The franchise that laid the foundations of the city building simulation genre is back, empowering players to create the world of their imagination! This new edition of SimCity marks a true rebirth of the franchise that brings the depth of simulation that has been the series hallmark for more than two decades and marries it with next generation accessibility and a robust multiplayer mode, giving players the power to change a world together. Players take charge of their own customized cities and build a world that co-exists alongside friends. For the first time in SimCity franchise history, players' decisions will have long-lasting repercussions that will extend beyond their city limits. Together, players will address real global challenges such as climate change, the search for renewable resources and natural disasters. It’s up to the players to decide whether to compete or collaborate to shape the world of tomorrow -- for better or for worse.
Reaction to SimCity has been somewhat...mixed, shall we say? Plenty of people who've been exposed to the game have good things to say about the actual gameplay, but try as they might, Maxis and EA can't quite get away from the firestorm that requiring a constant internet connection generated in many PC gamers. We won't be able to fully judge the game until it's released, of course, but in the meantime, if you're interested in getting your hands on a slice of gameplay a bit early, Maxis has announced a second beta that'll be coming down the pipe on February 16th. Zoning residential, commercial, and industrial areas is free this time, guided by roads. The fundamentals are all there -- where this SimCity both outshines its predecessors and pales in comparison is in the multitude of details. Read More »
I'm having trouble getting past the fact online play is a requirement for the new SimCity, and the angry god in me is deeply disappointed I won't be able to save, destroy, and reload my creations. And yet I still want to play it. We'll all get our first chance next week when the SimCity beta goes live. Read More »
And now, for a game that needs no introduction, we have this introduction trailer. Yep! SimCity is just that good. We all know what SimCity's about now and this doesn't really show us anything new about the city-building giant, but it's a smartly put-together video and I think it more than hints at the fun we'll get to have. I can't help but trust a man with such a luscious mustache. I mean, look at SimCity Creative Director Ocean Quigley. I'm a bit disappointed he didn't get more time on-camera, but I guess all the information he's sharing with us about the new SimCity is pretty cool, too. Read More »
