Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed

Good

Galaxies is finally hits the stars. But how does the new content fare? Read Review

The heavily-anticipated flight expansion pack to LucasArts' blockbuster MMORPG, Star Wars Galaxies. The new expansion offers players their first chance to jump into the seat of a number of different starfighters and seek their fortune in the vast, dark reaches of space. Aside from the aspects directly involving spaceships, there are many other additions to be included in the expansion, such as two new species, additional professions and more.

Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed

PC Reviews | Nov 17, 2004

Jump to Lightspeed brings to Galaxies the essential element that it's been lacking since launch: the ability to travel to space. In retrospect, it seems absurd that a Star Wars MMO launched without these elements, but regardless, the game's player base grew large (and not to mention vocal). With Jump to Lightspeed, Galaxies finally feels complete, at least in terms of features. I'm sure many would argue that the game's scheduled combat revamp has to happen before it can claim any semblance of completeness, but there's no denying the sense of wholeness and cohesion that Jump to Lightspeed brings. The fact that it's fairly seamlessly integrated with what was there before helps this significantly; if you've been playing Galaxies since before the expansion, the ways in which you progress through the new content will immediately make sense. You'll also be quite accustomed to how long it takes to advance. But that's a whole other topic. Read More »

Out of the Box: Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed

PC Previews | Nov 3, 2004

So it's finally live: the expansion that takes Galaxies into space, and legitimizes its association with the Star Wars universe. But enough pontification. If you've read our coverage of Jump To Lightspeed throughout its beta phase, then you'll know that it's completely on-point in the "look and feel" department. How well all this space stuff would mesh with the ground game, and perhaps more importantly, how distinctly separate they would develop, were the real questions. Already, it's evident that the playerbase has approached the expansion's new content with hungry fervor: every other player character on my server is rocking either an orange Alliance flightsuit, or its ominous all-black Imperial counterpart. Similarly, it's hard to walk off a shuttle without being accosted by shipwrights' droids hawking their masters' wares. Galaxies is a changed game, and there's no question about it. Read More »

Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed

PC Previews | Oct 15, 2004

We've heard it all before: it ain't Star Wars without, well, wars fought amidst the stars. LucasArts knows this well, and though it's been a long time coming, the remedy to Star Wars Galaxies' downright disturbing lack of outer space elements is almost upon us. Just a few days ago we heard from the publisher that it was cool to write about the recently initiated beta program for Jump to Lightspeed, and needless to say, we jumped on it. I personally made a tailored-for-space Sullustan for the occasion (remember Lando's fish friend during the epic space battle in Jedi?), and took to the stars -- after jumping through a couple of hoops, of course. With the lure of the final frontier beckoning, I couldn't get off the ground soon enough. Read More »
