Now and Forever

Deedee's Digis is sponsoring this week's Fan-tastic Tuesday Challenge #79 which is to make a wedding card.  My niece got married last Saturday and loves purple.  I used Deedee's Digis Now and Forever set to make a quick card for the new Mr. & Mrs.  This set has four great images in 3 formats, and 8 sentiments.  It's perfect for all your wedding card needs.

For the front of my card, I colored the cake with Copics to have purple flowers and ribbons.  After die cutting it with a square die, I matted it a couple times before adhering it to a 4" square card base.  Stickles were added to the flowers for some sparkle.

Since we were enclosing a gift card, I kept the card fairly flat so that it would mail easily.

The interior uses another image from the set as well as one of the images.  The image was colored with Copics.  This is a simple little card but I think it also has a very elegant look.

Supplies:
Cardstock:  Paper Trey Ink (white), Bazzill (purple)
Digi Stamp Set:  Deedee's Digis (Now and Forever)
Copic Markers: V000, 01, 04, 06, 09; N0, 1, 3; YG03, 05; Colorless Blender
Tools/Embellishments:  Spellbinders dies (Classic Squares Large and Small), Stickles (Star Dust)

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Crop Stop Linky Party #2 - Use something from the Crop Stop Store (I used Star Dust Stickles)

Thanks for visiting with me today.  I hope you'll be able to play along in the Fan-tastic Tuesday Challenge and have an opportunity to win some free Deedee's Digis.  I'll be back tomorrow with another way you could win some free digis from Deedee's Digis.

Special Wedding Project

A couple months ago, a couple in our church asked me to help them with a special project for their wedding.  The groom's mother had passed away and they wanted the ringbearer to carry her Bible instead of a pillow.  The problem with this is that her Bible had seen a lot of wear and was going to be carried by a 2 year old.  Their main requests were that I do something that would help the Bible look better, be more practical for a little guy to carry, and that the rings be tied onto it somehow.  They decided not to have their actual wedding rings attached to the Bible so we used their purity rings instead.

Here is a before look at the Bible:

Here is the after:

I didn't want to attach anything permanent to such a treasure.  I went back to my childhood days and made a book cover like we used to do in grade school. Because the edges of the Bible curled down over the pages, I made the cover bigger to allow for them to be flattened out and reinforced the front and back covers with chipboard.    His mom, like many of us, kept some special items between the pages of her Bible.  I didn't want them to get lost during the wedding so I made little vellum envelopes and slipped them in the flaps of the front and back covers.  The ribbon was tied package-style around the Bible to help hold everything together and to give it more stability.

As it turned out, the ringbearer got sick and wasn't able to participate in the wedding.  So, a Plan B was arranged.  The Bible, a candle and a picture of the groom's mom were displayed on the top of the piano.  This was such a great way to include her memory in such a special day.  What was of the utmost importance to me...the bridal couple was pleased with how the project turned out.  :)

Supplies:
Papers:  The Paper Studio
Ribbons/Trims:  Offray
Pearl button and pearl strips:  The Paper Studio
Chipboard from my stash
Rings:  The bride and groom's purity rings

I'm entering this project in the following challenges:
Crafty Ribbons Challenge #111:  Anything But a Card
Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge #212 - Anything Goes
Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge - Optional Twist - Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Anything Goes
Crafty Creations Challenges #281 - Something Old/Something New (the Bible and ribbons are old, and the papers and lace trim are new)

I appreciate you taking time out of your day to visit.  Thanks!  I hope the rest of your week goes well.  The weekend is in sight!! Yay!!!

Once in a While.....

I wanted to do a quick post today to share a wedding card.  It's a 6" square gate-fold card and pretty CAS (at least it's my version of CAS).  I think it turned out simple but elegant.  The pearlized cardstock doesn't show up well in the picture but has a nice, subtle sheen IRL.

This is a rare card for me because I didn't use any patterned papers -- just 3 different cardstocks.  Navy for the card base, embossed panels and matting, pearlized cardstock for matting and the floral oval and cream colored cardstock for the sentiment.

The sentiment was stamped, die-cut and them accented with small pearls before being matted on a larger oval and then a floral oval.  the floral oval was also accented with pearls.  The embossed panels have ribbon and pearl embellishments.  The sentiment panel is popped up on the left "gate" with pop dots.

Supplies:
Cardstock:  Bazzill (navy), Core'dinations (pearlized), The Paper Studio (cream)
Ink:  Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Stamp: Stampabilities
Embellishments/Tools:  pearls (Stampin' Up), Spellbinders (Petite ovals Large & Small, Floral Ovals), ribbon (Offray), Cuttlebug embossing folder (Textile Textures)

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Terrifically Thrilling Thursday (Shelly's Images) - Anything Goes
LEJ Designs #54 - Diecuts or Punches
Whimsy Stamps Inspiration Challenge #59 - Anything Goes
Crafty Ribbons Challenge #46 - Anything Goes with ribbon
2 Sister Challenge #144 - 1-2-3 (1 sentiment, 2 colors, 3 ovals)
Sentimental Sunday #155 - CAS
Scrap Creations - Wedding/Anniversary/Graduation
Twist of Faith Challenge #38 - On the Square (use squares/square card)

Thanks for stopping by today.

Wedding Projects

I wanted to share a couple of the non-card projects I did for our daughter's wedding.  I have a few cards I'll share in future blog posts.

Favors

Several times during Kendra's college years, I made sour cream containers and filled them with candy as gifts for some of her friends (you can see some of my past ones here, here, and here.  When we were thinking of what to do for favors, she requested I make them again.  When our daughter flew out to meet the rest of Sam's family on Christmas break 2011, they toured the Jelly Belly factory.  Remembering the fun she had on that visit, we decided to fill the containers with Jelly Bellies.  She picked two sets of papers and two stamps so that we could have two versions.

Grandparents Memorial

As I mentioned in my post about the album I made for her, Kendra had a display in memory of the grandparents who have already passed away.  I made signs to go in front of the picture frames to let the guests know what Sam & Kendra called their grandparents and what their names were.

I used the technique I learned on the tent cards to make sure the signs wouldn't flop over.

Kendra wanted me to make her some simple thank you cards that they could use for send in appreciate for wedding gifts they received.  I still have quite a few to make but here is a sampling of what I have done so far.  Kendra found a 6 x 6 paper pad that she liked and I'm using it as my starting point.

As promised here are a couple wedding day pics:

Kendra had my husband face the back of the auditorium and walked up behind him.  She then said, "OK, Dad, you can turn around now."  This is his first look at her in her wedding finery.  Yes, he did cry.  :)

The weather was unseasonably cool so we got Kendra a wrap to wear at the reception.

The new Mr. & Mrs.

On their one week anniversary, a second reception was held for them in CA at Sam's home church.  Here's a pic of the newlyweds.  By the smiles, I'd say marriage agrees with them.

Thanks for stopping by.

Preserving Family Memories

When Spellbinders Paper Arts reaches a new 1000 "likes" on their Facebook page, they sometimes pick one of their followers to do a guest blog post on their Spellbinders Paper Arts Blog.  I was thrilled (what an understatement!!) to be asked to be a guest blogger for today.  What an honor!!

When I was told that this week’s theme is Preserving Family Memories, I was pretty excited.  Our daughter, Kendra, is getting married this Saturday and this sentimental mama has lots of memories on her mind. To make getting to share on the blog even more special, my project is for our daughter and today is her birthday.  Our sweet baby girl is now a beautiful young woman and on Saturday, will become "her Samuel's" wife.  Truly....

At the wedding, Kendra is having a memorial table displaying pictures of the grandparents of the bridal couple that have already passed away.  After the wedding, I’m guessing she’ll want to use the frames from the display table to showcase wedding pictures.  I decided to make her an album to hold the pictures from the memorial table as well as pictures of those grandparents that are still living.
Here are a couple pictures of the album.  You can find more pictures and full how-to details on the Spellbinders Blog.

Supplies:
Cardstock:  The Paper Studio (black, cream), Wassau (green marbled), Recollections (cream)
Patterned Paper:  The Paper Studio (Gold Vintage Damask, Old Postcards)
Stamp:  Momenta
Ink: Memento (Rich Cocoa, Toffee Crunch)
Embellishments/Tools: ribbon (KaiserKraft), trim (Hobby Lobby), rub-on (Stemma), Spellbinders (Classic Ovals Small, Classic Circles Large & Small, Classic Squares Small, Lacey Squares, Lacey Circles, Decorative Photo Corners, Fancy Tags 3, Classic Edges 2, Classic Decorative Edges 5, Labels Four, Labels Four Small), pearls (Want2Scrap)
I'm linking this project up at WordArt Wednesday  and at the Spark Your Creativity Challenge #9 this week.
Thanks for stopping by today.  If you think of us, please pray that we have nice weather Saturday (the reception is outdoors) and that everyone stays well for the wedding (if you know our family, you know that is not something taken for granted).

Flower Cake - SNSDC67

This week's challenge at the Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Challenge Blog is to use 3-D flowers as an embellishment.  This can be a layered digi stamp flower, a paper flower you made from dies, or any other type of flower that has dimension.

I chose to add some Prima flowers to the Flower Cake digi stamp.  After coloring the image with Copics, I cut it out with Spellbinders Nestabilities.  I double matted the image panel.  Then, using a 1/16" hole punch, I punched a hole through the center of each of the flowers on the top of the cake.  The prima flowers I used have stems so I pushed them stems thru the holes in the stamped flowers and taped the stems to the back of the image. I popped the image up on pop dots. I chose not to put a sentiment on the card so that I can use it later as either a special birthday card, a bridal shower card or even a wedding card.  I love options!!  :)

I did a little interior decorating as well.

Supplies:
Cardstock:  Georgia Pacific (white), Recollections (teal, pink)
Patterned Paper:  SU
Stamp:  Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Stamp (Flower Cake)
Embellishments/Tools:  Flowers (Prima), Bling Flourish (Recollections), Copic Markers, Fiskars Threading Waters border punch, Spellbinders Nestabilities (Petite Ovals large and small, Petite Scalloped Ovals large), Ribbon (Michael's), Zutter Round-it-All 1/2", 1/16" hole punch (brand unknown)

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Tuesday Throwdown #111 - Sweet Treats
Paper Pretties Monday Challenge #52 (PPMC52) - Anything Goes
Paper Pretties Wednesday Challenge #219 (PWC219) - Square Cards
Divas by Design #48 - sketch
Papertake Weekly - Spots or Stripes (my cake has stripes and there are dots in the patterned paper)
52 Card Pickup #33 - Make a card

My big accomplishment for the week was getting my scrap space organized!  Whew!  What a job!  However, it is so much easier to work in the new space because there's more room to spread out as I'm working.  I'll try to post a few pics soon.  Except for hanging some pictures, I *think* we're unpacked.  Yippie!!

Thanks for stopping by today.
