China Glaze Love's A Beach

Summer is the season of neon.  On tips.  On toes.  On tweens in every mall causing bad 80's flashbacks for those of us old enough to remember those bad decisions the first time around.  China Glaze brought us their annual Summer Neons collection for Summer 2012.
First up is Love's A Beach.

Love's A Beach is a bright pink with shimmer.  The shimmer is a nice touch that is uncommon in a neon and gives the polish a pearl-like finish.  Neon polishes are bright on their own, but pop even more over a white base.  I used Finger Paints base coat, 2 coats of Love's A Beach- over 2 coats of WnW White Creme on my ring and index fingers, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat on my middle and index fingers.  The formula was good and application was smooth.  Like all neons this one dries matte, well really more satin because of the shimmer, but top coat will give you a nice shiny finish.  The shimmer is subtle, but still noticeable even without top coat.

Can you see the difference with the white base?  As always please click to enlarge the pictures for better detail.  You know I'm not a big pink person, but this might make an appearance on my toes before the summer ends.

Milani Rad Purple

It's officially summer.  And trust me it's felt it around here.  But you know what that means right?  Time to break out the neons.  No time like summertime to have eye searingly bright nails.
So to celebrate the beginning of summer I'm sharing with you a purple, what else really?, neon from Milani called Rad Purple.

Now don't let the bottle fool you, that is not the color of the polish.  It's just a colored bottle.  The actual polish is more of a plummy red purple.  Like all neons, Rad Purple dries to a matte finish.  This can of course be changed with a top coat if you'd like.  I've left it matte for these photos.
Normally I don't show you guys my right hand, for a couple reasons.  One I'm right handed so application is usually not as pretty on that hand and because taking pictures with my left hand is just really awkward.  But oddly enough, my right hand turned out better than my left with this polish so I'm going to show you both.  Please ignore the peeling skin on my right hand and sad cuticles.  That hand gets a lot of abuse at work.
The formula on Rad Purple was VERY thin and watery.  So when applying make sure you wipe the excess from the brush and stem or you will get flooded cuticles.  Because of the thinness of the formula, application can be a bit streaky if you use thin coats.  Which you will see on my left hand.  With thicker coats, which you will see on my right hand, the streaks are less noticeable.  Otherwise application was pretty smooth and the polish is fairly quick drying.

The other big thing you will notice between my two hands is that my right hand is darker than my left.  However, I used 3 coats of Rad Purple on each with Beauty Secrets Base Coat.  But the thickness of the coats on my right hand made a difference in color as well as streaks.  If you want the lighter shade like my left hand but with fewer streaks and vnl, visible nail line, you might want to try layering Rad Purple over a white or nude cream base underneath.  This helps to brighten the polish over it and hide your actual nails at the same time.
Despite the few issues, I really like Rad Purple.  I do think next time I will use it over a white base however.  But it is a fun color and a good way to welcome in summer.

Girls' Day and a Barielle Score

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days, I've been a little busy.  My husband is starting his second year of grad school at UGA on Monday so we're trying to make sure he's ready to go.  Which of course means shoe shopping as both his pairs need replacing.  What is it about boys that they only have like 3 pairs of shoes?  And yet, in general, they hate shopping so don't want to replace them when the shoes fall apart.  So tomorrow I get to drag him to the outlet mall and try to find at least one pair that are workshop safe.  Of course I'm not looking forward to this at all.  Nope, not me.  I absolutely hate shopping.  Raise your hand if you believe that.  No one?  Good.  Cause shopping is one of my absolute favorite activities.
Speaking of shopping, I did a little of that after work today.  The shopping center I work at has a TJ Maxx in it.   If you've never been to a TJ Maxx, you should check one out if you get a chance.  It's one of those stores where they get overstock, or discontinued merchandise, from other stores so you never know what you're going to find.  Sometimes you won't find anything.  Sometimes you'll find something awesome.  Today was a fairly awesome day for me.  What did I find?  I found a bottle of Barielle Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender and a bottle of Shades by Barielle in Euphoric.  Each bottle was $3.99.  I've been wanting to try this brand for a while so this find made me excited.
