled and re-imagined with Blizzard's signature approach to game balance. Each race will be further distinguished from the others, with several new units and new gameplay mechanics, as well as new abilities for some of the classic StarCraft units that will be making a reappearance in the game. StarCraft II also featurse a custom 3D-graphics engine with realistic physics and the ability to render several large, highly detailed units and massive armies on-screen simultaneously.
Each chapter of Starcraft II focuses on a specific faction of the Starcraft war. By splitting the game, players will access more story content, more characters, and more customization as the explore each side of the conflict.

Sarah Kerrigan was a Terran psychic and Ghost assassin. Thanks to a little Zerg DNA splicing, she became the Queen of Blades. Then, with an assist from Jim Raynor in Wings of Liberty, she was transformed into... hmm. Who or what is Kerrigan now? Tough to say, what with that alien insect hairdo, but we'll find out for sure in the upcoming StarCraft II expansion. Heart of the Swarm's been in development for frickin' ages. I tinkered with it when it was first announced back in June, and now, six months later, it's still half a lifetime away. I think its long pre-release hibernation is testament to how hard Blizzard have been working on tweaking the StarCraft 2 expansion, though, and it seems they're finally getting ready to show it off to more people ahead of the March 12th, 2013 release date -- the doorway to the beta is slowly widening before us, bathing us in the warm glow of zerg-infested sci-fi goodness. I'd love to go toe-to-toe with a StarCraft pro. I'm godawful terrible in the sci-fi RTS's competitive multiplayer, but the humiliation would be well worth it to experience first hand how ridiculous 300 actions per minute really is. I imagine it would be like lining up for the 100-meter dash against Usain Bolt. I played StarCraft's single-player campaigns. I played StarCraft 2's campaign. And yet, I never would have thought to ask some of the questions in Blizzard's latest StarCraft 2 blog post. For the way more hardcore fan than me (probably a lot of you), I'm sure they've been burning a hole in your mind, but I was pretty happy with the information I was given in those games.
