Brownies & Muffins Workshop

Last month, Stacey emailed me and told me she wanted to learn cupcakes, muffins, brownies and chocolate. I thought that was rather ambitious to achieve in a day! After much discussion, her friend and her decided to sign up for my chocolate valentine's workshop and a customised workshop-Brownies & Muffins. They attended my chocolate valentine's workshop last week, and today, they are back again for their second workshop. They felt more comfortable after last week's session.

The ladies had fun weighing and creaming their batters. The tasks today seemed less difficult, and more achievable for them even though we didn't use any mixers! I helped to train their biceps! I also baked some blueberry & almond muffins for their refreshment.

These were what they brought home with them after the workshop.

Brownies.

Assorted Muffins- Chocolate chips, Cheese and Orange.

Chocolate Valentine's Workshop

A month ago, I "advertised" on my Chocolate Valentine's Workshop. Initially, I thought I might need to cancel it as school will be starting soon and most parents are more anxious about being at home with the children and spending time with them. Fortunately, I didn't have to cancel as there were two ladies who were interested to attend this workshop.

It is quite disappointing when I have already prepared all my materials for workshops and there were no response. Even an enquiry or two will make me excited. Anyway, today's workshop went very smoothly and well. The participants have not baked before, but they were rather good in their moulded chocolate roses.

During this workshop, they were taught how to bake an Almond Pound Cake, mould chocolate roses & leaves and frost with chocolate ganache. They did all these themselves, which I'm really proud of. I'm sure their family members will be elated when they bring back the cake to share with them. Hope they can re-create this cake during valentine's day!

Parent & Child Brownie Workshop

The day before a workshop, there tend to be quite a lot of preparations to be done. Fortunately, I happened to have quite a lot of leave to clear this December. I can't imagine if I hadn't been on leave on Friday, then I'll be preparing the items like crazy on Friday evening.

I baked some brownies for the participants to try, prepared all the ingredients, equipment before the actual day. There were a total of five children even though three were allowed. :p Well, since it was rather informal, and the "extra" children didn't get another set on their own, I guess it was alright with me. Can't bear to turn the child away, can I?

The children were able to follow the instructions and methods closely. From the way I looked at them, I figured it could be their first time to try baking. But they were rather good though! I was glad the children and the adults had a good time preparing, baking and frosting their brownies. They were rather fast in their frostings! I hope they enjoyed the brownies of their labour! :)

Orange & Almond Pound

I baked an Orange & Almond Pound cake for a colleague who is recuperating at home from cancer. It was really a heart pain to see her like that. Even though we were not very close all this time, my heart went out to her the moment I heard about her case. I was really sad, and I sms her once a while to cheer her up, and give her all the encouragement that I can. I finally found the courage to ask if I can visit her. Even though she looked differently, she is still as pretty as ever. I made an excuse to bake for her, so that I can visit her. She was happy that I visited her, and liked my cake very much. I tell myself, if I have the time again, I will bake for her again, at least to keep her going and make her happy.

This pound cake will be taught for under my Perfect Pound workshop. Sign up for it now!

Roses Decoration Workshops

One way to contantly sharpen your skills is to conduct a workshops so that you ensure that you don't forget the techniques. That was what I did lately. So far, I've had two Roses Decoration Workshops conducted at the comfort of my place. I had the youngest participant at 18, and a more senior lady who is a retiree. How nice it was to know them.

What the participants learned during the three hours workshop was to pipe roses using royal icing. According to the participants, that was the most challenging as skills and precision is required to get a pretty rose. Next up was moulding the roses with fondant. By adding colours to the fondant, you'll get coloured roses. If you have theme cake, then coloured roses can fit well in the decoration. It was rather easy for them to pick up the moulding of the roses. The participants were really good (in both sessions)!

Being someone who loves to entertain, I made some snacks for my participants to go with Rose tea. I thought they might like to have a short break in between to 'digest' what they had learn.

Finally, it was moulding chocolate roses. We made the moulding chocolates from scratch. Not sure if there are ready made ones, but it was easy to start from basic ingredients. The participants got a "taste" of how the moulding chocolate was like after mixing. Lots of kneading were required before the moulding chocolate was ready. It was...quite a challenge. Nonetheless, all the participants had equipped themselves with the know-how and the skills of moulding roses. I'm very happy when I see them leaving my place, happy with what they have learnt, and what they brought back. Most importantly, I am happy that I am able to impart my skills to them.

New Workshops!

Dear Friends,
I've just started embarking on a new journey of...conducting my own workshops. For the past few weeks, I've been busy with trying out new recipes, working out how workshops should be conducted so that people gained the most out of it. I'm very glad that there are people and friends out there who believe that I can teach and share my experience with them.

I had my first Roses Decoration Workshop yesterday. There were two participants in the workshop. I decided to proceed with them, even though my ideal was four. Because the number was small, I was able to provide them with all my attention. The workshop went on smoothly and as planned. I prepared some Rose tea (since the theme was RoSe) and snacks for them. We had fun though, and the setting was casual. I hope to continue with this workshop, to provide more people, be it home bakers, passionate bakers or even students, the knowledge and the skills to mould roses to decorate their cakes and cookies.

I've launch another workshop - Parent & Child Brownie Workshop. This workshop aims to provide the parent & child the knowledge to bake brownies, frost it with chocolate ganache and topped them with thousands & thousands or dragees. This is one good way to keep your children occupied and to learn new baking skills during the school holidays!

One more workshop you can look forward to is The Perfect Pound Workshop. In this workshop, you'll get to learn how to bake good pound cakes that can be served at any occasions. Since Christmas is just round the corner, home-baked pound cake is one good X'mas present you can impress others with!
