Plum creme
Paris is a shiny plum creme.
Application was good, swatches are 2 coats, no top coat.
So back in 2010 Nails Inc teamed up with Boots (drugstore) and Diet Coke to offer a free bottle of specially branded Nails Inc polishes when you bought 2 bottles of Diet Coke.
I'm not a coke drinker but of course I still bought the coke and donated the bottles to pals - anything for free polish eh?!
There were 4 shades available in 2010, according to my spreadsheet I might be one missing from the following collection - looks like I have all the 2010 shades but only 3 of the colours from 2011 when they ran the promotion again with different shades.

PostQuam - Purple
Plum creme
You can tell it's feeling autumnal here in the UK, my second plum polish in a row!
This one from Spanish brand, PostQuam. The polishes are pretty good but I really don't like the labels, the shiny foil printing makes them look cheap.
But onto the polish itself, this one is helpfully called Purple, although to me it's more of a plum, leaning pink rather than blue. Slightly darker than yesterdays SuperDry but also super shiny.
Swatches are 2 coats, no top coat. Unfortunately this one was a bit gloopy to apply but seems to have evened out in the pics.

SuperDry - Tom Thumb
Plum creme
Another winner from SuperDry.
This one is Tom Thumb, a mid to light pink toned plum creme.
Not a unique colour by any stretch but it's well executed, easy to apply and nicely shiny.
Application was good, as all the SuperDry polishes I've tried have been, this one is two coats, no top coat.

Deborah Milano - 87
Bright purple shimmer
Now you all know I'm a taupe lover but boy do I love an intense purple shimmer too, one of my all time favourite polishes is a L'Oreal Jet Set in a similar colour - 225.
So here's a similar shade from Deborah Milano, 87.
Swatches shown are two coats, no top coat, but looking at the full sun pics I probably needed a third coat, I can see a little thinness around the cuticle.
Deborah Milano is Italy's No1 Makeup brand and is now available in the UK! The Pret à Porter polishes are available for £3.50

Golden Rose - Rich Color 34
Rich burgundy shimmer
Golden Rose Rich Color in 34 is a rich, shimmering plum/burgundy.
This was almost a one-coat wonder for me and the polish is marketed as a one-coat product, but these swatches are 2 coats for full depth of colour.
And the one-step maxi brush wasn't too bad at all. I think I'm realising that not all wide or maxi brushes are terrible for me - although there is still a special place in hell for the MeMeMe maxi wide brushes!

Vintage Valentines - L'Oreal Shock Proof - Plum Mystique 700
Plum pearl
Today's valentine comes from the early years of this century, by that I mean 2002ish!
The oddly named L'Oreal Shock Proof range (why does your polish need to be shock proof?) is also Extreme Wear. It makes it sound like, in a post apocalyptic world, all that will be left are cockroaches sporting natty coats of L'Oreal polish!
Anyhow, no idea where this one came from, may have been part of a random eBay bundle?
Plum Mystique is a pretty, slightly blackened plum pearl/shimmer.
Application was good, I know some folk don't like the long narrow brush on these but it works fine on my tiny nails. And no thinner required.
Swatches are 2 coats, no top coat.
Anyone else got any old L'Oreals? Although they're not particularly collectable, they were produced in relatively large quantities across the world so seem to still be available from ebay and car-boot sales.

Despite being so old it's Toulene and Formaldehyde free - and looks like it might be a Canadian edition

Vintage Valentines - Rimmel 60 Seconds Extreme - Zeitgeist 878
Stunning plum/green duochrome
Rimmel were probably the first nail polish brand I was aware of. Back in the 70's they marketed themselves through double page ads in women's weeklies like Woman and Woman's Own. Spread across two pages they would showcase each shade and variant of a particular product, foundation & blusher, eye products and nail polish. The nail polish ad consisted of a grid of close to 100 close-ups of stylised nails each painted with a different Rimmel shade, like some kind of periodic table of nail polish!
I haven't been able to find the exact ad I remember but this one is close...
My sister and I would pore over the ads, each choosing our favourites in turn - if only we'd had the money as pre-teens to buy any of them!
In the early 80's I finally had money (courtesy of a job delivering local free papers) and would excitedly head to Woolworths in Canterbury to peruse the selection in person.
Of course back then they were mostly shades of red, pink and pinky nude with the odd purple, blue or green shade to add excitement. And I was more interested in the pearls and frosts than boring cremes, how times change!
Fast forward to the 90's and Rimmel is no longer one of a small number of players with the market sewn up, all kinds of new drugstore brands have come along, and everyone has to up their game. So, perhaps influenced by the extreme colours and formulations of people like Urban Decay, Hard Candy and Rimmel's drugstore rivals Revlon and their Streetwear range, Rimmel put out all sorts of amazing colours under their 60 seconds and Lasting Colour ranges.
Here is one of the standout shades from that time, Zeitgeist, a fantastic name for an amazing polish.
Zeitgeist is a strong plum/green duochrome. The plum is warm, pinkish and somewhat muted, the green is yellow toned, almost olive.
In artificial light it's plum with a hint of green but in sunlight it really comes alive. The duochrome flip is so strong you can get both colours showing on even moderate length nails.
Swatches shown are 2 coats.
Sadly, as you can see, I have a duff bottle and all of the white overlay printing has come loose and moved around and I've had to put sticky tape over the bottle to try and preserve what's left. After I'd taken these pictures I found another bottle of Zeitgeist in my stash, label still intact.
Application on this one was a bit odd but that may have been down to the many drops of thinner I'd had to add. From my limited research it seems a number of the 8xx series Rimmels were standout shades, including Climax, Zenith, Mania (coming up) and Fanatic. And what awesome names.

Avon Nailwear Pro - Night Violet
Purple/plum with gold shimmer
The nights are drawing in and the heating is on, it's time to go vampy!
Night Violet (love that name) is a deep purple/plum with a swirly fine gold shimmer running through it.
Unusually for a deep shimmer this was a little streaky - so swatches shown are 3 coats. This is definitely one I had pegged at 2 coats!
These are old swatches and I have a rather random collection of nail lengths here!

Nailgirls Purple #2 - Irredescent Purple
Plum/purple shimmer
Described by the brand as "The ultimate in Burlesque, a high shine, silver irredescent (sic) purple nail varnish. Not really one for the shrinking violet."
Purple #2 (I can't bring myself to misspell iridescent again) is a pretty but not very unique purple/plum with a silvery shimmer.
Swatch shown is 2 coats with no top coat and application was good

Alessandro - 215 Lucky Violet
Plum/pink shimmer
Alessandro 215, which I'm pretty sure is called Lucky Violet is a pinky purple with fine pink shimmer
Swatch shown is 2 coats with no top coat
I like this, it's a pretty purple and I like that the shimmer is nicely visible.

W7 - Metalllic Venus
Purple/plum shimmer
Venus is another of the W7 Metallics but this time there's no foil in sight. There is still a hint of duochrome, though not massively visible in my pics I'm afraid.
Venus is a shimmery purple/plum colour with a darker plum and brown/copper duochrome that's much more visible in the bottle.
Application was good, swatches shown are 2 coats, no top coat.
They might not be super innovative colours but I do think W7 make some great polishes for their price point.

W7 - Metallic Mercury
Plum foily duochrome
Metallic Mercury is one of a number of W7 polishes I picked up in TK Maxx last year for a bargain price. TK Maxx seemed to get a lot more nail polish in last year, long may it continue!
Metallic Mercury is a warm blackened plum foil with a hint of greeny gold duochrome. The duochrome isn't super obvious though.
Nice and opaque, swatch shown is 2 coats with no top coat. Application was good.
IIRC this is similar but not a total dupe to one of the Orly FX collection.

Top Shop - Daredevil
Plum toned purple with fine pinky gold shimmer
I had another nail break over the weekend, just as my nails were getting long enough to swatch with - grrgghh.
But, worry not, I still have a huge stash of previous swatch pics to share...!
Daredevil is another great TopShop polish - a plum shimmer with a fine, almost foily, shimmer in a pinky gold colour.
The shimmer is subtle but still visible in normal light.
Swatch is 2 coats with no top coat
