While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has just achieved the title of "biggest entertainment launch in history", generating about $400 million in only 24 hours, it seems that PC gamers have shunned the blockbuster FPS in favor of this week's other big release, Skyrim. The proof lies in yesterday's Steam player count, which showed that the number of people playing Bethesda's RPG in the first 24 hours of release peaked at more 230,000 concurrent players.

How does this number compare to Modern Warfare 3? Well... Activision's FPS could only manage a more modest peak of 78,000 players for multiplayer, and around 42,000 for single-player.

If you have yet to read our reviews of either game, make sure you do so. We gave Skyrim a well-deserved perfect score... while MW3, despite being enjoyable, left us with a "it's more of the same" kind of feeling.

Thanks, PC Gamer.

Spy Guy says: With such a disparity in Steam player numbers, it makes you wonder how many of the 6.5 million copies of MW3 sold on launch day were actually for the PC platform. Clearly not many...
