The sequel to the fantasy/role-playing RTS franchise, ing Arthur II features a new and darker fantasy setting. No longer a valiant ruler, King Arthur is now the Maimed King trying to mend a land almost beyond repair in a stunning new plot. More heroic, large scale battles with bigger armies are at reach to defeat more powerful foes. Intense boss fights never seen before promise to pit hero's forces against unique and terrifying enemies. Arthur II boasts a wide range of new camera control options, revised animations and an extensive tutorial will provide for the ultimate gaming experience.
Despite its subtitle's best efforts to clear things up, King Arthur 2: The Role-Playing Wargame is confusing. I get that it's a fantasy-themed Total War clone with a campaign that fancifully retells the tale of the fall of Camelot, as Arthur's realm is overrun by evil beings from the netherworld and his most trusted friends and advisors disappear. But while it may have huge armies of fantasy units colliding in real-time tactical action, what it lacks is any real strategy, payoff, or reason to exist. Read More »

I'm still playing -- and largely enjoying -- King Arthur II's main campaign, but it is clear that it'll be impossible to recommend without major caveats. It's hard to enjoy a strategy game when it's encumbered by a bizarrely bad framerate and poor interface design that make chores out of simple tasks like opening a window or moving a unit.

Publisher Paradox Interactive debuted a new trailer for its upcoming King Arthur II: The Role-Playing Wargame at this week's Gamescom convention.
