Sisters

Good Monday to you!

My project for the challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is a photo of my two daughters.  The challenge is to think about using different types of paper.  From specialty stamping paper to glitter, corrugated to extra heavy mixed media to tissue special papers that can add so much more than just a starting point for a project. I started with wood veneer and that led to this picture with the trees and greenery.

I died the veneer with a combination of stains and sprays and the tore it in half to put it in the background.

I stamped the sentiment on a scrap which I think is appropriate with family. We may all have different personalities, quirks, etc but a the end of the day it is what is in our heart towards each other.

Oh, Oh, Oh!

Be glad I didn't put it on the post title but here it is anways... "Let's go Fly a Kite"... I have been singing this for weeks.  My DH and myself just watched "Saving Mr. Banks" and the music from Mary Poppins is fantastic and had me singing bits and pieces.

Why am I singing that?  The challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is to use the Simon Says Stamp Exclusives products.  I have the sweetest set with kite stamps and dies.  I decided to create a layout of my youngest with Mary Poppins at Disney.

I love these sweet kites from Simon Says Stamp and they fit the theme of my layout perfectly.

I splattered Abandoned Coral and Cracked Pistachio in the background to create my soft pallette which mirrors the colors in he photo.

I used the scrap form my dies to create some nice puffy clouds with embossing paste.  I heated them up to dry which acutlaly adds a puffiness to the embossing paste.

Paradise

The challenge this week at   Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge  is Paradise.  I took this inspiration and created a layout for our older dog Harry who left us this summer to move onto his own paradise.  He was slowly declining over a long time and it was tough losing him this summer and wanted to do a layout in remembrance of him.

 I started with kraft 12 x 12 cardstock.

I just received two sets from Simon Says Stamp which focus on our pets.  One is a stamp set remembering our lost pets and the other was a stencil set of paw prints.

I decided to sponge on paw prints in the background which I decided to make like clouds by pairing them up.  I used a white chalk ink to try to get a soft cloud like effect.

I then mixed up and dripped blue spray over the back.  I cut strips of pattern paper to use behind the picture and gave them the same spray mix treatment.

To offset the kraft and the blue I stamped the sentiments all in brown on white and created banners to place around the layout.   I finished with a whimsical piece of twine.

Here is Harry and our other puppy basking in the sun last summer.

Products: Kraft Cardstock, Ranger Distress Stain Spary - Salty Oceant, Hero Arts - White Ink, White Acrylic Paint, Ranger Archival Ink - Coffee, Twine, Simon Says Stamp - Pawprints in our Hearts, Simon Says Stamp Stencil - Pawprints, Simon Says Stamp Sketched Alphabet, Ranger - Tim Holtz Wallflower Pattern Paper

Love You All the Way to The Moon

Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge this week challenges us to the moon.  I knew that I was going to scrap a page with with my youngest.  One of our favorite nighttime stories is the book "Guess How Much I love you?"   This started a nightly tradition of saying how much we loved each other.

We always tried to top each other and I loved that she came up with all the way to baby Jesus star and back.

I had a fantastic time creating this layout and loved how the page turned out even before I put the words and the photo into my moon.

The background was started with a mix of embossing paste applied over a star stencil.  I let that dry and then came back in with a shimmery gold mist sprayed over the entire surface.  I cut out a large circle to use to trace my moon in with watercolor pencil. I used a waterbrush to soften the edges.

I also cut a series of stars using a variety of dies which I then stamped with script.  I popped some of the stars up and left some layered under.   I added a touch of shadows with a blue watercolor pencil.  I added a mix of sequins in the background.

I printed out the words and cut them up to frame the circle. along with the image which worked in hanging off the edge of the moon.

Moments

Is there something in your stash that you don't use enough?  Or do you have a technique you love that you forget to use?   This week the   Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge   is to showcase a project doing something you should use more of or do more of...

There are quite a few extremely talented scrapbookers on the Design Team at Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge.  When I thought of what I should do more of I thought of all my pictures which I could be using in layouts.

This photo is a photo of my youngest and Grandpa at one of Grandpa's sledding parties.  The yellow in my father's shirt inspired me creating a yellow based layout.

The background a mix of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist dripped and splattered direct from the bottle with out the spray top on.

After that I used the pretty doily stencil and sponged on black dye ink randomly.

I mixed in a bit of script, and circles.  I added a sentiment on acetate which was stapled onto the layout.

Maybe this will keep me inspired to scrap more projects.

Products: Tattered Angels - Glimmer Mist Marigold, Simon Says Stamp Exclusives Set of Snowflakes Dies, Tim Holtz Doily Stencil, DarkRoom Door - Tick Tock, Ranger Archival Ink - Black, Memento Dye Ink - Tuxedo Black, DarkRoom Door - Coffee Stain, Black Pen, Acetate, StazOn - Jet Black Ink, Filmstrip, Tissue Tape

Fall Layout

This is my mom as a little girl with her family. I think it is so sweet.  They look all dressed up and I decided to create a fall layout with this photo.

My fall layout uses a stencil, some gold leaves and a lovely sentiment

The background is a mix of pattern paper with paint smeared over the surface. I then added a layer of embossing paste with a brick stencil.  I sprinkled Aged Ochre over the surface and heat embossed. In parallel I made a series of leaves using Aged Gold embossing powder and tissue paper.  I embossed a few acorn tops with Aged Gold Embossing Enamel.  I then embossed some faux flower branches using the same Aged gold embossing enamel. I assembled together with a sprinkle of Bronze Crushed Glass Glitter.  .

Products: Stampendous Jumbo Leaves, Cherish Family, Aged Gold Embossing Enamel, Aged Ochre Embossing Enamel, Paper Artsy Paint, MFT Brick Stencil, Americana DecoArt Embossing Paste, Ranger Distress Ink - Aged Mahogany, Stampendous - Clear Embossing PowderBronze Crushed Glitter

This is my mom and I think she just looks so cute in her little hat and matching coat!

My Favorite Technique

The Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge this week  is to use your favorite technique. I had to think about it for awhile as I love trying new techniques.  Usually my favorite technique is the latest one I have been playing with.  After I stopped to think about it,  I realized that I pull out my mists almost everyday and use them in a variety of ways.  This prompted me to do a project using one of my favorite techniques of spraying glimmer mist on tissue paper.

My family lives near Lake Michigan which made an easy decision of where to take Prom pictures this year. My son and his girlfriend look wonderful and the sky was overcast which provided the perfect lighting in addition to the gorgeous beach.  I knew the Patina Glimmer Mist - Tattered Angels was the perfect shade to partner with her beautiful dress.   I spritzed multiple layers of tissue paper to create a soft background.

The cardstock and tissue paper are sprayed with glimmer mist.  After the they dried I attached the layers of tissue paper onto the cardstock using tape.  I then brushed white acrylic paint over the edges and across the surface.

I added a twist of twine around the edges and added touches of flowers, leaves and seashells to provide a layer of texture and softness.

Can you see the tissue paper and shells peeking out?

To finish off the layout I added a little lock and key with a heart shape in the corner.  I left room for my journal / notes in the center.

Products: Prima (Laraine,Tasha). Patina Glimmer Mist - Tattered Angels,   My Mind's Eye - On the Bright Side     Adirondack Snow Cap Paint Dabber
