Pixi - Sexsea

Bright coral creme

Oh dear, only one picture of this, but that's probably for the best as it was a nightmare.

This was a 'new' brand compulsion (ie a brand I didn't have) -  and it cost a totally unworth-it £5 from ASOS back in 2009.

Sexsea (I should've known from that name!) is a bright coral creme

It was horrible to apply, the brush is ok, longish and neat but it kept dropping big blobs on my nail no matter how well I wiped.

And this is 3 coats and I still have VNL.

The bottle is tall and slim and at only 7ml barely bigger than a mini.

Just horrid.  Avoid in the unlikely event you come across this.  From a quick google it seems Pixi is now sold in Marks & Spencer and direct from Pixi Beauty but the polish names are different so hopefully the formula is too!

Paul & Joe 30 aka Soleil

Tangerine jelly with scattered gold glitter

I'm back!  The new router is fab but unfortunately didn't work with the old network patch panel, so we have a temporary panel in place designed for a rack in a server room.  What's the problem with that? It has a built in fan that sounds like a small hovercraft!

So onto the polish....

Oh boy, this was a total fail for me.

I didn't have any Paul & Joe in my collection so picked up a threesome in the ASOS sale.  I'd read good things about the polish, the bottles are pretty and unique and it was, if not a bargain, then cheaper than usual.

Soleil is a tangerine jelly, emphasis on the jelly, with scattered gold glitter

I had a complete mare with this polish, it was very runny and very sheer.

This swatch is 4 coats and I still have VVNL!

This one has gone straight into the Blog Sale box in the unlikely event anyone else will want it!

Stay tuned this week to see if the rest of the trio were any better...

ASOS Paint Pots by Ciaté II

I mostly bought these because they were cheap - the ASOS sale is a dangerous place to be - but they turned out to be pretty good.

I don't normally talk about the packaging but this was interesting so I thought I'd show you. Although ASOS do sell Paint bottles individually I bought these as duo's and they came in these cool boxes

From the outside it's a striking black box with high impact lettering

then you slide open the box (like a matchbox) to reveal the two polishes nestling in their own compartments inside. Sweet, huh?

So onto the polishes...

First up is Agyness, a blackened puple with pink shimmer

Look how pretty it looks in the bottle

Unfortunately much less so on the nail. The shimmer doesn't really come through at all.

This is 2 coats with no top coat

The second in the set is Pixie (I'm assuming Pixie Geldof). It's a mid green, slightly blue-toned green creme

Again this is 2 coats.

I really liked this one, the colour is unusual and coverage is good.

Overall this is two good polishes, interesting packaging and a great price in the sale.

Models Own

A belated Happy New Year and welcome to all my new readers, thanks to Brooke who featured my little blog in her weekly New Blogs on the Block

So here we are, new year, new start. After a fun and relaxing Christmas break and a killer of a cold that is still flooring me, I'm back with renewed enthusiasm. I'm going to *try* to post more often this year, I won't manage once a day, but 2 or 3 times a week should be possible, right?!

I'm gonna kick off with my Models Own collection

I discovered Models Own last May through a comment on MUA which said they were good for grey cremes and were sold on ASOS . I was going through a creme phase (my first ever) so I checked them out on ASOS and then found their website

It's a funky website and they have an pretty extensive range of colours and some interesting looking glitters. No accurate colour swatches on the site though so it was a bit of a gamble on colours.

I couldn't find any reviews either so wasn't sure what I'd be getting, finish wise. I found a discount code on the web so ended up getting 9 polishes for less than £34 which seemed like a bargain - if they were any good!

First up is Slate Green, a slightly dusky mid green creme

This is 2 coats IIRC. Application was pretty good and the colour is unique for my collection although not quite as dusky as I'd like.

Models Own is a UK brand of makeup, you can buy products from their site (no international shipping I'm afraid), ASOS (who do offer intl shipping I believe) and in store at some branches of River Island.

ASOS Paint Pots by Ciaté

I spotted these new polishes while browsing on ASOS (always a dangerous activity!) I've got quite a selection of the original Ciaté paint pots so of course I couldn't resist trying one of these

I picked Mary-Kate, a black creme with gold shimmer (and a touch of blue/pink shimmer too)

Application was good but this is one of those polishes that eats topcoat! This is 2 coats of polish and 3 coats of Seche Vite and it's still not madly glossy!

I like the fact that they'e carried the sweet bottle bow across to this line too.

Click the pic for a bigger version to see the shimmer.

Overall I really liked this polish.

Anyone else tried any of these?
