Inspirational Jewelry
Janet olson - ChickieGirlCreations creates beautiful pendants using so many techniques and materials! polymer clay, acrylic paints, inks, pens, sealers, textures, distress and patterns. Her mix media jewelry are all about color, and texture. She mentions she is influenced by nature, and as a result lean toward rustic and distressed designs. Wild Stone Beads Tutorial
"pink_lizzard" Julia is sharing with us her "wild stone" beads class. She says this effect was a happy accident. It all started as a watercolor technique project placed on a paper for a while, and after 2 weeks(!) on the paper she ended up with zero plasticizer and a very dry pile of clay. Then, turned it into beads.
It reminds me of those old Terrazzo floor tiles.

Tom's Clock Adventures
I came across "The Brooding Tom's" clock video on YouTube and dug inside a little more. The artist (tom?) is sharing his detailed experiments on sculpturing and creating large pieces, letting us know what worked and what went wrong in each project.
In the clock video series he is going through all the details for creating the piece until completion.
Fascinating work! Don't miss his recent alien videos.

I am continuing my CFCF samples - bags and beads this week, It is been a while since I did production work, and returning to that busy and meditating work (such as painting, shaping, gluing pins and zippers) is quite relaxing (and I am not including sanding into the "relaxing" category...)
Feels great to repeat the same project in different shapes, colors and designs, challenge to the mind and hands. I really enjoy it.

"Hamburger" Bag, I really liked it's shape!

Advanced Pendant Polymer Clay Tutorial
Another cool tutorial posted in the russian forum by Bobrotermit, photos only but you will see that it requires a lot of carving, back-filling and drilling to remove the un-wanted polymer clay.
A bit advanced but a challenge to understand how it is done using no text at all.

Polymeri Online 2.11.11 | Ghost Shift Fish, Kyoto Geikos mix media, Fimo tutorials & Autumn bracelet

I stumbled upon Sue Corrie's polymer clay and copper designs and was enchanted! This wonderful fish done with both materials is a refreshing combination and the possibilities are endless. When she thought to give up on being a full time artist she fell in love with polymer clay. Her projects are often completed in the moonlight hours when the family is sleeping- the Ghost Shift. She says ‘Dr Who’ fans know that the Ghost Shift was, I'm sure my son does!

Sharon House from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada loves to clay, as a mixed media artist she entered into Fine Arts Shows and lately have had accepted into a local gallery. Among her many talents she is also a story teller, not just for kids, for grown ups as well! It took her a while to find her passion with clay and few years into it, she is starting to figure that out. Much to her surprise, it’s not caning but more sculpture and what she would consider “practical stuff”.

You're invited to take a look at her cool "toothpick bead tool" - wonderful to bake or to dry your beads after varnish!
and one of her polymer pieces -

If you haven't yet visited in STAEDTLER fimo Creative tips page with cool tutorials and colorful ideas - You are welcome!

"Autumn in Scottish Mountains" bracelet by Czech Katerina Tumova has wonderful pattern inside. She has made an additional brooch with the same technique, almost looks like wooden design.

Stay tuned - Tomorrow is the big day - 3 "events"!! :)
1st, I will announce the 3 winners of "The Polymer Arts" Magazine, if you haven't yet entered - it's your last chance today.
2nd, I'm celebrating my 40's!! OMG, I don't feel 40!
3rd A short vacation in Italy for my birthday with DH, I'm sure it's going to be wonderful!

see ya!

Polymeri Online 3.5.11

Georgie Galante from NY is a mixed media artist, working in polymer clay and metal clays, recycled parts. Her designs made me take a 2nd and a 3rd look, the mix of materials sometimes leaves me wondering, what is what, hard to tell the differences :)

Thanks god I am not gaining weight every time I see miniature sweets made of polymer clay, Cindy Teh from Singapore is a very talented artist creating beautiful items you'd want to take a bite from. Cakes, ice-creams, vegetables - Yummy!

Here is another example of the wonderful options with polymer clay by Rachel Grieg, a stamped book, polymer clay cover, she added vintage pages together with some watercolour papers inside and bound it all with silk ribbon.

Lostinwonderar's Etsy store has "Quirky home accessories" in it as she calls them. She creates sugar skulls. I had no idea what they are until i read in her listing - Sugar Skulls are typically made of compressed sugar with icing decoration and other embellishments. They're made for the holiday of Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos). Her sugar skulls are made of polymer clay. It can grace a shelf, decorate a cabinet, or sit charmingly in a potted plant.
She has been making and selling her crafts since she was about 12 years old, dreaming of having her own shop where she could sell her art.

Natalya is an artist from Russia, her cute stapler caught my eyes - so cute!
Her flickr site and blog is filled with beautiful jewelry as well - pendants, bracelets and more - take a look.

Discussing Christi Friesen's book - "polymer clay and mix media - together at last"

Lisa clarke had an interesting post in her polka dot cottage few weeks ago, she was discussing book covers, the book discussed was Christi Friesen's book - "polymer clay and mix media - together at last".
Since i am also a graphic designer, it's the first think i am looking at, and as a book lover i wanted to say some words about the issue.
Lisa offered this book as a gift to one of the commenters - and yay! :) i won "the lottory" and got the book yesterday by mail (thank you so much lisa)

I had the whole day looking and reading Christi's book, with her special humor and such a unique art talent. i loved the book, it is full of projects (exacly my kind of book), they are presented with beautiful photos and Christi's special (and clear) way of writting and cute funny drawings.

I do think that her beautiful pieces should be presented more colorfully on this book cover, similar to her other books. There are so many gorgous photos in there, choosing different colors would make this book look much more appealing & "tailored" to it's content - look like a fancy dress. i loved her other book designs - they are so "exactly her".

It was important to me to share my joy from her book and thank her for sharing her art & beauty with us. I hope in my heart that Christi is not disappointed from this bit of critics, i hate doing that, i don't want to make her beautiful face sad.

This is an important issue, and i must say i am not experienced with working along with publishers, do artists allowed to say their opinion about their own book design? or is it a choice of the editor? i don't know.

if you are a Christi Friesen's fan (and i am) buy it with confident, she is the best!

I have to tell you what i saw in one of our Israeli forums, there was a lady, says that in the summer times she sees lot's of cockroaches going around in the pipe system (you know, of the sewage, Yukks!!), well, she had enough with them and decided to make something about it. she took FIMO polymer clay and made a "custom made sink plug" to prevent them from going up in the pipes! isn't that an idea? well, don't consider it a project but now i understand that there is nothing that can't be done from this material, now even the roaches will enjoy their colorful plug!!

Pete Goldlust

For several years, his work has explored a sculptural landscape where human urges (libidinous, predatory and monstrous) are acted out by half-recognizable, otherworldly surrogate creatures. The work reflects his interest in mutated, hybrid forms, and the disjunctive psychological states that they represent.
