12 Days of Christmas - Day 11!

Hello Everyone!

It's the penultimate day of our 12 Days of Christmas here at Power Poppy - DAY 11! Its me Jenny Colacicco and I'm thrilled to be joining you here on the blog today to share some more Christmassy goodness featuring the gorgeous and hilariously punny Season's Greenings stampset.  Ally already shared some beautiful inspiration using this set that comes in both clear and digital versions, (in case you missed it you can check it out here).

I'm going to be watercoloring my card today and have a few behind the scenes process shots to give a little insight to my card creating.  This is a fully one layer card so great for mailing too!

I first stamped my image using a watersoluble ink as I'm doing 'no-line' watercolor -  I want the outline to blend in with my coloring rather than being a stark outline.  I typically use Distress Ink for this.  There are other 'no-line' inks that are also great such as Amalgam from Gina K or Barely Beige from Simon Says Stamp, but Distress seems to be my constant go too. I use a stamp positioner to stamp - particularly when stamping on watercolor cardstock (I'm using Arches hotpress) which is textured -  the positioner lets me stamp a couple of times to get a clear impression.  Im using Old Paper Distress ink.

When I do no-line watercoloring on small detailed images I like to use small brushes - I'm using a 00 round (and I might go up to a 2 round for larger areas) which helps me control the paint and add my outlines where I want them.   I focus on each 'item' at a time, outlining the image with my brush where there would be shadow,  pulling out the coloring with a damp brush and then building up layers and shading.

I'm using pan watercolors from Altenew for my watercoloring.  I particularly like to have pans so I can stamp my image, set it on a clipboard and then sit down in front of the TV one evening to color!   Here's a close up of the wreath itself. I just love that little chickadee perched on the top of the wreath.  You'll see I free handed a hanging hook from the wreath up to the top of the panel too.   I wanted to give a sense of an outside door.

I also stamped the bird from the set down at the bottom of the scene as if he was talking to the little guy on the wreath, and shaded in the background and ground loosely to ground the bird and the wreath.

I flicked white paint over the panel when dry for some snow in the scene.  To finish, I heat embossed the sentiment in Metallic Copper embossing powder (from WOW! Embossing).  It's a little hard to see in the photo but I added a few clear Nuvo Crystal Drops to the berries for a little dimension.

And don't forget...!

Day 12: Window Shaker Gift or Stocking Stuffer

Hello Everyone! Kathy Racoosin happily here for Day 12 of the 12 Days of Christmas extravaganza! If you are just joining us, you have some catching up to do! There are ten other inspiring projects made by the talented Bloom Brigade that I find super inspiring and so creative! Keep in mind, if you play along with us during any one of the 12 days and try our project at hand, link up your creation HERE and you’ll be in the running for our Power & Spark 12 Days of Christmas Challenge. You read that right: you’ll have 12 ways to enter. Play along once or try all 12 days for more chances to win a $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop!

In past years on my blog I have created a version of the Christmas Cracker but, nothing like these for Day 9. This year I set out to create a Window Shaker -- a small gift or stocking stuffer filled with some essentials for the crafter or that person who loves makeup.

Meet the Window Shaker crafted from up-cycled toilet paper rolls! In the video below, you will see how I crafted these and what's inside.

Now all I need to do is decorate these and that's the most fun part.

One of the window shakers was designed to give to a crafter with a bag of beautiful sequins, a tiny punch, pencil sharper, hand lotion and a perfume sample.

The second window shaker was designed for a make up aficionado. I have been saving my beauty samples or "gifts" and they were perfect to put inside.

Everything I used for my shakers I found in my house and that was appealing to me. If I was making several of these, I would have to do a little shopping. To keep everything intact and in the roll, I wrapped them with waxed paper. I love the look and feel of wax paper but, colored tissue paper would be beautiful too. I do recommend to die cut the window in the paper that you will be wrapping the roll with.

To decorate my window shakers I stamped the "Rustic Rejoicing" stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on some Neenah cardstock.

Outlining the image with a blue marker guided me where to cut out the image to decorate the shaker.

The "tags" I created were attached with a glue dot. I decided to cut through the wax paper so the window would be more see through. Thank goodness it was easy.

I used my scissors to cut the window out of the wax paper and fringed the ends for extra fluff.

The "Rustic Rejoicing" stamp set is sooo beautiful I had to stamp the pinecone clusters again to relax, chill and color. I will finish this later but, just wanted to share with you.

Thank you for your visit today and I hope you picked up a tip or a trick. Remember, if you try any one of the 12 projects featured during our 12 Days of Christmas -- be sure to link up your creation HERE so that you are in the running for the $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop!

Have a good start to your week and I hope you feel the joy of the season!

Hugs,
Kathy Racoosin

Day 11: Festive Beverage Gift Tags

Howdy all!  Welcome the ELEVENTH day of our 12 Days of Christmas here at Power Poppy! I'm your hostess Allison Cope. We only have one more day to share some fun and festive gift ideas for this holiday season.

We should also point out this is a part of our Power & Spark Challenge. Instead of just one theme, create something inspired by one of our 12 days of tutorials, link up your creation HERE and you'll be in the running for this month's challenge. Just think you are creating something fun --creating a gift for someone -- AND you have a chance at winning $50 in Power Poppy Bucks at the Power Poppy Shop!

Today I'm sharing a variety of festive beverage tags featuring all kinds of amazing stamp collections.

The beauty of wine tags is that they can be almost any size!!  Yup... you can make them wide or thin, tall or short, multi-layered or just one simple layer.  So each one of my tags today is not like the other.

If you know me, I'm a super-duper purple fan so I always find a way to incorporate it into my creations... event Christmas ones!  So my first tag is all about purple.  It features the large "Winter Wonderland" stamp set, colored in using Copic Markers.

To create the snowflake background, I used the snowflake cluster from the "Glitter House Village" and I used the simple sentiment from the "Berry Sweet Holiday" to finish off the tag.

My second beverage tag features one of my favorite new stamp sets.  It's called "Tweet Tidings".  This cheery tag has a few touches of silver to add some sparkle.

I colored my images using Prismacolor Pencils.

Not all of our hostesses are female!  So I tried to create a little more masculine feel to it.  So I grabbed my "Action Santa" and "Holly Golightly" stamp sets and created this more manly tag.

I chose to die cut the end of my tags in a little bit of a different angle.  I even matched it to my mini hanging tag.

My final beverage tag features the "Dream Wedding" stamp set.  I thought it would be completely fitting to give to your New Year's Eve party hostess.

I even made it to be a fun shaker element with some sparkly confetti inside.  Instead of die cutting a hole I chose to use a length of wide ribbon to hang my tag around the neck of my beverage.

For variations on these tags try:
  • Adding a card to the tag so it opens up with a message for your recipient
  • Add a pocket to drop in a gift card (coffee shop, liquor store, etc.)
  • Add a detachable homemade ornament for the receipient's Christmas tree
  • Attach a gift certificate for the local taxi service or a mode of local public transportation

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Remember, if you try any one of the 12 projects featured during our 12 Days of Christmas -- be sure to link up your creation HERE so that you are in the running for the $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop! Be sure you pop back tomorrow for our final day of our Twelve Days of Christmas extravaganza as the lovely Kathy Racoosin dazzles us with her challenge inspiration! Until then... cheers!

Day 10: Wooden Ornaments

Hello Everyone! Jessie here today with Day 10 of our 12 Days of Christmas extravaganza! If you are just joining us, you have some catching up to do! There are nine other inspiring projects made by the talented Bloom Brigade that you won't want to miss!

For the 10th Day of Christmas.... I have always wanted to make some of those little wooden round ornaments! I figured what better time then for this project! I pulled out my Heaven and Nature Sing and Glistening Paperwhites stamp sets! I stamped the images and sentiments on the discs using Versafine Black Onyx.

I coloured them up with my Polychromos coloured pencils, best part is that on the wood I didn't do a ton of layering, just one layer blending a few colours together. These all came together rather quickly!

Once I finished all my colouring, I took the black pencil and retraced my stamp lines.

All that is left to do is add a bit of string and hang them on a tree. These were super fun to make I may have to cut myself some more discs next year and do some more!

And, it's just that simple! Want to join in on the fun and give any one of the 12 days of projects a try? Just get creating and link your creation up HERE! Whether you make wooden ornaments or any one of the other amazing projects that the Bloomies have created over the last nine days you can play along and are in with a chance to WIN!

I hope you've enjoyed these super easy and very quick Christmas projects and don't forget to pop back in tomorrow! Ally Cope is in the house with a fun way to add a little stamped love to your gift giving this holiday season!

Thanks for stopping by,
Hugz,

Day 9: Christmas Cracker & Place Card

Hello Everyone! Kathy here today with Day 9 of our 12 Days of Christmas extravaganza! If you are just joining us, you have some catching up to do! We are already at Day 9, so there are eight inspiring projects made by the talented Bloom Brigade that you won't want to miss!

In case you missed it.... If you play along with us during any one of the 12 days and try our project at hand, link up your creation HERE and you’ll be in the running for our Power & Spark 12 Days of Christmas Challenge. You read that right: you’ll have 12 ways to enter. Play along once or try all 12 days for more chances to win a $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy ShopWon't that get you jingling this Christmas?!

Now what would Christmas be without the traditional Christmas Cracker ---- or Christmas Bon Bon as they are often known by here in Australia!  Hands up who wears the goofy tissue paper crowns on Christmas Day......I know there are more of you out there!!  ;)  You can either buy the pre-cut Cracker or even cut one yourself using a template or a Silhouette download.  I found a kit at my local store (yes it comes with the goofy tissue paper crowns) with the snaps, glitter and even jokes - but hey you can always print your own and even add special gifts inside!

Construct your cracker and then find some Christmas patterned paper and ribbon to tie the ends (with all your goodies inside).  Cut the paper to size and adhere to the middle of the cracker.

Stamp your chosen image - I've used Under Glass: Christmas Traditions - and colour with your favourite colouring medium.  I've stamped this fabby tree in Memento Tuxedo Black onto Blending Card and coloured with Copic Markers and then fussy cut the tree.  I've also cut a piece of golden brown card using Lacy Ovals Nestabilities and popped the tree up on foam tape.

I've then adhered the decorative panel to the middle of my cracker...

Since I was getting all crafty, I figured why not make a quick, matching place card!  Simply take a piece of white card, punch the bottom with a border punch and fold in half.  Add a piece of red card and add some sparkle with Glitter Tape.  I've added a white oval die cut (to write the name on - I would have done that but my writing is AWFUL, so I spared you that!) and then stamp the tree from Under Glass: Christmas Traditions, colour with Copics, fussy cut and pop up on foam tape!

Are you singing carols, dreaming of a white Christmas (or a hot beachy Christmas for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere), wearing holly in your hair and got itchy fingers and can't wait to play along with our 12 Days of Christmas Challenge........then get creating and link your creation up HERE!  Whether you make a Christmas Cracker / Bon Bon, Place Card or any of the amazing projects that the Bloomies have created over the last nine days you can play along and are in with a chance to WIN!

I hope you've enjoyed these super easy and very quick Christmas projects and don't forget to pop back in tomorrow for the next gorgeous idea for your home!

Merry Christmas!
~Kathy~
