An American Hero! for JUGS

I have two posts today - this one for JUGS and another one for My Time Made Easy - please be sure to check them both :-)

It's a Just Us Girls Saturday sketch challenge today and we have a fabulous sponsor this week... Want2Scrap! Be sure to visit the W2S blog - our very own Dana (our JUGS hostess this week) has a fabulous tutorial up there about creating 3D peonies!

You can find them on Facebook too! Click the icon to go there...

Here's the sketch this week

Want2Scrap generously supplied each of us with a few goodies :-) With such a WIDE VARIETY of accessories I had a hard decision but one item that I chose was this laser cut title called American Hero.
I shared on my blog about my son's best friend Ian returning from Afghanistan on THIS POST and since then I knew I wanted to do some sort of scrapbook page as a tribute to Ian. This was the perfect opportunity!

Here's my scrapbook page - using as much of the JUGS sketch as I could work in. It's square instead of rectangle and I will put it in one of the 12x12 frames when I get out to Michael's to buy aother one.

I added lots of baby bling pearls (from Want2Scrap) as accents around the page. They are a fun, tiny size - I have both red and blue ones on my page. Honor - Courage - Commitment are the Core Values of the Marine Corp so I worked those into my layout. I printed these on my computer.

Hope you will play along with us this week. Want2Scrap is offering up a $25.00 gift certificate (and that will buy you a LOT of bling) to one lucky winner this week so get sketchy and post your creations on the JUGS site.

Our Featured Designer for Just Us Girls this month is Lori Kalus - be sure to stop over and leave her a warm JUGS welcome.

JUGS 28 - Scrapbook Challenge!!

Yes girls - it's a Scrapbook Challenge this week as the technique challenge from Just Us Girls from our very creative hostess, Alicia. NOW - before you turn away - keep in mind - you can make a small 8x8 page or you can frame your page or you can create some wall art... but you CAN do it! I have not scrapbooked for several years now but, that's why these are called challenges and I'm SO glad I did. I slipped out to Michaels and found a very cool 12x12 FRAME made just for scrapbook pages. So - first off - here's the layout for you.

And here's my project for this week's challenge.

I decided it would be fun to make a framed page of a couple of highlights from our trip to Germany and Austria over Christmas this past December. It took me a while to get back into the "mode" but I love how it turned out - it will go in my office at work - my office is FILLED with family photos and such and this will be a fun way to keep the memories fresh while others get to see some of our trip as well. I did add a couple of extra photos and did not use the bow - my layout just didn't lend itself to a bow and I would have had a hard time getting it in the frame. It's hard to see in the photo but this is already framed and ready to go - the frame is a simply black edge and a front loading piece of glass that you pop out - insert page - replace glass. I love it.

I made the title by inking up my Headline Alphabet from SU and cutting out each letter with labels 8 nestie. Sponged the edges before I removed it from the die. This was a great trip and I love being able to showcase a small memory from that time.

If you are interested, this is the insert from the frame - I think I'll be buying more of these!

Now - pop over to the rest of the DT then slip over to the Just Us Girls site and show us what YOU can do! I'd love to see your work this week.

Have a great weekend - I'm taking my son to Vegas for his 21st BD so we're pretty excited about that.  (My DH hates Vegas so he's opting out this time LOL) We're also going to see David Copperfield since my son has loved magic since he was about 10.  I'll be around to view your projects when I get home.
