PRETTY VINTAGE BUTTONS

Hello boys and girls! Hope you are enjoying your Saturday so far. Here in Massachusetts we finally got out of the teens and will be up in the mid-30'sF (2C) for a change. But, boy, is it windy!

Another thing that I got from my aunt's house was a plastic craft box full of buttons. Some new, some old. I took out some pretty ones to show you. I just love the rhinestone ones!

REDNESDAY

Hi everyone! It's hard to find good vintage Autumn graphics that aren't Halloween (or that haven't been used a million times). Now, mind you, artistically speaking, vintage Halloween graphics are awesome! But on the personal side Mister and I don't celebrate Halloween. So the above picture was edited to get rid of the witch flying her broom across the moon, some of the bats, and the words Trick or Treat. I changed a few colors and I think it looks pretty good!

Are any of you as clumsy as I am? I'm always bumping into things and tripping and stuff. (I think it's leftover from the double vertigo I had fifteen years ago.) Sunday, when we were getting into the truck after church, I grabbed the dash handle to hoist myself into the middle and landed hard on the seat belt buckle clicker-in thingy. OUCH! My butt is still sore!

At the thrift store this past Friday I found this cute little hen salt shaker. Yesterday while browsing  through the latest The Country House catalog I found this great sign that had me laughing out loud. So I cut it out, taped it to cardboard, and put it on the shelf with my hen. No one's noticed it yet!

Now, let's get technical about the color pink for a moment. Wikipedia says, "Pink is any of the colors between bluish red (purple) and red, of medium to high brightness and of low to moderate saturation."  Keeping that in mind I'm going to show you the cutest vintage case that was also at the thrift store.

It's in great shape - look what came inside it:

All kinds of sewing goodies! Some red, thank goodness! A few wood spools for my spool jar, pins, buttons, needles, cardboard bobbins (are those for regular machines?), and a few needle threaders. It's so much fun sorting through stuff like this!

How was your week? Full of red?

REDNESDAY

Happy Valentine's Day, my friends! A wonderful thing about Blog Land is that we are loved and cherished by each other every day. Reading blogs can always cheer me up when I'm down!

I was pretty much out of it, as far as crafting, this Valentine season. Didn't really get into it until last week, and I didn't feel like scurrying so I only did a few. After I opened my box of Valentine tags from swaps the past few years, I regretted not having a swap this year. Next year, for sure!

This is the one I made for Jade (the little girl I babysit). I was so excited to find the heart with her name on it at the country store last week. It's the perfect touch! The background is from a paper tablecloth I found as a yard sale leftover last summer.

When a friend moved about five years ago, she asked if I could hold on to a few quilts/comforters for her. She never returned for them, and I can't seem to track her down. This quilt (machine stitched) is so ragged that I doubt it would make a good cutter, but it has such cute patterns that I thought I'd show them to you. By the way, if anyone wants it (or a part of it) for a cutter, let me know and you'll only have to pay postage!

REDNESDAY

Welcome everyone to the first Rednesday in October! The air here in New England is cool and crisp! Just right for a visit to the apple farm, which I might do on Friday as there's no school.

Y'know, I like my blog friends so much that I'm willing to take the shirt off my back for you! Which is exactly what I did in order to photo it! A cute little screen printed, long-sleeved, t-shirt that I recently picked up at K-Mart.

These little scarecrow buddies seem to be having a good time. I think the two on the left are sharing a private joke!

I have slowly been filling up my wooden spool jar with finds from yard sales and thrift stores. I'm just about at the top!

Last week I showed you a red transferware mug. Here it is (on the right) with its two buddies.

I showed you my Impatiens a while back. Here they are all filled out in the planter, which is an ice bucket stand!

VTT - ONE MORE NEEDLE PACK

I have one more needle pack that I didn't show on Rednesday, because it's not red! But here it is - apparently a French one! If you would like to see my other vintage sewing needle packs, just look at yesterday's post. Then go back to Suzanne's for the rest of the vintage eye candy!

REDNESDAY - STEVE IRWIN AND NEEDLES

Okay, that title sparked your interest, I'm sure! Back in the Fall, Teen picked up a Steve Irwin (The Crocodile Hunter) action figure at the thrift shop. Needless to say, he's getting around the house - we're finding him in all different places, poses, and holidays! So we're keeping a little photo folder called "Around the House with Steve Irwin"! Yesterday, Teen put him on the shelf over my computer with a reminder note about the SAT's. Crickey! We'd better get moving on those!

Now we come to the Needles part. Mister had these vintage sewing needle cases tucked away and gave them to me last year. They're beautiful . . . and red!

Look how, on this package, it lists the different kinds of needles and their uses. I like the one called "Betweens"!
Oh, by the way, next Wednesday is St. Patrick's Day - I wonder if we can come up with some Irish red for Rednesday!

RIBBON, AND MORE RIBBON!

I love ribbon. Don't use it much, but it appeals to me, so I buy it "just because"!

Friday I was over at a local fabric/sewing shoppe called The Franklin Mill Store in Franklin, Mass. (next door, south of Medway). It's an awesome store in an old mill building that began in 1946. They still write out the sales slips by hand and use calculators - no computers!

Here is an interior shot of the store: (see the ribbon section in the background?)
And here is my little bag of goodies I came home with!
How about the size of that big red rick-rack? And, of course, on the bottom right is some cherries ribbon, and cherries buttons!
This is Fiske's General Store in Holliston, Mass. (next door, north of Medway). One of my all-time favorite places to go! As the sign says, they have "most everything". I buy LOTS of my ribbon there! They have everything from Webkins and Japanese erasers for the kids to a craft and decorating section for the moms, with a "penny" candy section just as you walk in the door.
The girls and I stopped in there after church this morning. I just had to buy one piece of ribbon!
I can't resist a bit of name-dropping - Holliston is also the hometown of Country singer JoDee Messina, and one of my brothers dated one of her sisters for many years!

So here's my whole kit 'n kaboodle, all stuffed into these boxes:
Maybe I should wallpaper a room with them - lol! Have a great week everyone!

VTT, Sewing Notions part 2

Welcome back to my Sewing Notions! Part one was yesterday, so scroll down if you'd like to view them. As always, thanks to our lovely little Coloradolady for hosting Vintage Thingies Thursdays.

Here is the tin with wooden thread spools, and clear plastic zipper containers.
This pattern marker and small "tomato" pincushion were my mom's. The little needle case is maybe made of silk.
Buttons . . . I like the graphics on this Exquisit card.
Isn't this Buttons By Schwanda logo unique? I love it!Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to browse my other posts. And don't forget to view all the other VTT's for today!
