A Double Fun Challenge!

>> Friday, October 15, 2010

Friday friday friday! I'm happy you are here but i have a FULL weekend ahead of me! I'm talking makeup jobs for the next 4 days! But i love makeup, so it's ok! ;)

Ok... you know you are singing along... doo doo doo doo doo dooooooo, doo doo doo doo doo dooooooo. :) Our challenge at copic creations this week is to have some fun with the colorless blender. But we have a FAB sponsor, Pink Cat Studio. I have loved Pink Cat for a long time. Their images are simple but ADORABLE! and just so perfectly drawn. And they kinda remind me of the Peanuts. And i have loved the Peanuts for as long as i can remember!

When i got to go thru PCS digi images (they have BOTH rubber and digi!) to chose my image, this one grabbed me instantly! Maybe it's because Halloween is near... maybe it's because A Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin is one of my favorite stories and tv specials as a kit. Maybe it's because i see my own 2 little munchkins in this image. Or maybe it's all of the above! Then suddenly i was like, oh fudgeadoo - how do i play with a colorless blender and this. Well i think i came up with a fun solution!!!!

So first i printed out the digi on xpress-it paper. Ok, i do love this paper, but i really love how easily it runs thru my printer! Especially since Neenah and other thicker cardstocks like to get jammed. Ok, so i printed it out and then colored my sky first. No rhyme or reason why, other than the fact that the blender technique to "lift color" (which isnt what you are doing, you are actually pushing the pigment of the marker further into the paper so that the fibers at the top return to white) works best on this paper when it is "dry". I started with my outside edges and a B99 marker and went around the stamp image as well. Then i worked my way in with a B97, B95 and B93 markers. I wish i had taken the darker further now that i see the card, but i did want to leave the "glow" of the moon.
After the sky was colored, i worked on the images which, were pretty easy since they are white! I did use a C1 and C0 marker to give a bit more shape to the sheets. If you look carefully, i left the top backside bare, and started shading just below that to give the reflection of the moon. It's a subtle thing, but i think it makes it look a little more alive. I did shade a bit on the bottom as well to give bends in the fabric. I went over the sheets with the colorless blender because i didnt want lines, i wanted a fade to the white. So there is use 1 for the colorless blender!
Now time for use 2! I went back in and left dots all over my sky to resemble stars and then a went around and around to create a moon. I will say i think this effect is easier on a more porous paper like neenah, but i had already gone this far and xpress-it paper likes my printer much better. I did let that dry again and went back over it yet again with the blender to get it as light as i could.
Use 3 for the blender was to leave a little bit of reflective light on the sidewalk (which was just drawn over quickly with a C9 copic). If you look carefully, i used the blender to create a few thin lines on the sidewalk surface. THis is just to give a little reflection of the moon. I like gel pens, but sometimes they are just TOO white. A surface will reflect like even if it isnt a shiny surface, so thats another place that the blender pen comes in handy.

Ok, that wraps up challenge 1! Be sure to check out the copic creations blog to get all the deets on how to play, what you'll win and to see the rest of the design teams FABULOUS creations!

And now at the risk of having a terribly long post... i'm going to share the 2nd challenge with you! For those early birds reading this right as it posts... the challenge doesnt actually go up for another 2 hours. It's a darn good thing i own the company and can't fire myself!
The challenge is to make a card that was inspired by a song! Well, when i was creating the above card, i couldnt stop singing the peanut's theme! And then when i went to make my card inspired by a song for the Makeup4theWeekend challenge, i couldnt get the peanut's theme out of my head! So i could have killed 2 birds with one stone, but i figured i should probably use stamps that were actually FROM paper makeup stamps for the slideshow. Granted the sentiment on my above card is a PMS stamp (that is ON SALE RIGHT NOW in the pms store!)
So i made this super quick and easy card...
In case you don't get what i was doing here, i was trying t recreate charlie brown's shirt using a pnch by martha stewart. And the doghouse from Home Matters has always made me think of snoopy and i cant color it anything but red! Man i love the peanuts.

Just to give you an idea of how much i love the peanuts... check out this halloween picture of me as a kid!

Oh no no no, i couldnt want wanted to be lucy, or peppermint patty or even snoopy... but i had to be charlie brown. striped zig zag shirt and all.

Ok, i hope i havent gotten the song stuck in your head all day. I'm sure it will be in mine.
Be sure to play in both of the challenges... there are prizes people! Free stamps to be won! You do NOT want to miss out on that!

COPIC CREATIONS, have fun with your blender!
Paper Makeup Stamps - get inspired by a song
(OH - here's a kicker, when trying to find blue, i found my STACK OF VELLUM that i couldnt find for last week challenge... so i used it anyway, just for you Michelle!)

Have a Charlie Brown Day! But dont get yoru kite stuck up in a tree!
GOOOOOOD GRIEEEEEEF!

Just Us Girls Challenge 46

>> Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Howdy Everyone! Today I'm showing off the card I made for this week's Just Us Girls (JUGS) challenge! The challenge called to make a Wild Wild West Project!

One of the JUGS DT members, Alicia, is organizing a charity rodeo in memory of her son, Ethan. All proceeds will go for neuroblastoma research. Here's the link to the rodeo website. Last year, when Ethan lost his battle with neuroblastoma, Pink Cat Studios designed a few digis to be sold as fundraisers for the Weiman family. I paired both the Cowgirl Lily and Cowboy Billy images together on my card.

After i colored this card... i realized that i should have colored Lily's hair brown since we have a birthday party to go to on saturday for Gabe's little girlfriend from church. Drat! Well, looks like i'm not totally ahead on cardmaking for the week! hahahahaha!
Copics Used: E21, "E23", E25, E27, R12, R14, R17, R29, B91, B95, B97, B99, YR23, Y21

Also when digging thru my buttons yesterday i found this kinda different button. The side you see is actually the backside of the button, but it was much more interesting than the front!

In this photo you can also see the loopie border punch. This was actually an extra practice piece from a MTME project i did awhile back, but it was a perfect fit for the front of my card and the loops reminded me of rope. :D

Dont forget to check out the JUG challenge blog to see some stellar samples from their Design Team! And if you play be sure to link up your creation. There is a prize of a super awesome Gina K set designed by Teresa Momber! Check it out HERE.

Have a wonderful day!!!!

A card for Ethan

>> Tuesday, June 30, 2009

You may have heard of little Ethan Weiman and his tough battle with Neuroblastoma. Pink Cat Studio created a set of adorable gigi images that are available to purchase HERE. All proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish foundation in Illinois in honor of Ethan.

Seriously, these little digis are just adorable. You can choose to get a little cowboy (Ethan), or a little cowgirl (Ava, ethan's sister) for $4 OR you can get them both together plus some sentiments for the low cost of $6! It really is an outstanding deal!

This week the MyTime challenge was a color challenge. I always mean to participate in Lauren's challenges because for one thing, she's my friend, and for another thing, she has been so supportive of my new stamp adventure and for a third thing, they are just fun challenges! But for this or that reason, I dont always do them. I'm going to get better at that! Well, in light of Lauren's generosity with her give away and support of this fantastic cause, I wanted to support it and help too! So i knew i definitely wanted to participate in the challenge this week and made it my number 1 card making priority. :)

Here's my card using the MyTIme color challenge of Brown, Mustard, Green and Terracotta...

My "terracotta" turned out a little more red than i intended, but oh well. :) Here's a closer look...

ALl the edges have been sponged with buttercup ink from Close to my Heart and Tea Dye Ranger Distress Ink (darker patterned paper inked with brushed corduroy distress ink) and the image has been colored with copics.

Pink Cat Challenge and a little sneak peak

>> Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Wow - i have had some crazy past couple of days working on things for my stamp company! I'm so excited!!! I'll get sneak peaks to ya as i get them! (including one for today!)

But let me also say that Pink Cat Studios has an awesome challenge that pretty much gives you a free digi download right from the start! AND the winner will get a free stamp set of their choice! Now THAT is a fun challenge! Read all about it here on their blog!

Here is my card using Lily Fairy from Pink Cat...

The sneak peak i mentioned is the sentiment on the card. This is one of the quote stamps from my stamp line! I'm going to have lots of quotes because i'm pretty much addicted to them. :)

Now a little bit more about my card...
I made this card with my girl, Christi in mind. She's having a bit of a rough time with some health stuff and i wanted to send her a card to let her know i'm thinking about her. I'm actually kinda counting on her resting and not reading this post before the card can make it to her! But if she sees it ahead of time, oh well. It's prettier in person anyway! :)

I used copic markers to color her in and used a cuddlebug embossing folder, some primas, ribbon, brads and bling to finish it off!!!

Thanks for stopping by today!!!!! I'll have some more sneakies for you soon!

Pink Cat Challenge

>> Sunday, December 7, 2008

This was a fun card to make. After my cuh-razy week and weekend, i took today off. I did a "sorta clean" of my kitchen. but i folded no laundry. And let everything else just sit. It was nice. Tomorrow... not going to be fun. But today i did manage to get this card done. It is for the Pink Cat Studios challenge #2 off of the Paper Craft Planet. You can join the Pink Cat Lover's group here and read all about the challenge. It was a tough one, but fun. Challenges should be... well... challenging! :)

It was a 3 part challenge...
part 1 - make a 6x6 card, layout or project
part 2 - Use 3 of 3 different things
part 3 - use one of the color combos supplied

I chose to do a 6x6 card
I used 3 different patterned papers, 3 different stamps and 3 different blings
And i chose the purple and grey color combo....

and here's my card

I used the Lily & Tweet set for both the image and the sentiment. The snowflakes are just a stamp from one of the current Studio G holiday sets.

Enjoy! I'm going back to my craft room!!!

Seeing Double

>> Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Are you seeing double? I am! So much to do this week it's making me go cross eyed! Of course there are tons of contests and giveaways going on and i want to do them all! But here's the next 3 days for me...Thursday: school for jack, dr appt for me, practice song with choir director, pick jack up from school, bake muffins til there is no flour in my house, clean out makeup kit, run any errands that need run before sunday afternoon. Friday: Do makeup for engagement photo, go to wedding location and do hair and makeup there, come home and finish up any muffin making, go out to the Coffee House at my church, help set up (including the million muffins), sing a pretty song, come home, clean out makeup kit to start over. Saturday: drop kiddos off at sitter, go to do the wedding that is going to me MASSIVE, come home and fall over. I think thats is. I'm sure i missed something. Oh, there are things i need to post on my blog as well, but luckily those are all done so i can prepost. :)

Wow - i got off on a tangeant. The title of my blog is Seeing Double. That has a purpose. Haha. Everything i have to do with crafting i'm doubling up. Doubling on challenges... making 2 of every card... double double double.

Here my card for today...

I made him for my NEW Cause of the Month! I thought long and hard about what i wanted the Cause of the Month to be this month. It's such a BIG MONTH! All about giving. There are so many worthy organizations. So then i decided to look to my own life to see if anything sparked a must for this month. And when i thought about what's going on in my own life, i immediately thought of my 2 grandmothers. Now in my life i have had 6 grandparents (my mom's parents remarried long before i was even born, so it's always seemed to me like i had 6). A year ago this October my Grandpa passed away. It was incredibly hard. This was my mom's dad and i felt very close to him. This past september, his wife (so technically my step-grandma) passed away. And this past week both of my surviving grandmothers were in the hospital. Both are doing well now and were able to return to their homes. But still, the idea of them having to move to an assited living situation is a little heartbreaking. The idea of hospice care is unthinkable for me. But then i got to thinking... what about all of those who ARE in nursing homes, hospice care, etc. So i did a search on my computer to find where to send holiday cards to nursing homes and was coming up short until i found a wonderful website called Volunteer Match. I typed in my zip code and just started to look for any thing crafty in my area. Would you know what i found.... a place asking for crafty volunteers for a hospice care program right here in my city! So i emailed them and asked if greeting cards would be appreciated. They LOVED the idea. So this is something i'd like to be ongoing, but for December, i've decided every holiday card i make i will make DOUBLE and then mail one off to a hopsice patient in my area. I love the idea! I encourage others to look out and do the same.

So i knew this is what i wanted to do, but it still didnt give me a card for today other than a holiday card. So i went over to Paper Craft Planet to see what they had going on. If you dont know about their 12 days of giveaways you really need to check it out here. The challenge for today is to use birds. Any bird really. or even eggs! But i decided to go with the cutest little bird i know... QT Hooty from Pink Cat Studio. Isnt he Cah-UTE! Love him. I've been dying to inkie up the hooooliday guy for months but wasnt making holiday cards yet. Well, it's december and now i'm wishing i had been making holiday cards back in July when i wanted to use him. haha. isnt that the way it always goes! I used patterened paper from basic Grey and colored my little birdies with copic markers.

Now i'm going to triple whammy this card and submit it to Pink Cat Studio for their design team call! If you were thinking of entering yourself you should know that they needed to move up the deadline to December 10th. So what are you waiting for?!

A Card for Jaina

>> Saturday, August 30, 2008

Jaina - was Jack's first girlfriend. He then moved on to Lauren. We we still like Jaina an awful lot. haha.

In any case - jaina turns 2 today! We are on the way out the door to her birthday party, but i wanted to put this card up first. (i actually made the card last night).

I had a lot of fun making a 2 year old little girl's birthday card. I dont get to do a lot of little girlie things.

I used a Lily image from the image rak board on splitcoast. She is from Pink Cat Studio I'm in love with their billy stamps! Billy reminds me so much of Jack! So i was thrilled to finally get to use a Lily image! She is colored, of course, with my beloved Copics (which i got 4 more of in the mail yesterday! WOOT!). I also got some atyou spica pens in the mail and though you cant see them much on the card, Lily is just covered in sparkles!

The paper - well i couldnt even begin to tell you where any of it came from! It's ALL from the scrap bin. :) I love the scrap bin. But this paper is from the BOTTOM of the scrap bin so i really have no idea what company it's from. hehe. I do know that the brads are Paper Studio (gotta love when those are half price at Hobby Lobby) and the chipbaord buckle is from the target dollar spot! I was truly thrifty when i made this card. hehe.

Ok, off to the party now! I just got a just rite stamp yesterday from eleanor's so maybe if i'm lucky i'll get to work on a couple of projects for the just rite challenges later today! :)

Oh Billy!

>> Monday, June 9, 2008

Ok, i think only my dearest friend in the world Andrea would understand by subject title. Or get why i laughed hysterically as i typed it. :)

Today i have a card i created for a swap in a local group. It's another stamp from the Billy set by pink cat studio. My object for the swap was to create a birthday card for boys. I used Real Red, So Saffron, and Blue Brocade (all SU) for the paper and copics for the coloring. The star stamps is a wheel by SU.
I also used my cuddle bug with the spots and dots folder to add a little texture. :)

My new set from Pink Cat Studios came in the mail yesterday! I was so excited i just had to use it right away! I made a little birthday card for a friend of mine (well, technically it's for her 3 year old son, but really i'm sure he could care less). The set name is Billy and there are all kinds of cute get ups that Billy is in.
Billy is colored in with copic markers and i just used some scraps of DCWV cardstock i had finished off with some brads and ribbon from my stash.
