A Little Christmas.....

Here's a little Christmassy "Sukeshi" doll I made for an online show and sale.........you can get details from this blog: http://www.artistsofhandmade.blogspot.com   This is "Snowbird".

And here's a little boy "Pensive Child" that I am working on. I was painting him as news from the dreadful events in Paris was filtering through - I've called him "Etienne".

It's getting to be that time..........

Trying to engender a bit of Christmassy feeling (bit over a month to go!). This is the first of a few.

Also completed this 13" doll......keeping busy trying to get pre-Christmas orders done in time.

Whew!!

Well...........It's done and dusted for another year - we had a family gathering for Christmas here in my studio, which cleans up reasonably well to be used as a dining hall for a crowd. Here they all are - sans moi - I took the picture. It's taken me a full day to recover, but as I write this I'm starting to feel human again!

And now I can post a picture of this very pink trio, which was made as a special Christmas order, so I had to keep it under wraps! Pink is not really a colour I use much at all, but I had lots of fun making these.

OK.........nose back to the grindstone today - I had lots of orders that came in just before Christmas, so I need to get them ready to post.
Hope you all had a safe and wonderful Christmas with family and friends!
I'm looking forward to sharing more of my world with you in 2012.

Christmas '09

Well, it's all over for another year.......managed to feed the multitudes and we had a wonderful, sunny, happy day. Here are a few shots that I want to share. Forgot to take any of the feast, mind you! Under the tree....."before" and "after" (note the speedy unwrapper in the foreground!) Don't ask about the mud-smearing! Suffice it to say that it is a strange Antipodean Christmas custom. The little embroidered Superb Blue Wren (a native bird around here) was embroidered for me by my mother. It is all done with a single strand of embroidery thread in a painterly style......isn't he just wonderful? I might add that my mother will be eighty five in March! My sister, Linda, gave me a fabulous bear ornament that she made - it is a tiny white bear "riding" a green and red mohair bauble (a furble? a bearble?) Here is a fairly bad photo of it - will try to take a better one later.

Hello, Goodbye and a New Doll

My little Susan Fosnot doll (Gudrun) arrived just before Christmas, but I had to wait until the first mail day after Christmas to pick her up. She is just six inches of cloth doll perfection! If you haven't seen Susan's work, go to www.fosnotdolls.homestead.com You are in for a real treat. I even love the little tag.

At the same time, I have said goodbye to 'Izzy' and 'Ella' - they are on their way to a new home in the USA. I'm pleased that they are staying together in their new home.

In between Christmas festivities (spent this year with my son and his partner, Anna, at Woodbridge overlooking the beautiful D'Entrecasteaux Channel), I managed to make a body for this new doll. I don't often make knee and elbow joints, but this doll has them - jointed hips and shoulders as well, so she is quite mobile. Now I just need to work out how to dress her!
