As you can tell by our five-star review, we're big fans of Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. But like Oblivion before it, Skyrim is not without its flaws – flaws the modding community is eager to address. Now, just seven days after launch, a storage chest full of modifications have already rolled in, and we've selected five of the best to enhance your Skyrim experience. Northward!

Skyrim Map in Full 3D Mod

Bethesda's new 3D topographical map for Skyrim is a beaut, but it's noticeably lacking the ability to zoom in to get a more detailed look at your surroundings. Consider it lacking no more. With the Skyrim Map in Full 3D Mod, you'll transform the game's map into the fantasy videogame version of Google Streets, allowing you to zoom in to ground level, fully revealing the game world. This one is an absolute must for Skyrim players.

Skyrim Hard-Coded Key Tweaks Mod

PC The Elder Scrolls players have been complaining about the franchise's user interface for years, and while there are some slight improvements in Skyrim, performing relatively simple actions in the game can be a pain in the ass when using a keyboard and mouse. Thanks to the Skyrim Hard-Coded Key Tweaks Mod, the interface becomes at least tolerable. The mod allows your remapped keys to work instead of having to use the hard-coded ones, making exiting the map, closing books, ending dialogue/trading, and much more easier than before. The Hard-Coded Key Tweaks Mod goes a long way in transforming Skyrim into a game that feels like it was meant to be played with a keyboard and mouse.

Skyrim FXAA Post Process Injector Mod v1.3

Compared to Oblivion, Skyrim is a graphical revelation. That doesn't mean it's as good looking as it can be on PC, and the modding community has already done wonders in improving Skyrim's visuals. Step 1 in enhancing the look of Bethesda's world is the Skyrim FXAA Post Process Injector Mod, a modification that brings a host of post processing effects (bloom, sharpen, sepia, vignette, to name a few) to the game. In the above video, you can see how the dull color palette of the game is transformed into a brighter, more colorful one, bringing Skyrim a sense of sharpened vibrancy.

Skyrim Nude Mod

Kids: earmuffs. You knew this one was coming. We debated about including the Skyrim Nude Mod in our list due to the mature theme – aka boobies – but the "you can kill an entire town full of people, but you don't want people to see boobs?" argument won out. Whether or not this should be considered an "enhancement" for Skyrim is certainly up for debate, though.
