4th of July post card

These are hand printed cards made by me on an antique printing press with antique lead and wood type.  I printed these July 4th 2011 and they got miss placed in a move.  I have since found them and wanted to make them available for others to enjoy.

They are 6 1/2 by 9 inches
lithograph  ink and printed by  hand which means each has a little different feel to it in the amount of ink on the print they are all hand signed and dated.

They are currently available in my etsy shop

i won't be making these again once they are gone there will be no more made.

Crochet Tam

smaller version of my irish crochet Tam hat minus the embellishments

This is a smaller version of my Irish crochet Tam hat. I had two balls left after making the kits for my etsy store so I made the same hat with half as many increases and got this little smaller version.  I also omitted the  cutting of one thread on the hat band and going to the steel hook. Was an experiment and I think it worked well The yarn is Bernat Cassino vintage yarn from the 1980's and no longer made. The color twill cream/tan) when worked up looks like a cream color. I made a similar hat just to give you an idea of what the color looks like better in the kits using the two balls of but it is much smaller than the one in the kit and not near as fancy.  Now what to do with it do I embellish it keep it or sell it.  Have not decided yet.

update:
Shortly after  posting this one of my neighbors stopped bye and we were discussing her friend with cancer.  Yep that must be why I made it to give to the neighbor so she can give to her friend to cover her head because of the treatments.  Somethings you never know why you are doing something till after you have done it.

Yoyo headbands

I love opening boxes I have not seen in a few years.  Quiet often I find half done projects and things I have even forgotten I have made.  This is one of those items.  Years ago I made some garlands out of fabric yoyos.  I never got around to hanging the garlands other than in photos.  So after a while I started to dismantle them and use the yoyos for other things.  This was one of those other things.  I made headbands.  There is an elastic at the nape of the neck so they can stretch and fit snuggly.

Baby bonnets, earrings, snow hats, scarfs

If you remember at the beginning of the year I was restarting with blogging.  I think I have done pretty well with getting back into blogging.

buyhandmadeblue_3I am also trying to get my etsy store going to. Some of the items in the store at the moment are sample pieces from publication either magazines or books some made it in some did not. But all are one of a kind because I pretty much made them then put them in a box and forgot where they were. Some got rediscovered and are now seeing the light of day so I decided since I had not seen some in four years from storage I would put them up for sale so someone can get use from them.

The knitted hats are from a few years back when my oldest daughter was raising money for a school trip to Washington DC with her 7th grade class.  My youngest is trying to go on that same trip now.  So since we still had these they are put up for sale for her to be able to pay her way.  She has to earn $2,800.00  so as you can see this will not get her there but that is ok every little bit helps. Hope you are all having a great day.

Pirate Frocks

IMG_2858IMG_2856I was reading the pattern I was supposed to use for the current play Les Miserables.  But upon reading it I did not trust the pattern.  The instructions were terrible to read/follow and the markings are missing from the pattern pieces.  If a person is not use to sewing lots of different items I would not recommend this pattern.

So instead of starting right in on the fabric for the play I wanted to test out the two sizes I would needed to make in my own fabric.  This is fabric I had on hand.  So I just used what I had as I did not want the test to cost me anything just wanted to try with what I had.  When I looked at my fabrics I know my kids like to play dress up for talk like a pirate day so I thought I would make mine look pirate esc.

IMG_2862IMG_2864So I traced the patterns on Sunday.  Then on Monday I made the faux leather one for an experiment.  I had my husband try on the faux leather one and it was way too small for him he should have been able to wear it.  The pattern runs two sizes too small.  The buttons on the faux leather one are a mixture of buttons I have collected over the years they are all mismatched but all look like leather knots. Some came from my mother-in-law some from my Vova some from other relatives.  I wanted it to look old and that things had been replaced and damaged from the sea.  So this is what I did.  Originally this fabric was going to be for a steam punk outfit but that never happened.  Because the pattern ran small it does not fit my husband with a 44 inch chest it will fit a chest of 40-42 so it is for sale in my etsy shop if any on eis interested in the faux Leather frock coat.

IMG_2853IMG_2852The red one I cut Monday night and and sewed Tuesday morning.  When I was making the red one it was to fit someone 4 inches bigger in the chest than me.  But it ended up  fitting me and not the young man that is four inches larger in the chest.  So this just would not work.

The red fabric was bought on clearance long ago and the green liner was a thrift shop find.

IMG_2859IMG_2854We did a rush fitting so see where things stood so I could cut into the plays fabric as I was worried before if I cut into I , it would be a wasted.  As I wanted to get started soon but after the fitting it was decided by the head costumer to do something else for them as neither of us trusted the pattern plus it has some weird details like a fly flap on the back near the vents.

So I am not making the three jackets I thought I would but I will help with fittings which still excites me.  So I am now altering dressing and finishing pieces and so on.  Below is what the fabric was to look like I was to use but since it is not happening now I do not mind showing.  If I was still making it I would not have made this post till after the play was going.  I loved the color choices and the button choices.  But I am sure the head costumer will use them for some other beautiful project.

Etsy is still having problems with their new version, so the items I would have posted today I am not able to load there.

So, hopefully, I will be able to load next Friday and just do all the items at once. I accept pay pal there now, as well.

New items on Etsy

Hemstitched, hand crocheted, double thickness of flannel, burp cloths.

These are the new items on Etsy. There are a few more that are not pictured (I am still crocheting their edges) that are boyish. All of the ones pictured to the right I have two or three of each up at Vintage Threads,Inc. on Etsy.

These are a few days late in posting; I have had a very sick little girl since the 3rd.

Side note: blogger is being ornery; it keeps deleting the photos so if you can't see it, I am sorry.
