Smeared and Smudged Member Hop

Each month the Smeared and Smudged forum does a member hop.  I participate whenever I am able to work it in and was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad to be able to do so for July.  This month the theme was to Alter Something and to follow the S&S rule to stamp something, somewhere, someplace.  I decided to alter a canvas.

I will admit that I have never worked on a canvas before and this was a bit of an experiment when it began.  However, I will also tell you it is not going to be the LAST time I work on a canvas.  This was a complete joy to create.
I began by using a stencil and some Glimmermist in purple and black to create the design on the canvas.  I then stamped the head of Rosie from the Sweet Meets Sassy 2 Collection at SCACD because she made me think most of me, and colored it with markers.  Since purple is my favorite color, you can see the theme I am sure.  The dress was cut free hand, and took several reworks and the paper is Kaisercraft Utopia.  I tore the bottom edge and then stamped the swirls on the dress and flower using some Prima stamps.   The butterfly is a Maya Road chipboard covered in some scrap paper and stamped again with the Prima stamps.  I hand wrote the words and the rubons on the side are an unknown source AKA 'my stash'.

I think I am going to create a series of these canvases that have the words I need to remember.  Then I will periodically change out which on is on display.  I have found that sometimes I don't actually see things that are in front of me all the time, but periodic reminders are powerful.

I hope you take the time to hop around to some of the other member blogs to see what they have created.  This is a circular hop so please visit in any order.  We are from all over the globe so may post at different times.  Please let them all some love :)

Skull Appreciation Day! - with a BLOG HOP!

WELCOME!  I am Edgar Allen Crow and I am so happy you have stopped by for Skull Appreciation Day.  This all started on a blog called Skull A Day which Alex follows.  They announced June 4 to be Skull Appreciation Day.  Of course those silly people at the Smeared and Smudged forum Alex hangs out with jumped on it.  Any excuse for a Blog Hop on the dark side......

Anyway- there are prizes to be won as part of this hop as well.  If you start at the beginning at Terra's Blog you can see how YOU can win.  If you have already been there, then, hopefully, you are coming from Jane's blog and that you left her some love.  Now, on to what Alex created for you today.

It doesn't look it, but this project took her a long time to create.  Only because her mojo went on vacation and she had to push through.  However, once she started cutting the skulls and just getting busy, a smile appeared on her face and there was no stopping her.  In fact, she has been busy creating ever since.

Not the new creations, but since it IS skull appreciation day, I couldn't resist pulling out a couple of my personal favorites Alex has created.  Here are a couple of oldies but goodies.

I know this is a bit off track and there is a LOT to see today, but I simply MUST share with you this product that Alex used on her card.  It is called Goosebumps

Here is how it works, you spray it on something - in this case it was white paper, but it says it will work on all sorts of surfaces- and let it dry.  It dries clear.  She then grabbed some distress inks and sponges and added the color.  This is how Alex created the background and the very cool effect on the 'head skull'.  Here are some closeups so you can see it better.

Needless to say, Alex is now running around looking for more things to spray!!! Don't worry- after the 'glitter incident' I am staying out of her way!!!

Now- run along to the next stop on the hop, Judi's blog, and leave her some love while you are there.  If you get lost along the way, I have posted the entire list at the end of this post!

Happy Skull Appreciation Day!
Edgar

Smeared and Smudged April Member Hop

Hello my lovelies!  I am so excited that Alex has allowed me to visit with you again today!  Things here have been a bit touch and go for me due to a recent addition to the family.  At the moment, as you can see, Tinker and I seem to have a truce in place.  It might take me just a bit longer to get her pecked into submission won over.

In the meantime, distance seems to be a good thing...  Now, on the creating that has been happening around here.  The challenge for the hop this month for Smeared and Smudged forum members is to use metal, and brads and eyelets don't count.  Alex decided to use foil stickers and gold metalic paint.  I think she is stretching things brilliant.

Here is a fabulous tag with a rather regal and somewhat Egyptian looking raven, check out the eye.  The tag was decorated with the Glimmer Mist that had accumulated on a screen and then smooshed onto this particular tag- waste not, want not. (even though the google eyes got thrown away!)  The words "i'm watching you" are from the Li'l Grumpies stamp set at Smeared Ink.  That amazing crown is some Maya Road Chipboard painted with a gold paint pen.

It has been lovely visiting with you again.  Perhaps we can talk Alex into letting me out a bit more often.  I have been feeling a bit, what's the word.... caged, ROFLOL!!!

Be certain to check out all the fabulous creations from the other members of Smeared and Smudged hopping this month.

To my roots- a little Steampunk

I was thinking it had been a bit since I did something a bit more 'out there' and was missing it. I found a couple of different challenges that got my brain going and then spent some time browsing Deviant Art and VIOLA! I ended up with this!

This image is by
© Christa Jansen van Vuuren ~ All Rights Reserved

I colored it up with my grey Prismacolor markers and my gold Spica Glitter pen.  The background paper is 7 Gypsies- Paddington which is a fabulous black and white collection. I cut the 'gears' from gold foil paper .  I had an absolute blast creating this and hope you enjoy it as well.

Challenges:
Smeared & Smudged - Rock N Rolla Inspiration Challenge
Burtonesque Dolls - Make it Burton - I always think of Edward Scissorhands as the original Steampunk.

Smeared and Smudged Book It Challenge

The Smeared and Smudged forum has several challenges available to participate in each month.  This month I got to create one of them!  I decided that the challenge would be to create a book.  Any kind of book, accordion fold, star, bound, ANYTHING!  The only rule is that it must have stamping included someplace.

For my book I decided to make one to hold all of my 'to do' items that never seem to make the daily to do list.  Things like when I tell someone I will send them the pack of rub ons I'll never use, or when I want to drop someone a note because I haven't talked to them in a while, or even when I need to make an appt. to have 'the girls' checked.  Those are the things that tend to slip through the cracks, but to me they are often the things that are most important.

Here is what I ended up with!

I used the Grumpie with the cape (because sometimes I think I am superwoman and can do it all) from the Creepy Li'l Grumpies set by Smeared Ink and the word stamps "suck it up" and "so excuses" from the original Li'l Grumpies set.  Purple is my favorite color so I used my purple inks.
I used some glimmer mists on the lace, but it didn't take quite like I had hoped so I also grabbed the stickles and added some to the flower parts of the lace.
It is filled with 4x6 index cards.  I couldn't find unlined so I put the lined ones in backwards because I prefer to write on unlined surfaces for things like this (so no, the picture is not upside down). It is bound with binder rings and I used cardboard for the cover.  I know it isn't fancy, but actually, that is what I like about it.  It is something I can USE and not worry about ruining it.

I also would love for you to check out the Li'l Book of Creepies made by Tori.  It is an accordion book and I loooooooooooooove it!

I hope you will join us for the challenge this month.  I am really looking forward to the variety of things people make and I know I will be creating more this month as well.

31 Days of Halloween - Day 27

Hello! I get to bring you another fabulous tag that Alex did up. This one has a background created by stamping dye ink pads onto a craft mat, spritzing with water and then smooshing (technical term here) the tag on top to pick up the ink.  I am a bit concerned that one day she is going to spritz or smoosh me by accident, so I make certain my observational hovering is just out of reach.

Alex used a portion of a ROCKIN' stamp from Smeared Ink's Holy City set as well as that gorgeous flying raven from the same set.  The sentiment is from Mad Hatter stamps and reads "All Journeys have Secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware".

Alex then distressed the edge with more purple ink to finish everything off.  Since purple is her favorite color, I know that made her happy.  I'm currently a bit partial to pink myself, but more on THAT at another time.

Challenges:
Macabre Monday #062 - Smudged & Smeared
Gingersnap Creations #GC73 - Gothic Elements
C.R.A.F.T. #73 - Spooky
Paper Playtime #22 - Halloween
Art on the Darkside #65 - Halloween

See you tomorrow!

Happy Halloween!

31 Days of Halloween - Day 15

Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly.....

Personally I appreciate when a spider catches a fly.  It lets me have a smorgasbord of sorts.  I can have both spider and fly for my meal at one stop.  Yummy!
The card today has the image Little Witchy from Fairy Knoll and she is part of their Halloween collection.  Alex loved this image and had the paper picked out and everything all colored up last weekend.  Then it just sat...and sat...and sat.

Finally Alex realized that the challenge was on Friday and it was Thursday afternoon and she proceeded to FREAK OUT!.  Yep, full on panic set in.  After I calmed her down and reminded her she had a plan and that it included using the sketch from Smudged and Smeared Very Sketchy challenge she calmed down and went to work.

As usual she messed up the sketch a bit, but this time it was on purpose, not because she remembered incorrectly.  Doesn't that spider look yummy?   Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  Excuse me please, I am getting a bit hungry and believe it is time for a snack.  See you tomorrow.

Challenges:
Fairy Knoll Challenge #20 - Halloween
Smudged & Smeared - Very Sketchy Oct. Sketch

Smeared and Smudged BLOG Hop

Smeared and Smudged is a forum started by this AMAZING person Terra. It is an absolutely wonderful place filled with the nicest people and such talent. Everyone is encouraging of each other. I just love it! It is also a great place for me to show off a bit of the more macabre stuff I make/like and have people get it!

Last time we had a member blog hop it was a lot of fun so we are doing it again!! I invite you to come join us!

I decided it was time for me to make a Zombie Escape Manual. I made one of these for my son, but everyone must have their own. Remember, the number one rule for escaping the Zombie Attack- run faster than the person you are with!

Front Cover - with requisite bloody finger prints

Back cover with the image from the Smeared Ink set
just as a reminder of what really needs to get done (and who is best able to do so).

Inside pages with escape routes, anatomy reminders,
and lots of places to make notes and plans.

I hope you have enjoyed my creation for today's hop and be certain to check out what everyone else has created. Here is the list of participants. After you visit them all- it is your turn to go CREATE SOMETHING!

Smeared & Smudged First Ever Blog Hop!!!

We are having a blog hop of all the members who wanted to participate and I invite you to come join us!

For this hop I wanted to make something extra special! I decided it was time again to make some Magic Boxes. These are only 1 1/2 inches square and just under 3 inches tall. This time, instead of fairies or flowers I made one with

SPIDERS!!!

Now- I hope you get a chance to see what everyone else has created just for this hop and for you to see. I also really hope that you will join us at Smeared and Smudged for some FUN!!!

Rising Flame

This week my new Sweet Pea Stamps stamps arrived and the first one I HAD to play with was Rising Flame. She is one of my very, very favorite ones. I decided to create a card to meet a couple of different challenges. First is the sketch challenge on Smudged and Smeared. Also the use a black background at Tellen's Place.
