Sew Sweet

Welcome back to another fun Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge!  This time the challenge is called "Sew Sweet"  and is hosted by the talented Cec.  Here is how she describes the challenge:

"Create a shabby chic or vintage project with a sewing theme incorporating items and/or images related to sewing - think rubber stamps of sewing machines or dress forms e.g., fabric, pattern tissue and even notions such as buttons, zippers, thread, etc."

I decided to go a different route and use the professor and layer him  up with some sewing embellishments.

I created the background on the card by spritzing some leather cardstock with antique linen spray.

After it dried I sponged on brown dye ink using the stencil.  While it was wet I heat embossed with embossing glaze.

I wanted to show you how the embossing glaze adds texture and depth of color.  I stamped the same image in brown archival ink and then sprinkled on the embossing glaze.

You can see the paper wasn't dry from my first coat of antique linen spray so the entire image was glazed with the embossing glaze.  It made it much more rich in color.

I ended up creating various pieces and created two cards with my tailor? :) .  The background faded type is stamped on a pattern paper from a robe pattern.

I pulled from the snaps, ribbon spools and safety pins to accent my cards.

I hope you can play along and share your sewing goodies!  The winner will earn a chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team.

Please keep safe!

A Vintage Journey - Sew Special

I am so happy to be guest designing today at A Vintage Journey for their "Sew Special" Challenge!  The design team is extremely talented and the challenges are always my favorite to play along in.

The challenge was to use some type of fabric (Burlap, linen, etc) and be sewing inspired.  I used fabric and I even sewed my buttons on which was an effort for me!

I used a mix of stencils and distress stains to create my background fabrics strips. I layered them and added a few random stitches. If I knew how and had a sewing machine I would have added a few lines of stitches.

I love the daisy button and how it reminded me of my clothes growing up. :)

The image is from the printers block found at a local flea market and it was fun stamping it on the fabric.

I died the tape measure to coordinate and cut some strips to accent.  The eye hooks seemed like a fun detail to add to my fabric.
