The Smurfs are Riding the Waves

Today I have another blue pairing (I'm beginning to sense I really like blue?) - I started off with two coats of China Glaze Riding the Waves, a soft jelly finish in a medium toned blue.  I loved the application of this, but obviously as with most jellies, there was an extreme amount of VNL shown (which I personally hate).

So I topped it with one coat of Girly Bits Smurf Dance.  I had tried and tried and tried to get this polish in my hot little hands and then finally I managed to snag it.  It was worth the wait!  I'm in love with this beauty.  White hexes and squares, holographic sparkles, blue hexes.  j'adore!  This was a sure fire winner!

A Long Winter's Nap

This is three coats of Girly Bits a Long Winter's Nap.  A beautiful blue-gray jelly with iridescent glitters in it.   As you can see, there is still some visible nail line, so I probably should have layered it, but I just wanted to give it a go and see how buildable it would be.

This is a nice soft palate cleanser after some of the boom polish combos I've been using.

As with all of my Girly Bits, I've been very happy with the quality of the polish and the ability to spread it on the nail.  This is one of the indie sellers I have the most polishes from for a reason!

Suri Loves Boo Berry

I started off with two coats of the gorgeous Zoya Suri.  The Diva collection was among one of my absolute favorites and Suri is one of the crown jewels.  Perfect application and coverage.

To give it a bit of fun, I added one sparse coat of Girly Bits Boo Berry on top.  This was part of her Halloween collection, but I feel that it is appropriate any time of year.  A fun girly manicure!

Sailor's Delight in Candy Corn

Today I have yet another forgotten Halloween mani.  But I loved this combo so much I felt like I wanted to share it still.

I started off with three coats of Girly Bits Sailor's Delight.  A beautiful orange jelly base with gold flakies.  It is a bit sheer, but completely buildable.  Here you can barely see my nail line.

Then I put on a coat of Girly Bits Candy Corn on top.  The Candy Corn is what pushes this into Halloween, but Sailor's Delight is perfect for fall!

As with all of my Girly Bits, application is a dream.  Great company all around, I've never had a single issue and all of them are magnificent!

Girly Bits can be purchased at her Big Cartel Store as well as on Llarowe and Harlow & Co.

Scarab in the Crunchy Leaves

Today's post was the manicure I picked to go to Napa in. Illamasqua Scarab, a beautiful deep wine red with Girly Bits Crunchy Leaves on top. I loved this combo so much. It also wore like iron and only had very minimal tip wear 5 days after application (which, for me, is nothing short of amazing). I started off with two coats of Scarab and then followed up with one coat of Crunchy Leaves. A perfect fall manicure!

All the women who are independent - throw your hands up at me

In honor of the 4th of July, I decided to put on the beautiful Pam's Girly Bits Independence Day.

This is a blue jelly packed with blue and red glitter.  I used 3 coats for these photos, but two would have been sufficient.  I added the third to deepen the blue base color.

This is a stunning polish and is understated enough for work wear to celebrate the 4th.  It also isn't overly patriotic, so you could wear this polish anytime.

I love the choices of blue and red glitter, because they just look perfect on the nail.  As with all of my Girly Bits polishes, it went on like a dream.  The polish is very easy to control on the nail.  Girly Bits is easily one of my favorite indie polish sellers!

Onto the photos of the pretty!

Daddy's Little Girl Walks On Air

For the Rainbow Challenge today it is blue.

I probably have more blues in my collection than anything else, I'm always just drawn to pretty blues.  Some of my previous favorites include Today was a Fairy Tale by Deborah Lippmann, Across the Universe by Deborah Lippmann and Dreamsicle by Lush Lacquer.

Today I chose Essence Walks on Air as the base, I applied 3 coats.  I found after 2 there were still a few bare patches.  This is a pretty blue that is gorgeous all on its own, but I wanted to add some bling.

I chose to put 2 coats of Pam's Girly Bits Daddy's Little Girl.  What a stunner of a polish.  I love the combo of blues and purples.  It dries with a satin finish, but I put one coat of Seche on top and that gave the shiny finish you see here.  I have quite a few of Pam's Girly Bits and I've always been very pleased at the quality of her polishes.  It goes on like a dream, it isn't too think or too thin.  I never have issues getting the glitters from bottle to fingers.  I just can't say enough good things about her or her products.  Her customer service is amazing as well.  I highly recommend!

I knew I was going to buy this polish just for the name.  Me?  A total daddy's girl. I have four older brothers, but my dad always wanted a girl.  My mom was so huge when she was pregnant with me they kept telling her not to rule out twins.  So after she had me they wheeled her out to see my dad (I was born in the dark ages when the men weren't in the delivery room) she was crying so hard that he fell to his knees and said "oh no, you had TWIN boys!"  When she exclaimed I was a girl, he broke down into tears of joy.  He went out, bought a little pink dress and flew it from our TV antenna on the roof!  (Told you I was born in the dark ages).  Therefore I was truly destined to be a daddy's girl from the day I was born.

It has been 10 years since I lost my father, but I am still now, and always will be, his little girl.  The title of this post reminds me of when he used to teach me how to dance and I would stand on his feet and it felt like I was on air.  To him?  I did walk on air.  He was my biggest and greatest fan, the man who told me I could be anything I wanted to be.  Who told me never to settle for less than I deserved.  Yesterday I joked that if I had a TARDIS I would buy up the NerdLacquers, but truthfully if I had a TARDIS I would take my boys back in time to meet him.  Gosh, he would have loved them so very much.  My oldest would be his sports watching buddy.  My youngest would sit in bed with him and talk his ear off and my dad would listen to every word.   Thanks for listening to me talk about my dad.  <3

The beauty of this polish lives up to the name for me.  Thank you Pam for making it!

Dazzling

Well, my beautiful Lynderella manicure was not meant to be, as it started peeling off in sheets the day of the big event!  Which, let me say, is quite embarrassing when you are putting out food and next thing you know, oh look, there is my entire nail of nail polish right there on the table all shiny and blue.  That's me, always classy...

Today I went with two coats of Girly Bits Razzle Dazzle. It dries matte, but a nice layer of top coat had her all prettied up and ready for her debut!

Let me tell you, dazzling is the perfect name for it.  It just sparkles under the lights.  It is one of those you keep looking down and smiling at your nails.  It reminds me of why I like having my nails polished in the first place.  It makes me happy.  It makes me feel better about myself in some small way.

I've already gotten a lot of compliments on my nails today, so this is definitely a winner!

Look at the sparkle in the sun!  (Warning picture spam ahead!)

This is Razzle Dazzle in the shade, still very pretty!  You can see all of the colors that show up in it here.

The Promise

Sorry so long between posts.  We had a bit of drama at our home this weekend - baby boy took a header into some playground equipment that resulted in an ER visit and what looks similar to a unicorn horn protruding from between his eyes.  All is fine other than the bruising and the bump, no concussion!

I needed a soft and safe work manicure for a meeting so I decided to go with Girly Bits Promise Me, the February entry from the Calendar Girls Collection.

I went with this one because it made me think of my baby boy (who at 5 1/2 is no longer a baby).  The promise I made to his father, the promise I made to them the day they were born.  That I will love them, forever, with everything I have to give.  This has meant countless hours of sleepless nights cuddling with them and it doesn't matter how old they are, they are still my babies.

Sadly, Promise Me didn't live up to what I wanted it to.

I think baby pink just isn't my color first of all.

Second of all, the first time I put this on (3 coats of Promise Me over 1 base coat with a top coat)?  I was in carpool line and I was messing with my cuticles (stress reaction behavior for me).  Then next thing I know the entire nail polish came off in one clean sheet (nothing left behind on the nail).  WTF?  So then I tried it with the other nails.  ALL of them, same thing.  One perfect sheet.

So I don't even know why I decided to put this mani back on again, probably to get photos.  So this time I put the lovely Julep Penelope as underwear.  Penelope was great and two coats were all that was needed.  I've had some really good luck with Julep polishes.  Then I put on one coat of Promise Me on top.  This time it decided to stick.

The other thing I didn't care for with Promise Me is that the glitter seems to look "sunken" almost pock marky on the nail.  This wasn't nail fail on my part.

I don't know.  These nails were not my bag.

The shimmer is pretty, but it was hard to get a good photo of it:

Let me know what you think.

This is two coats of Penelope (pre-cleanup) on it's own (the other finger is up because I goofed that one on the way outside).
