Scraps and Challenges

Hi!  I feel like I haven't had any creative time lately.  I have been busy with life, work and responsibilities and mostly the creative urge wasn't pushing me to create.

I decided today to jumpstart that with a few leftover scraps and pieces created previously.  I also used the following challenges to get me going:  Mixed Media Place May challenge has a beautiful mood board which had the colors going for me.  Mixed Media World: May Challenge is Glam Grunge which I hope this qualifies as the glam is there and a bit of the grunge. Finally the Anything but Cute Challenge is celebrating your style.  I am a mixed bag of styles  but I do love my butterflies and flourishes.

I started with this beautiful butterfly which I made awhile ago and set aside.  I also found a lovely scrap stamped with antique linen and it worked with the butterfly.  I then sprinkled the same lovely glimmer mist onto the stamped background.  Created a base to match and stamped more texture in a gold ink.

I heat embossed the black frame on the background using black embossing powder.  I edged the flower with gold ink and placed it in the center. I finished with the word shine to go with the theme on the moodboard.

Thanks for sticking with me during my absence.

Hope

I had time this weekend to play a little and was inspired by the Mixed Media Place Dream March Challenge.
I created a journal page with the soft blues, and pink colors.
Here is the inspiration board:

New Beginnings

Hi!  I spent some time creating with some new goodies from Canvas Corp Brands for the Anything But Cute Challenge - Ring out the old and bring in the new and the Mixed Media Place - New Beginnings challenge.

I recently received some new paints from the Tattered Angels and I wanted to play around with them along with my glimmer mist.  I followed the them of new beginnings with the inspirational words from a series of Stampendous stamp sets.

I started with a background with a stencil and the Tattered Angels glimmer mist.  I then came back in and used stencils and circles to create a series of circles painted and outlined with colored pencil.

I stamped the text using black ink over the background.  I used the remainder of the background to create a series of stars. I cut them out and stamped inspirational sayings.

Christmas ATC's

Hi!  I am mixing up some ATC's today using the Basically Bare Mixed Media Cards.    I used the beautiful colors from Words & Paintery's November Challenge and the Mixed Media Place Creative Gym #14 - Christmas Challenge.

I am sharing one of my  Atc's and will share more later. I played with the multiple layers of texture and black gesso to make a striking backdrop to my fancy buck with his shimmery antlers.

I spent some time building many layers of texture with wooden snowflakes and sequins glued to the background which then was coated in black gesso. I then added metallic blue/teal paint as well as silver paint over the black background.  Then came a mix of stampendous Silver Luxe  Mix glued along in areas.

I added star gems painted to silver and the stamped image with his shimmery antlers.  The twinkle twinkle is from chit chat stickers.

Intuitive Painting

Happy Saturday to you... I spent a good part of this morning playing with paint.  The Mixed Media Place has Creative Gym challenges and exercise #4 is to try intuitive painting.  This is easy to do but requires letting go and just painting which turns out was harder for me than I thought.

I loved my backgrounds but struggled with the second part which was to identify shapes and turn them into things.  I ended up with a few that I really loved and had a few flops.

I'll start with one that surprised me when I finished it as I really liked what I doodled.
I started with a mix of paints on my craft mat and added a bit of water to make it blend.  I then laid the paper down and picked up a few different tags on Mixed Media paper.  When that was done I splattered green paint onto the surface.

I looked at the to blotches of orange and thought i will try drawing a few flowers on the splotches.  I liked them but hen there was all that space...  I started circling the tiny green specks and the other spindly flowers became a garden which made the whole thing work.  I then went into my Verses Rubber stamps to find sentiments.

I cut the ends off of my tag and left it in a shape that I can put on a card.

This was a very structured paint approach I dragged the paint down the tag in stripes of colors and added circles.  When it was finished and dried I decided to stamp some of my DarkRoom Door stamps on the tag and add another sentiment that doesn't get used very often.

Next up a very simple scene.
I saw a skyline and a path coming towards me.  I outlined it with a black micron and stamped the sentiment along the bottom.  The bottom tore as I was cutting it and I decided to tear the bottom.

I saw a bird in the big blotch of blue with a orange head.  I decided to draw a bird with his wings slightly spread as if preparing for flight.  I decided to add the music because the birds are always singing.

Lastly I just pulled a butterfly stamp and added it to the beautiful painted background.

And one of my backgrounds waiting for inspiration. I actually see a wing shape in this and maybe I will try to hand draw one onto the paper.

A very fun creative and relaxing day.  A good way to spend time getting my mojo kick started!
