A Game of Dwarves

Average

A mining strategy game tries to dig deep, with shallow results. Read Review

The gameplay consists of ordering the inhabitants of a dwarven settlement to dig, build and conduct research in order to strengthen the clan, whilst defending themselves from the terrible beasts from the depths into which they delve. The game generates a unique world each time a new level starts, making sure that the player needs to dynamically adapt their strategies and tactics during a session.

As the player advances, the dwarves will level up and gain new skills, progressing from weak dwarflings to near immortal warriors or master craftsmen. There are also rare resources to be found deeper in the earth that grant access to better buildings and equipment. However, the deeper you dig the more dangerous foes you might unleash...

A Game of Dwarves Review

PC Reviews | Nov 1, 2012

A Game Of Dwarves sounds a lot like some of the other dwarf games out there, but though it shares the theme of building an underground base, it's nothing like the famously dense Dwarf Fortress. Nor is it Dwarfs?!?, last year's superb little arcade strategy game. Instead, A Game Of Dwarves is a close relative of Dungeon Keeper, Bullfrog's much-loved 1997 real-time base-building game, sharing the goals of doing research, building traps, leveling minions, and exploring underground. Unlike Dungeon Keeper, success in A Game Of Dwarves ended up feeling more like I'd mastered exploiting the obvious quirks in its system than actually become a good player. Read More »

Paradox Announces A Game of Dwarves

PC News | Jan 19, 2012

Swedish publisher Paradox has just announced A Game of Dwarves, described as "a classic management game with a fantasy twist," for release sometime in 2012. While there's no sign of Tyrion Lannister, GoD looks like it could be pretty entertaining -- it resembles a cartoony, less-evil version of Dungeon Keeper in which you guide a crew of half-pint miners to dig a really deep hole. Somewhere down there lurks an evil wizard who doesn't much like being disturbed. Check out the screenshots below. Read More »
