DayZ [Standalone]

Welcome to Chernarus -- an open world post-Soviet state and one of the areas hit by a new and presently unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world's population. You are one of the few who have survived and now you must search this new wasteland in order to fight for your life against what is left of the indigenous population, now infected with the disease.

Designed on an updated version of the powerful ArmA II engine, this stand-alone version of DayZ takes everything that stunned players in the original MOD to a new level. Expect a more complex and authentic scenario (with more infected character types and more fully-modeled building interiors) that will immerse you in the survival horror like never before.

"Everything Has Been Redone" for DayZ Standalone

PC News | Feb 18, 2013

Look, Dean "Rocket" Hall. We love DayZ. We appreciate the mod, and think it's pretty great. You really didn't have to go through all this trouble of making the standalone product so darn awesome. The fact that you've been completely remaking the zombie survival shooter from the ground up is completely unnecessary. Oh, you went ahead and did it anyway? Well, you're just the best. Read More »

New DayZ Trailer Demos Clothing, Loot

PC News | Feb 4, 2013

It's been a weird year for DayZ creator Dean Hall. After launching his addictive zombie-killing mod for Arma 2 last summer, he quickly saw it skyrocket in popularity, to the point where it was driving sales of Arma 2 itself. Arma's developer, Bohemia Interactive, decided to capture the lightning in the bottle by promptly hiring Hall and enlisting him to create a standalone version of Day Z. Happy times, until the similarly named and designed "WarZ" product was sold on Steam to howls of complaints about missing features and horrendous bugs, leading Steam to offer full refunds, a rarity for them. Hall seemed genuinely morose about the situation, and publicly mulled quitting game development altogether. Thankfully, he's out of his funk, and seems energetic about continuing development on DayZ. As such, he just now uploaded a new video showcasing some of the new features he's polishing up for the standalone DayZ, scheduled for release sometime this year. Read More »

DayZ Standalone Update Shows Off New Screens, Release Date Unknown

PC News | Jan 25, 2013

Progress on the DayZ standalone appears to be humming along now. Modder turned developer Dean "Rocket" Hall just issued another update, revealing that internal testing has begun and the results make him more excited about the project than he has been at any point in development. There's even a telling new screenshot that showcases just how far the zombie survival sim has come since it was an Arma 2 mod. Just don't think that any of that means we'll be playing it ourselves in the near future. Read More »

DayZ Devs Released from Jail, Dean Hall Reacts

PC News | Jan 15, 2013

Well, it looks like the (alleged) nationalistic farce that was the imprisonment of Arma 3/DayZ devs, Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar, on charges of espionage is temporarily over. Dean Hall, creator of the popular DayZ mod, expressed joy over the announcement: "It's really fantastic news...It is a huge relief, both personally and professionally." Read More »

Dean Hall Gives DayZ Standalone Update, Closed Beta Test Coming Soon

PC News | Jan 7, 2013

A closed beta test of the standalone version of DayZ is "imminent," creator Dean "Rocket" Hall revealed in a long-awaited update on the project today, and when it finally ships, DayZ won't simply be a slightly improved version of the mod, it will be a vastly upgraded zombie survival sim experience and everything "we all dreamed it could be."
