As a hardcore baseball fan I demand visual authenticity in my MLB videogames. That means accurate player portraits, uniform colors, and corporate sponsors littering my favorite ballpark. That's where the dedicated baseball videogame modding community over at MVPmods steps up to the plate and delivers a handful of baseball mods that add some authenticity to MLB 2K12 that was missing before. Yes, I still have some issues with MLB 2K12 -- and none of these mods are going to fix the multiplayer -- but if you're a stickler for the details in baseball like I am, these are five mods you can't live without.

Note: You'll have to sign up to the MVPmods community (it's free) before you can download any of these mods.

Baseball Accessories Pack

Licensing deals are expensive, and not every real-world ad, shoe, or bat made it into MLB 2K12. That's where Pena1's 2K12 Accessories Pack comes into play, adding new textures for a variety of baseball equipment. Want to equip your players with some Reebok Pro Cooperstown Low Zigs, and NIKE Diamond Elite PRO Batting gloves, or be able to select some new bat colors? This is the mod for you. You might still perform terribly on the field, but damned if you won't look better doing it. Download Here

National and American League Stadiums

Corporate sponsorships have appeared in Major League Baseball stadiums for over 100 years. And while it's understandable why these types of ads don't appear in a licensed baseball game (why should 2K give free advertising?) some fans aren't willing to tolerate their inauthentic absence. This mod corrects that, and earns bonus points for all of the special anniversary and commemorative signage that now appears in the parks, like the Dodgers 50th anniversary logo. Download National League Stadiums Here, and American League Stadiums Here.

Onfield Display Mod

Pena1 does it again, but this time it's a literal game-changer. For example, if you're playing with an Xbox 360 controller, the on-screen overlay button prompts correctly list the button on the controller. There are plenty of minor tweaks as well, such reducing the circle opacity when fielding a fly ball, and changing the baseball cursor when pitching. For the whole list of changes be sure to check out the modding page. Download Here

Mega Portrait Pack

This one is for the sticklers out there who want to make sure they have the most up-to-date portraits for some of their favorite players. For example: do you really want The Prince wearing his Brewers hat now that he's part of the Tigers? Yeah, didn't think so. Chances are this portrait pack, loaded with 750 options, will have the update you're looking for. Helpfully, the mod's author put together a how-to video to help you through the installation process. Color-Corrected Uniforms

I'm not a Yankees fan, (nor will I ever be) but I can't imagine anything being more infuriating for the faithful fans in the Big Apple than to load up their baseball game and find that their boys aren't in that perfect shade of deep navy blue. This collection of mods is aimed at addressing not only the plight of the Yankees' uniforms, but for the Tigers and a handful of other teams. Download Here

Spy Guy says: Too bad you can't mod Major League Baseball player salaries to a respectable level. Who needs over $100 million dollars over five years?! Yes, I'm looking at you, Matt Cain. By the way, Matt, can you help me on a down payment for a spy plane?
