Inspire Me Monday - Ruffled Up

Hey everyone, Jessie here today with another Inspire Me Monday for you all! Today I am painting up the Wild Ruffled Orchids!

I had a blast with this image, playing with a new watercolour brush that I got for Mother's Day, this was the first real image that I got to paint with it. But I love this brush!

As per usual, I have a process video to share with you all!
Happy colouring

Hues to Use -- Pure Gold!

Hello all and happy Tuesday to YOU! I hope for those of you living in the States, you have successfully awoken out of your food comas and are back to the land of the living! ;-) What a week! Hopefully, you were surrounded by all of those you love with some amazing food to boot!

Here at Power Poppy, we are still recovering from the massive sale over the weekend that so many -- SO MANY -- of you took advantage of! We are surely thankful for that! And today, it's back to throwing up glitter dust and sharing that spark of colorful creativity with you all! It's time for another edition of....

This little trio of color cues is rather fun if I don't say so myself! This little crochet bag is one that Marcy picked up at a craft fair. Well, she felt that all that red crochet needed a little creative pick-me-up, so she raided her button jar, pulled out her faves and adorned this little number with a whole host of vintage buttons she had in her stash! Simply delightful in my book!

HOW TO PLAY: To play along with us is simple -- use these three colors as inspiration for your card or creation and then, when you're done, link up your creation using our linky below! Easy peasy!

I have to say, we've been super blessed with amazingly talented designers joining us from week to week to help us usher in this weekly challenge. And guess what folks? Today is no different! As you can see by my blog post title, this week's guest designer is PURE GOLD! ;-) Let me introduce you to....

Hi, I'm Nicola. I'm from South England, but I now live in Canada with my husband and two children. I'm a stay-at-home mum and help out at my daughter's pre-school when I'm needed. I've been doing all sorts of crafts from a young age, but my biggest passion now is colouring and paper crafting. I am super thrilled to have been asked to guest design for Hues To Use this month. I've been in love with Marcella's florals since I discovered them, but only recently had the confidence to colour such detailed images (thanks to Alyce's classes at Kit & Clowder).

NICOLA'S CREATION

When I saw the colour palette I decided to go a bit 'wild' and opted for a two-colour flower. The back petals were going to be two-tone but it didn't look right, so I went over with red. I actually like how it turned out as it makes the lighter red of the front petals really pop.

These flowers are so beautiful I didn't want to clutter them with embellishments, so I went with a layered and textured card to show them off instead. I just bought some new corner dies and thought these little squares would perfectly accent all the fluffy ruffles. I don't always have something complete in mind when I'm making a card, so I originally put the white die-cut card onto the red layer and straight onto the blue.

This red to blue contrast actually made my eyes go a bit funny though, so I added another white layer. Once I had all the layers complete, I finished off with the sentiment, twine and a few sequins.

While I was having fun with the colours I decided to make a tag too, but with the flowers in the opposite colourway. I added the sentiment directly over the image on the same layer and die-cut just a little at the bottom corner. I used the same twine and a few sequins to bring everything in line with the card.

Here's a closeup for you...

Thank you so much for joining me this week! I hope this color combo and my projects inspire you to play along with us for this week's Hues to Use!

Thank you so much, Nicola! What a vibrant pair of projects, masterfully colored and beautifully put together! We are so lucky, like I said, to have such a fine caliber of artists willing to share their time and, more importantly, talents with us. We should point out if you'd like to see more of Nicola's work, all you have to do is hop on over to her blog HERE!  And remember.... if you would like to be a guest hostess and share the weekly Hues, all you need to do is play along with us! We grab all of our guests right from the weekly link lists! So get those fingers inky and let's see how you put these Hues to good use!

Until next week!

Inspire me Monday - Copic Markers with Mindy

Hi everyone. I'm Mindy Baxter from My Creative Scoop and I'm so excited to be a special guest for Power Poppy's Inspire Me Monday post. I love to color and Power Poppy Stamps are perfect for coloring and you can get so much detail in with your coloring.

Today I am sharing a Copic Marker Tutorial with you all and I'm using Ruffled Orchids image.

Ruffled Wild Orchids Digital Stamp Set

Let’s get to coloring!

So, these are the steps I've used for each of the flower petals. Below is step by step on how I colored the leaves.

So I took these steps for all the leaves. There are little lines for shadows on the leaves -- this makes shading easy because you know exactly where to shade the leaves with the darker colors.

I hope you have enjoyed my Copic Marker Tutorial. If you would like to see more of my tutorials and classes check out my site, My Creative Scoop.
