Essie The Girls Are Out

How's everyone's Monday going so far?  Today I have another polish from the Essie Naughty Nautical Summer 2013 collection to show you.

The Girls Are Out is a plum crelly with silver microshimmer.  The shimmer is more noticeable in this polish than in Sunday Funday.  I found the formula to be thin and that it likes to pool and drag on the nail if you have too much on the brush.  I definitely recommend thinner coats to avoid this.  Otherwise though application is good.
I used 2 coats in the photos below over Finger Paints base coat.  I was good with two coats, but some of you might prefer 3.

Essie Sunday Funday

PRESS SAMPLE

We've made it to Friday again.  Which for a lot of you means time off for the next two days.  Who has plans?  I'll be working so think of me as you're out having fun.
Today I have Sunday Funday from the Essie Naughty Naughtical collection for Summer 2013.

Sunday Funday is a pinkish coral crelly with silver and pink microflecks.  The color leans heavy towards the pink side, but you can tell it's not a straight pink.  Formula and application were good, but I had horrible wear time.  I applied this in the evening and it started chipping the next day.  Granted, I'm hard on my hands at work, but this wore especially badly for me.  I don't normally have this issue with Essie polishes, so I'm not sure what the exact cause was.
I used 2 coats of Sunday Funday, but those of you with longer nails or who do not like any VNL I would recommend 3 coats instead.  I used Duri Rejuvacote and NYC Grand Central Station for my top coat.

As you can tell from my photos, the shimmer/microflecks are almost completely hidden on the nail.  The color is very vibrant, which I like, I just wish the shimmer showed more and that I had gotten better wear time.

Nordstrom Galaxy

I'm so sorry for the lack of posts lately guys.  My job has been kicking my butt since I got promoted in March.  But I'm going to try to get back on a decent posting schedule.  Back last Fall I was in Nordstrom one day and came across a new line of polish from the store.  So of course I had to pick one up.

Galaxy is a medium dark grey crelly, like storm clouds, with silver glitter.  Application was good, but the formula was a little thick.  The thickness might be from the glitter, but a couple drops of thinner should help.
Glitter distribution is even across the nail.  However it leaves a bumpy texture on your nail and hides the sparkle.  Adding top coat brings out the sparkle from the glitter.  I used a coat of Gelous and a coat of Seche Vite to give an extra smooth surface.  For the below photos I used 2 coats of Galaxy over a base of Barielle Nail Rebuilding Protein.

I'm not sure you can tell but I smudged my thumb a bit before taking these photos.  I was trying to see if the square cap was a removable outer cap.  As far as I can tell it is not.  Retail price for the Nordstrom line is $8.50.  If you don't live near a Nordstrom, they usually offer free shipping through the website with no minimum purchase.  I like Galaxy and will probably purchase more polishes from the line as they catch my eye.

Candie's Aqua Denim

It's Monday again.  While I'd normally be cranky about this, today I'm really excited.  Why?  Because I get to go see Pink in concert tonight!  I'm counting down the hours.
Today I have one of the new Candie's polishes to show you.  I picked up two of them at Kohl's after they were released back in October.

Aqua Denim is a bright medium blue crelly with just a hint of grey.  The formula and application were both nice.  Pigmentation was good, I only needed 2 coats for full coverage.  I used Finger Paints base coat and no top coat for these swatches.  I did experience a bit of Smurf fingers, blue staining around my cuticles, while doing cleanup, so beware of that.  I did not keep this polish on long enough to tell if it would stain, but I could see the potential for it.

I like the color of Aqua Denim quite a bit.  My only issue with the polish is the price.  The Candie's polishes retail for $8 a piece at Kohl's.  For me, that's a little high, especially for a new brand.  I would recommend waiting for a sale to pick up some of these.
