Blizzard All-Stars

Wage war with the most powerful heroes from Blizzard Entertainment's game universes in the explosive multiplayer game add-on pack Blizzard DOTA, based on the classic and hugely influential Defense of the Ancients game MOD. Blizzard DOTA is a team-based competitive game in which each player controls a powerful hero with unique abilities, and works with his or her team to invade and destroy the enemy team's base.

Over the course of a match, waves of computer-controlled creatures for each team advance automatically across the map along different pathways. Players fight alongside these creatures to advance the battlefront, destroy enemy towers, and eventually push into the enemy base. Other points of interest are guarded by neutral hostile creatures; capturing and controlling these points grants bonuses to your team. As your team kills computer-controlled creatures and other players, your hero will gain experience and levels to strengthen his or her special abilities. You'll also earn gold which you can use to purchase upgrades and items to customize and improve your hero over the course of a match.

No Release Date Yet for Blizzard All-Stars

PC News | Jan 23, 2013

All signs point to Blizzard actually making the March 12 release date for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm. But what about the new MOBA many thought would ship with the expansion, Blizzard All-Stars? Not so much. Blizzard says it still has "a ton" of work to do on the project, so much so that the devs aren't even sure if All-Stars will launch this year. Read More »

Blizzard, Valve Begin Legal War Over DOTA

PC News | Feb 10, 2012

I'm paraphrasing here, but Blizzard's response when it learned Valve trademarked "DOTA" in August 2010 was, "Not cool." A year-and-a-half later, Blizzard has evidently realized that politely expressing mild disappointment wasn't enough to dissuade Gabe Newell and company. Hence, this news: Blizzard has filed a Notice of Opposition against Valve's DOTA trademark and is seeking full control of all things Defense of the Ancients -- but Valve isn't giving up without a fight. BlizzCon 2011: Blizzard DOTA Impressions

PC Previews | Oct 23, 2011

My experience with DOTA (or Defense of the Ancients) is minimal at best, and so I feared trying out Blizzard DOTA for the first time against a team of experienced action-RTS vets at BlizzCon. Given the original game's reputation, I half expected them to start bashing my feeble attempts at victory. My only hope of redemption came in the form of four longtime friends from World of Warcraft who happened to be at BlizzCon as well, and we all laughed at our chances since only three of us had experience with the game. We were right to do so. We put up what I thought was a valiant fight, but in the end our more experienced foes crushed us on the very stones of our base. And you know what? We loved every minute of it. Read More »

Blizzard DOTA is Free, Except for "Some Costs"

PC News | Oct 23, 2011

Blizzard has confirmed that its upcoming StarCraft II mod, Blizzard DOTA, will have a free-to-play option for players who haven't purchased a full StarCraft II game. However, as with all games that label themselves as "free-to-play", Blizzard DOTA will also have some kind of monetization attached to it. Read More »

BlizzCon 2011: Official Blizzard DOTA Trailer

PC News | Oct 22, 2011

Blizzard has finally unveiled its upcoming StarCraft II map: Blizzard DOTA. As the name suggests, the mod is a Defense of the Ancients-style RTS game, where famous Blizzard characters from StarCraft and World of Warcraft battle it out in arena combat. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, with the trailer describing Blizzard DOTA as "an endless battle with no purpose other than ladder points". Sounds like every multiplayer game ever made!
