Day 10: Wooden Ornaments

Hello Everyone! Jessie here today with Day 10 of our 12 Days of Christmas extravaganza! If you are just joining us, you have some catching up to do! There are nine other inspiring projects made by the talented Bloom Brigade that you won't want to miss! Keep in mind, if you play along with us during any one of the 12 days and try our project at hand, link up your creation HERE and you’ll be in the running for our Power & Spark 12 Days of Christmas Challenge. You read that right: you’ll have 12 ways to enter. Play along once or try all 12 days for more chances to win a $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop!

For the 10th Day of Christmas.... I have always wanted to make some of those little wooden round ornaments! I figured what better time then for this project! I pulled out my Heaven and Nature Sing and Glistening Paperwhites stamp sets! I stamped the images and sentiments on the discs using Versafine Black Onyx.

I coloured them up with my Polychromos coloured pencils, best part is that on the wood I didn't do a ton of layering, just one layer blending a few colours together. These all came together rather quickly!

Once I finished all my colouring, I took the black pencil and retraced my stamp lines.

All that is left to do is add a bit of string and hang them on a tree. These were super fun to make I may have to cut myself some more discs next year and do some more!

And, it's just that simple! Want to join in on the fun and give any one of the 12 days of projects a try? Just get creating and link your creation up HERE! Whether you make wooden ornaments or any one of the other amazing projects that the Bloomies have created over the last nine days you can play along and are in with a chance to WIN!

I hope you've enjoyed these super easy and very quick Christmas projects and don't forget to pop back in tomorrow! Ally Cope is in the house with a fun way to add a little stamped love to your gift giving this holiday season!

Thanks for stopping by,
Hugz,

Monday

Inspire Me Monday: You Spin Me Around!

Howdy Power Poppy Peeps!  It’s time another Inspire Me Monday! I’m your hostess Allison Cope and today we’re going to talk about creating a fun spinner card using digital stamps.

As most of you know, there is nothing I like better than to create cards that have interactive elements to them. So today, I’m going to share with you all how to create a card using a digital image as your focal interactive element.

Grab a cup of something icy and join me in my craft room…

Thanks for joining me at my crafty desk.  Here’s a little replay of all three of our spinner cards featured today…

First off, the card we created together, it features the digital stamp “Sunflower Power”.

Here’s a close up of our sunflower.
Copics: Flower: Y32, YR21, YR12, YR15, Y08, E70, E71, E74, E77  Leaves: YG93, YG95, YG97

Here’s our Santa Snowglobe featuring the digital image “Snowglobe Greetings” and some fun clear stamps too; holly from Heaven & Nature Sing.

Here’s a gander at all that sparkle…

And finally, our extremely simple spinner card featuring the clear stamp set, Pure Prairie Spirit.

And here’s a quick glance showcasing those iridescent Fine Tech Metallic paints…

Thank you so much for joining me today.  I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.  I’d love to know if you’d give making a spinner card a go in the comments!  Have a week everyone!

Inspire Me Monday: Tips + Tricks from Rhea

Hello Power Poppy Fans!  Rhea Weigand here to bring you Monday Inspiration!!
You can find all of Power Poppy Clear Stamps Here just in case you want to try this on some of the NEW HOLIDAY STAMPS JUST RELEASED!

There are a few techniques I used in this design.
  1. Monochromatic with a Color Pop - With this being a Christmas design I used the E80's.  This color set has a nice green hue to them.  The forward pieces are lighter and are accented with Karina Wink white.  The pieces in back were colored with the darker colors.  This gives the overall appearance of depth.  The Color Pop is the stamped sentiment in Red.
  2. No Line Coloring - I used Memento Desert Sand being that I was coloring with the E's.  Keep in mind with out the black lines your overall color can look a little different because you loose the details of the stamped image.
  3. Using an Embossing Folder Over the Colored Image that Matches the Background - Once I was done and I knew the Copics were dry I had a thought to run this through my machine with a dot embossing folder....what's the worse that could happen?  I had to start over?  As it turned out I thought it was awesome!  So I did a piece in the background to match :)  I don't usually have a plan for a design it just all comes together in the end.
  4. Using Matching Dies to Create a Frame for the Original Die Cut - It looked a little plain and I wanted to really have the "Color Pop of Red"  So I took the original size die and the next size die.  Perfectly nested them, taped them together so they wouldn't move and created a frame with red card stock.   Once it was attached with a thin layer of glue I then used glossy accents to frame the inside with beaded chain for further effect.
  5. Using a Drop of Matching Stickles and Covering with Faber-Castels Texture Gems (a thick totally clear drying that creates a dome) - Which magnifies the little bit of glitter at the bottom.  I did this on all the berries and the inside of the flowers.
Now, here are the few colors I used.

Thanks for visiting, and if you would like to visit my blog I would love to see you over there!

Inspire Me Monday... Gift Card Tutorial

Hello fellow Power Poppy lovers! I’m Allison and I’ll be your host today for Inspire Me! Monday!

If you don’t know me then you won’t know that I always love a good interactive card...yup... something that moves or pulls up or swings out. But I love a card that contains something special like a gift card so today I'm going to share with you my very first video on how to create a fun card that holds a gift card inside for that special someone on your shopping list!

Because the holidays are creeping up on us so quickly, I thought I’d make a Christmas themed card but this tutorial will work for any type of card; birthday, anniversary, thank you... you name it.

Today’s video features the amazing two newly released stamp sets, Heaven & Nature Sing and Bough Wow Wow.  These two stamp sets along with 6 other Happiest Holiday Stamp Collection are now on sale in the Power Poppy Store.

I hope you enjoyed my first video and get a chance to make a few gift card holding cards real soon!

Happy stamping!

Friday

Heaven and Nature Sing!

Happy last day of the new release peeks! Oh, wait, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Hopefully you’re sitting at your computer or iPad with a couple of fun-size Snickers or Baby Ruths, and your coffee, revved up to go. I really think today’s set is gonna rock ya... Maybe even moreso if you’ve been listening to Rockin’ Robin on the way to school, at your son’s request, as I have! :)

Most of you know I’m a sucker for nostalgic old ephemera. Bring on the books, postcards, magazine pages, labels, packaging... I eat it all up, from the lettering styles and composition to the color palettes and the subject matter itself.

While gathering inspiration for my Happiest Holiday collection — and this is the last set, there are EIGHT in all, see them here — I snuck away to antiques shops and antique malls, shuffling through stuffy piles of stuff, and sifting through shoeboxes of paper goods. Doug and I ventured out on daytrips to small towns outside St. Louis and poked into junk stores (we love doing that!) on the hunt for vintage Christmas goodies to spark ideas. I really struck gold in a few booths at an antique mall down the road, finding handfuls of penny postcards dated from 1908-1912. O Happy Day! Cue the Happy Inspired Artist Dance!

The design themes of that era were so pervasive — lots of birds in pine trees. Lots of picturesque churches. Lots of holly sprigs and mistletoe. Oftentimes two or three of these themes were all in the same card, isolated into small framed areas. Some of ’em were quite terrible. Just too much going on. While others had a harmony and sweetness that really touched me. I have to confess, the compositions of these cards reminded me of trends in modern cardmaking! Embellished frames and die cuts, embossed details dotted with sparkle, gold or silver-foil stamping and edging, fanciful sentiments... It was kind of an epiphany. We’re coming full circle with our card creations — only now they cost a little bit more than a penny. ;) hehe.

My November release has many-a-nod to the classic themes of these 100-year-old postcards. So far you’ve gotten a glimpse of the holly swags of Bough Wow Wow and the snow-covered church of O Holy Night, and several of the Merry Littles reflect that old-time look. But today’s set might be the most nostalgic of all... featuring two rockin’ robins. Introducing: Heaven and Nature Sing.

http://powerpoppy.com/products/heaven-and-nature-sing

I’m almost giddy to share this set with you... Heaven and Nature Sing has seven stamps, several are ideal for holiday cards, but really, the main images can be used throughout the year. It’s all how you treat the subject matter, and how you make it “sing” in your unique way! Will it be deep jewel tones or a fresh and cheerful treatment? How about both!

The Bloom Brigade has gone above and beyond with their card samples, and I can almost hear the GASPS! that will be arising across the land — er, the world! — as you open their blogs. Please join me in seeing what everyone has made for today!! Thank you, special special Bloomies!! AND — we have a GUEST today for this peek.... the lovely and gifted Dina Kowal is also here. O Happy Day again!

Tomorrow... we’re HOPPING! Hope you’ll spend part of your day with us, and then it’s time to grab your sets in the store! We’ll be shipping ’em out as the orders come in.

Have a Happy Halloween! Off to finish the sideburns for Finn’s Blues Brothers costume. He’s my own little rockin’ robin.
