One of the first mods created for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim opened up the game's entire 4GB virtual memory address space. As if to say, "Why didn't we think of that?" Bethesda's latest patch for Skyrim adds official support for 4GB tuning.

A few weeks back, Bethesda announced that the Creation Kit will be available for download in January, giving modders the same development kit the studio used to create Skyrim. Today's Large Address Aware patch is a first step toward enabling modders to get the very most out of the game -- officially.

And when the Creation Kit Skyrim mods begin hitting the tubes, Bethesda wants to make it easy for gamers to find and apply them. The studio is integrating the Creation Kit with Valve's Steam Workshop, allowing modders to automatically upload their mods to a hub where users can browse, select, and download the modifications of their choice.

"Like a live Netflix queue, when you fire up Skyrim, mods you flagged will be automatically downloaded and installed," Bethesda stated. "Everyone here is really excited about the opportunities and possibilities this opens up for our entire community."

No official release date beyond January has been announced for the Creation Kit. When it finally does arrive, we can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.
