Creative Confetti: Make a Wish!

Hello everyone! Happy Tuesday and welcome to a brand new Creative Confetti! This week we're all about wishes...as in, what do you wish you had growing in your garden that you currently don't? Maybe it's a tropical flower that won't survive in a colder climate, perhaps it's a flower that's considered invasive in your area or maybe it's just something you haven't gotten around to planting yet! Whatever it is, create a project highlighting that flower.

How to Play: Create a project that features a flower or plant that you wish you had growing in your garden!

On to my creation.....

When I first discovered Power Poppy I fell in love with the digital stamp set Bubbles and Fizz. It features an image of Golden Wattle, which I had never heard of before. It's a tree that is native to Australia (and is also their national floral emblem) and it produces the prettiest yellow flowers. I think the flowers look like little pom poms, they are so fun to look at and are just such a happy flower! I would love to line my property with these trees just so I could see those happy yellow flowers all summer!

To start my card I printed out the image from Bubbles and Fizz, resized it to what I wanted for the front of my card and then used my Copics to color it.

After getting the image colored in I decided it looked a little plain to me so I used my B01 and B000 to color in around the image. After doing that I took a white gel pen and added some white dots along the outlines of the leaves just for a little more visual appeal.

When I showed my husband the card he asked me what the flowers were and I told him, and he asked if we could get some for our yard. I wish dear, I wish!

Okay friends, now it's your turn! Let's see the flowers you wish you had in your gardens! If you have Power Poppy stamps, please use them! If not, remember each entry will be one more chance at winning a $25 gift code to the Power Poppy Shop! (That means you might be able to WIN some!)

Have fun!!

Inspire Me Monday - Do something new!

Hey everyone! Jessie here long time no see! I missed you all so much on the Power Poppy Blog. Today I am using the Bubbles and Fizz digital stamp, and a completely new technique to me! Of course, I have a process video for you!

This one was super fun, it def did not turn out how I expected it to. But it was great fun to step outside of my comfort zone, especially with the way the world is now, and me using lots of lost or forgotten things from my stash.

So remember to reach into those things, that have been in your stash for a long time that you haven't gotten around to using for quite some time. Have some fun and try something new!

Stay safe and have fun
Hugs

Creative Confetti: Life Imitating Art!

Hi all and happy Tuesday to all of you! If you're looking for ways to be inspired in your card making endeavors -- man, I think I have a fun one for you this week! This week's Creative Confetti Challenge encourages us all to step out of the card making world to find inspiration from some of the masters in the art world. Look at the scenery, the colors, the graphic impact, the lines, the message. This week's challenge is all about interpretation, and that's why it makes it so much fun! Check it out!

HOW TO PLAY: Scroll through the artwork HERE and be inspired by one of the works. Then, create with that work of art in mind - you might take the look, the colors, the message - it's up to you! There are no hard and fast rules with this challenge! The only thing I ask is that when you post your creation on social media or your blog, share a link to the work that inspired your creation!

On to my creation! When I scrolled through the prints at Art.com, I could see so many opportunities to stretch my creative limits but there was just something about this soft print that caught my eye. It looked dreamy and today, (since the sun isn't shining here) I thought I needed a little soft and dreamy in my life!

I knew it might be tricky to get the perfect image to go along with this scene. I first thought about Power Poppy's Sunset Sway, but after scrolling through my digital stamps, I settled on THIS one, Bubbles and Fizz! I thought the foliage was dreamy like the inspiration art and I thought about the ways I could create that fun tonal backdrop.

I started by dropping the grey tone image onto a 4.25 by 5.5 canvas in PhotoShop Elements and then moving and positioning two of the images to create the look of foliage coming up from the bottom. After printing, I die-cut and then covered the outer edge of my die cut, right along the stitched edges, with Post-It notes to mask this off from any ink.

Then, I used Copic markers to create the fade of color. I wanted to use Distress Inks at first but I thought masking those little bits and bobbles might be a wee bit too difficult, so... markers it was!  I used G20, BV0000, BG70 and BG72 to create this backdrop. After I was done, I took some slate blue ink and then sponged some ink on using a spotted style stencil. I wanted to create a wee bit of texture to the backdrop. I colored up the leaves and flowers too. I realize my inspiration photo was purple and white flowers but I thought this needed a pop of color. This flower is called a Golden Wattle. It's native to Australia and it truly looks like pom-poms of sunshine! See? (click the link for photos!)

From there, I just matted it all up, picking up on the yellow and sage colored green. The sentiment, which is also a digital image, is from the Saucer Magnolia set.   I used a die for the sentiment, punched a hole on each side and then used some gold cording as an accent. Here's a look at the finished card....

And, here's a little close up for you! Of course, I had to add a little splash of glitter to those bubbles to make them a little fizzier! ;-)  I think glitter makes a card happy. Just sayin'!

And that, my friends, is it!   Now, I know if you looked at my card, you might have a hard time seeing the original work but some of the elements are indeed there -- the color fade of a backdrop, and the foliage springing up from the bottom. The similarities after that are few. That's the beauty of this challenge, I didn't say "copy" the work of art. I said, "be inspired by it!" :-)

I hope you do have some creative downtime this week and can join in on the fun of  Life Imitating Art! After you're done, just link up your creation below so we can all see AND so you can have a shot at winning a $25 gift code to the Power Poppy Shop!

I'll be back soon!

Inspire Me Monday - Soft Watercolours

Hey everyone! Jessie here today, hopefully to help inspire your creative week!

I am all about floral cards, in ever medium ever!! Today I have a video with some super soft watercolour on the Bubbles and Fizz digital stamp!

I really love this image, I chose to print the lightened version of the stamp and use some light washy watercolours. I really love the way this card came out. In my usual style I blew up the image to fit the front of a card and added the sentiment that comes along with it!
I hope you enjoy my video!

I have always loved how washy watercolours work so well with florals, you don't have to worry about picking every little detail to come out with a super lovely card front!

Colours used: (these are all Daniel Smith Colours, but you can use any watercolours you have on hand!)
Cobalt Teal Blue
Quinacridone Pink
Rose of Ultramarine
Moonglow
Sap Green
Serpentine Genuine
Green Apatite Genuine
Perylene Green

Thanks for stopping by,
Hugz,
Jessie

It's My Birthday: New Digis and Goodies

Girrrrrrrl, we have a lot going on over here, for a number of reasons, it’s kind of an exciting day... tee hee, it’s my birthday!

Yep, 46 years old, and in need of my son Finn’s hand to hold up my double chin for our selfie. Ain’t life grand? I sure think so! We have a few announcements for today... first of all, our May Instant Garden digi is finally ready — in June. We’ll still bring you an all-new illustration for coloring on June 15, but to keep you entertained and inspired until then, we have a pretty special one today.

Say hello to Luminous Bouquet — a rich and wild cluster comprised of so many dynamic flowers. At the very center is a Japanese-type Peony — as you can see in Cheryl’s wonderful card above, you can really have fun with coloring this one!! The center is comprised of “petaloids” — spikey, wispy, wild petals that radiate coolness! They come in all the regular Peony shades from white to yellow to pink to red and every mixture in between. Then we have several species Clematis, which Cheryl has done in brilliant blue. The tiny flowers flittering about are Hydrangea (in purple above). Several leaves of Oxalis (clover) peek from behind the Peony. These leaves are SO fun to color in two-tone — you’ll have to do some Googling for ideas. Lastly, sprigs of Periwinkle (Vinca minor) curl around the perimeter of the bouquet. Doesn’t this look fun? I cannot wait to get my paints out to take on this one!! But wait, there’s more....

Seeing as how it’s the 5th of the month, it’s also time to introduce a few “Digis on the 5s” for our wonderful coloring and cardmaking community. One is a very detailed country scene with Hollyhock flowers called Old Time Hollyhocks. I’ve gotten a lot of requests for this one, and am thrilled to share it with you as a digital stamp set — it comes with a neat sentiment by Emily Dickinson, as well!

We are also sharing a remixed set called Bubbles & Fizz — do any of my dear Aussies see a resemblance to the Australian native tree Golden Wattle? This stylized version of Acacia pycnantha is as bubbly and fanciful as they come, and Nancy has done this one up in pink, which I just LOVE! This image is just a breeze to color, and would be fun done in any manner of fun flower/leaf combinations. Stretch your imagination with Bubbles & Fizz, and be sure to check out the upbeat sentiment that comes with it.

So, in total, we have THREE new digital stamp sets for you to play with — all landing in the shop on the same day! Want to know how you can get a BIG discount on these stamp sets? You’ll have to come with me on a little trip over to Facebook....

Come visit Passionate Paper Creations and Friends, the Facebook community run by our very own hilariously wonderful, insanely talented friends, (and an Instant Gardener!), Rhea Weigand. Power Poppy is the sponsor of the week, and if you go over to THIS PAGE on Facebook, you can join in on the fun and get a discount code to use in our store all week. PLUS, we’re having a coloring contest where you can win a $30 shopping code at powerpoppy.com — get on over there and join the group!

A recap of the images we are releasing today for your creative enjoyment.... all three of them! Which one will you dive into first?

ALL WEEK LONG we’ll be revealing cards made with these fun new downloadable sets. Today we have a few to share from these amazing Instant Gardeners. Pop by their blogs and read all about their lively cards, always made with passion and an abundance of creativity:

Thank you so much for spending part of my birthday with me! I’m just happy to be here to celebrate another sunshiney morning. As the visionary man Thich Nhat Hanh loves to say, “BREATHE! You are alive!!”

I hope you’ll come join the party over at Passionate Paper Creations on Facebook... more excitement to come. Take care, my dear ones!
