Orly Miss Conduct

Happy Friday all!  Anyone have big plans for the weekend?  Mine involve going back to work.  I'm actually looking forward to it.  So to celebrate, today I'm showing you Miss Conduct from the Orly Naughty or Nice collection for Holiday 2012.

Miss Conduct is a magenta base with scattered holographic particles.  Formula was good and application was very smooth, no special base coat required.  I used Finger Paints base coat and no top coat for these photos.  I got a little happy with my clean-up brush on my middle finger so please excuse the excessive gap.

If you saw my holo comparison post here, you know that Miss Conduct is lighter than OPI Extravagance and Zoya Blaze.  I really like this polish and recommend it if you like holos.

Holiday 2012 Holographic Polish Comparisons

Merry Christmas everyone.   Happy Tuesday or Movie and Chinese Food Day to everyone not celebrating.  Today I just have a quick comparison of a couple holographic polishes that have come out this season, and one older polish, for you.

For this comparison I used 2 coats of each polish over Finger Paints base coat and no top coat.  The polishes are Zoya Blaze on my thumb, Orly Miss Conduct on my index finger, OPI DS Extravagance on my middle finger, Zoya Aurora on my ring finger, and Color Club Gift of Sparkle on my pinky.  I noticed no significant difference in application or formula between the Zoyas, OPI, and Orly.  The Color Club was a bit thicker because of the glitter particles.

As you can see, there are similarities in color, but no dupes.  I'd say Aurora and Gift of Sparkle are the closest color wise.  Do you need all 5 of these?  Maybe not, but they are definitely different enough to justify buying all of them if you like all 5.

Orly Galaxy Girl

Galaxy Girl is the last of my Orly Cosmic FX collection reviews.  This one actually belongs to a friend of mine, but she was kind enough to lend it to me.  So everyone thank Lyz.  I saved this one for last because it was hands down my favorite of the 5 I tried.  Galaxy Girl is described as purple with blue green fx. I think I would call it more of an aqua or teal fx, but that's just me.

Look at that teal flash in the bottle.  The color kind of reminds me of a deep bruise.  But in a good way somehow.  Application was good and pigmentation was nice on GG.  I used 3 coats for full opacity and evenness with Bonder Basecoat and Polishield Topcoat.  With GG you can see the main purple and the secondary teal on the nail all the time in all lighting conditions.

Make sure to enlarge the pictures above so you can see the full effect of the two colors.  While I was driving to work one day, I glanced at my nails and got a bit of a surprise.  The way the sun was reflecting through the windshield off my nails made GG look ruby red!  I tried to get a picture of it with my phone, but couldn't quite capture the full effect.  I did get this shot which shows a nice gradient I think.

As I said above, Galaxy Girl is my favorite from this collection that I've reviewed.  I actually don't really want to give it back.
Final thoughts on this collection:  It is a beautiful collection, but I'm not sure they are must haves for the most part.  Galaxy Girl would be the exception to that for me.  It is the most unique of the group, except maybe Space Cadet which I do not have access to.  The Cosmic FX collection can be found online and some salons and supply stores still have it in stock.

Orly Halley's Comet

*Looks around*  Ummm, where have the last two weeks gone?  So sorry about the disappearing act.  I blame loopiness due to evil tree sperm of death, aka pollen.  I swear I can barely remember what day it is half the time.  Of course Hockey Playoffs might be contributing too.....
Halley's Comet is the second blue from the Orly Cosmic FX collection.  It is described as a Turquoise with green yellow fx.  It is definitely turquoise, and a lovely one.  But I did not get much of the green yellow to come through on the nail.

With Halley's Comet I used Orly Bonder as my base, 3 coats of polish on all fingers, and Orly Polishield as my top coat.  3 coats were sufficient for this one as it is more opaque, but still a little streaky so be careful with application.

Another thing to look out for is a removal issue I found.  With both clean up and full removal I had a big problem with Halley's Comet staining the skin around my nails blue.  You can see it in the above pictures if you enlarge them and look closely.
I like the color a lot, but I am not a fan of the staining.  It is also a familiar color and reminds me a lot of Zoya Charla, which you can see a swatch of here

We Now Return to Our Regularly Scheduled Programing...Or Orly Out of This World

WOOT!  I have home internet again!  And just in time for my 100th post.  Let me just say it's a good thing I have some internet on my phone.  Otherwise I might have gone crazy the last few days.  Well....crazier.  I did resort to some cleaning that needed to be done.
I have another polish from the Orly Cosmic Fx collection for you today.  Out of This World is a deep purple with pink silver Fx, or flashes.  Once again, I had a hard time seeing these flashes on the nail.  In the bottle the secondary colors are quite evident, but are very rare on the nail.

Application was a little streaky with this polish, but less sheer than with Lunar Eclipse.  I think this has to do with the minerals and crystals in the polish, but that is just a guess.  I used a base of Orly Bonder and a top of Orly Polishield.  There are 3 coats of polish on my thumb, middle, and pinkie fingers while my index and ring finger each have 4 coats.  There is not an overly obvious difference between 3 & 4 coats.

Out of this world is a lovely purple shade.  I wish the pink flashes would show up more though.  Without the pink, this polish reminds me of Zoya Valerie and the pictures of Julieanne I've seen.  So while I like the color, it is not overly unique.  If you already have a one of the Zoya polishes I mentioned, you can probably give this one a pass.

Orly It's Not Rocket Science

It's St. Patrick's Day week.  Do you have your mani picked out for Thursday yet?  No?  Don't worry, this week I will be featuring green polish.  I'm starting with It's Not Rocket Science from the Cosmic FX collection by Orly.  INRS, sorry not typing that full name out a bunch of times, is described as green with gold blue fx.

I would describe INRS as a yellowish green almost like a new tennis ball.  I was concerned about how this would look on, but when I found it on clearance for $2.99 I figured it was worth trying at least.  I was pleasantly surprised by how INRS looked on, for me at least.  Is it a polish I will wear often?  Probably not, but it's nice for something different now and then.
Application was pretty smooth and the formula was a nice consistency.  It was a little sheer, but 3 coats give nice even coverage without anything underneath.  I used Orly Bonder as my base and PoliShield as my top coat.

The color shift was a little hard to see, but I did capture one good shot of it.  Look closely at my thumb in the following photo:

So what do you ladies think?  Definitely not your typical green, but sometimes that's a good thing.

Orly Lunar Eclipse

Today I'm starting reviews of the Orly Cosmic FX collection from last fall.  What makes the Cosmic FX collection special are the natural rock minerals, crystals and glass infused in the polish to create an optical effect to make your nails explode with color.  At least that's what the press release says.  They are definitely vibrant and sparkling.
Lunar Eclipse is described as a blue with pink purple fx.  When you look at the bottle, you will see several different colors depending on the light.
This one is direct sun

This is inside on my polish station

Big difference huh?  Most of the time on the nail, at least for me, I was only seeing the blue.  It's a lovely rich blue, but I would have liked to get more of the pink/purple on the nail.  With all the polishes in this collection that I'll be reviewing I used Orly Bonder as my base coat and Orly Polishield as my top coat.  For Lunar Eclipse, I put 3 coats of polish on my pinky, middle finger, and thumb then 4 coats on my ring and index fingers.  I did this to show how big a difference the number of coats makes with this polish.  You can mostly tell the difference in direct sun, but I could still tell indoors as well.

Direct Sun

Shade

Indoors was the only place I managed to see any of the pink/purple on my nail.  But man was it hard to photograph.  This polish in general was actually hard to capture.  These pictures are not the most color accurate but are the best I could get with my camera.  I even tried my cell phone and couldn't get anything better.  But here are the indoor shots

If you enlarge the direct sun photos, you should be able to see on the 3 coat fingers a bit of unevenness.  This polish is very sheer and can be very streaky as well if you do not apply it very carefully.  I would recommend using this polish on top of either a dark blue or a black base polish to decrease streak visibility, and just to cut back on the number of coats you need.
