Our Friday Friend Pam

It's been so fun lately searching the SCS gallery for Our Friday Friends. So many cute creations and we just love seeing what each of you make with your TE stamps and Key Ingredients kits! Please remember to use keyword tayloredexpressions (NO SPACE) whenever you upload so we can find you!

This week two Wings of Joy creations by the same stamper jumped out at us and we're excited to have Pam Varnell as Our Friday Friend today. You might know her as stampingpam on SCS. You can see her Wings of Joy cards here and here. Super cute, huh? We asked Pam to sample Taylor's sketch today and here it is. Click on the photo to see it larger and visit Pam's blog The Stamping Addict for more details.

Let's get to know a little bit about Pam:

--What city/state do you live in?
Ringgold, GA

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?
I got addicted to papercrafts when I was asked by a cousin to go to a local scrapbooking store for a crop. Crop, what was a Crop. It took me just one night to get hooked. That was in 2001. I started stamping after going to my first SU party 2 years later in 2003. Been addicted to stamping ever since.

--How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?
I love bright, bold colors and I would describe my style as "funky". I love to make cards more than any project I know.

--Do you have a favorite TE image?
My favorite TE image is the "Joy" image from the set Wings of Joy.

--What is your favorite sweet treat?
Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate, particularly ice cream.

Thank you Pam for being Our Friday Friend!

I hope you all have a sweet weekend! Be sure to hop over to Taylor's blog to see the sketch and play along!

Our Friday Friend Sunghee

Happy Friday! Have you seen the news on Taylor's Blog about the search for some new members of the Sketch Crew? If you're interested in being considered be sure to check out the deets and get a card submitted!

It's time to introduce you to Our Friday Friend. When we saw her pirate ship creation, we were blown away so we asked her to create a sample for today's TESC86 also. Please welcome Sunghee! You can see more views of her cuppie pirate ship in her blog post as well as get info on how she created it. In the meantime, let's learn a little about Sunghee.

--What city/state do you live in?
McLean, VA. It's very close to Washington D.C.

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?
I’ve always adored paper crafting, but the real addiction started in spring2008. I attended a Stampin’ Up! make-n-take for the first time, and I was hooked. I’ve been stamping about a year and a half.

--How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?
Silly and colorful. I do a lot of Mini albums, and 3-D projects like favorboxes. But I LOVE working with my kids’ goofy, I mean cute photos the most.

--Do you have a favorite TE image?
I love all Cuppies! They are so addictive!

--What is your favorite sweet treat?
I put 3-4 scoops of Vanilla ice cream AND chocolate syrup in my coffeeevery morning. No wonder my coffee is always cold, hmmm. But, it’s sooooyummy~!

Learn more about Sunghee's sketch sample on her blog Creativity in Progress.

Thank you Sunghee for being Our Friday Friend!

What about you? Would you like to be Our Friday Friend? All you have to do is upload your creations featuring Taylored Expressions stamps to your gallery at SplitCoastStampers and remember to use our keyword tayloredexpressions (NO SPACE) to be considered.

Our Friday Friend Lisa

Happy Friday! Here at Taylored Expressions we're gearing up for the next big release in just over a week, with sneak peeks beginning next Thursday. Saturday, September 5th is Release Day and you'll want to tune in right here to the SASI Blog where we have a huge party planned to celebrate the 1st Birthday of Cuppie and TE Stamps. We'll have lots of fun challenges and prizes galore, so mark your calendars and plan to play!

Today we want to introduce you to Our Friday Friend Lisa Hjulberg (known on SCS as TheCraft’sMeow). Lisa's yummy cherry card jumped out of the gallery at us and we're excited to have her play along in Taylor's Sketch Challenge this week. We asked Lisa a few questions to get to know her better. Lisa's card today features Beary Special (partial proceeds from this set will be donated to the Sick Kids Foundation if purchased by August 31st) and you can read more about this card on Lisa's blog The Craft's Meow. If you'd like to play along with today's sketch challenge you can get all the details on Taylor's blog.

--What city/state do you live in?

Riverside, California (our city’s claim to fame is that we are an hour from the beach, the mountains and the desert; Riverside is about 60 miles east of Los Angeles and 60 miles west of Palm Springs)

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?

I first became addicted to scrapbooking when a friend asked me to host a Creative Memories workshop about 10 years ago. I was immediately smitten. Not long afterwards, my nail lady had a Stampin’ Up catalog at her station one day when I was getting my nails done. The moment I started flipping through that book, I was hooked without ever having inked up a stamp! I became a Stampin Up Demonstrator 6 years ago, mainly as a hobbiest. My passion for stamping has grown stronger every year. I still scrapbook, but I spend most of my crafting time stamping.

--How would you describe your style? What are your favorite projects to create?

I’m not sure how to describe my style. I gravitate mainly towards whimsical outline images that I can color, and I tend to use lots of color. I love colors, especially deep or vibrant colors, and a clean look. My favorite stamped projects are cards.

--Do you have a favorite TE image?

That’s a hard one because I truly love them all! But if I had to narrow it down, I’d have to say the Whimsical Wishes line has got me hooked, especially Berries & Cherries and Branching Out (and Coordinates). I have nearly all of the sets in this stamp line. I’m also totally hooked on the Key Ingredients Kits. They make it so easy to create a beautiful card in no time, and the value is awesome!

--What is your favorite sweet treat?

My favorite sweet treat is ice cream… usually a scoop of strawberry and a scoop of chocolate. Yum
Thank you Lisa for being Our Friday Friend!
What about you? Would you like to be featured here as Our Friday Friend? To be considered simply upload your TE creations to your gallery at SplitCoastStampers using the keyword tayloredexpressions (no spaces). We check the gallery often and we're looking for you! Our Friday Friend Julie

WooHoo! It's Friday and it's been a BIG week at Taylored Expressions. Last Friday marked our biggest release to date with five new stamp sets, 2 new Key Ingredients kits and over 20 other new products in the store. I hope you've had a chance to check it all out and do some shopping! Then on Monday Taylor announced her upcoming move to Iowa where she'll be able to focus on TE full-time! Of course today is Cupcake Friday and time for another awesome TECC sketch from Taylor. As if all that weren't enough, today is Taylor's birthday! Like I said, BIG week at TE!

We've found a wonderful *Our Friday Friend* to help us celebrate this week - please welcome Julie Smith (hobbywoman on SCS). This CAS card in her gallery caught our attention and this week she sampled the TECC72 sketch along with the Cupcake Crew so we could share with you here on the SASI Blog. Julie features For the Love of Cupcakes on today's card (click on it to see it larger.) For details you can hop over to her blog Paper and Such, but first let's get to know a little bit about Julie.

--What city/state do you live in?

I live in New Oxford, PA....which is a small town about 10 miles east of Gettysburg, PA. I've been in this area for about 20 years now, but home will always be Buffalo Mills, PA. Which is a VERY small town about 1-1/2 hrs east of Pittsburgh. I was one of those girls that walked up hill both ways in 4 ft of snow!!

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?

I've been addicted to papercrafts for many years. I've tried my hand at all kinds of hobbies, but I have always been drawn back to stamping. I used to scrapbook, and my life goal is to sometime finish my two sons' scrapbooks. I've been stamping for probably about 15 years on and off, but seriously stamping for about the last 4 years. Although I did my first challenge card on SCS about 3 years ago, and its been a slippery slope ever since. I find myself waking up in the middle of the night thinking about stamping! Sometimes I even get out of bed and make cards very early in the morning!

--How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?

I think my style is clean and simple.....kinda crisp too, with a little of this and a little of that thrown in there. I think my style changes from day to day, depending on what stamps/companies I'm using, and who I'm making the card for. I honestly enjoy making cards. I don't always have time to spend on different projects, so cards are easy for me. Its like instant gratification!

--Do you have a favorite SASI image?

Just one?? Thats a tough one, but I really like the cuppie in bed from the Doctors Orders set. He's so sweet and he's being a good boy while he's getting his temp taken. Plus he's reading a book (which is another hobby of mine).

--What is your favorite sweet treat?

Well, since I'm a diabetic on an insulin pump, I probably shouldn't answer this, but oh what the heck....I'm a real sucker for a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. A co-worker of mine makes the best one I've ever tasted!

Thank you Julie for being Our Friday Friend!

How about you? Would you like to be Our Friday Friend?

If you'd like to be considered for Our Friday Friend all you need to do is upload your TE/SASI/Whimsical Wishes creations to the gallery at SCS and use keyword tayloredexpressions (NO Space). We'd love to see what you are doing with TE stamps!

Want play the Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge (sketch #72) along with us this week? Just hop over to Taylor's blog to see the sketch and get all the details!

Have a sweet weekend!

Happy Friday! Did this week fly by? Gotta love those four day weeks! It's time to introduce you to Our Friday Friend and this time we're going all the way to England! Please welcome Amy Wanford (Aimes on SCS). We saw this card in Amy's SCS gallery and were immediately enchanted. We couldn't wait to ask her to create a card using Taylor's sketch TECC70 to share with you today (to play along in the challenge hop over to Taylor's blog.) And she didn't disapoint! Check out her delightful card (click on it to see it larger) and read our interview with Amy to learn a little more about her.

--What city/state/country do you live in?

I live across the pond in England. I’m originally from heart of the Peak District, from a small market town called Wirksworth, in Derbyshire. However, I now live in the city of Sheffield, though I’m still very close to the Peak District!

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?

I’ve always been into crafts, including papercrafts, ever since I can remember! I have a specific childhood memory of my mum coming home with this HUGE pack of different coloured paper. I was SO excited but so frugal with the stuff, it must have lasted years! (Nothing changes – I’m still a hoarder now!)
My main hobby was and still is drawing/doodling as well as stamping now of course!
I was first introduced to stamping by an old friend of mine who decided to set up a business and own a craft shop about 8 years ago. I popped along to visit one day and the rest, as they say, is history! I purchased a couple of stamps and inks from her shop and attempted to make a few cards (I cringe when I think back to them – I thought they were works of art at the time LOL!)
The last few years have been pretty manic so stamping took a bit of a back seat until very recently. I would say that I’ve only been on the real stamping scene myself for less than a year! My true addiction started with the discovery of SCS and a dear blogging friend of mine Kate. We swapped a few images a while ago, (including some sweet Taylored Expressions images!) and I then felt the need to own some of those stamps myself!
I think I’m well and truly addicted to stamping for the long run now thanks to both Kate and Stephanie (who is another dear stamping friend of mine.) Their passion for stamping, positive words of encouragement and friendship never fails to inspire me!

--How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?

Style…well my style is much like my mood – it changes on a daily basis LOL! One day it’s cute, the next day it’s modern. The only thing that does show quite frequently through my creations is my love for the colour green and birds! I guess my style changes depending on why I’m having an inky session. If I’m making a card for a particular person then I’ll try to adopt a style that I think they’ll appreciate – which I find really hard to do!
I love making cards but when I have the time, I really enjoy making little bags, boxes and treat holders. The part I like best is giving it to the recipient and seeing the smile on their face (and mine!).

--Do you have a favorite SASI image?

This is a toughie because all those cuppies are just so cute! But if I was forced (and I mean forced!) to choose one I think it would have to be the cuppie from the Love Is Sweet set that’s drawing a heart. I think I must relate to it, I love drawing and scarily enough have the same face of concentration when I draw! Though the cuppie that’s just had a smacker on the cheek if very cute too – I love the facial expression and humour! Oh I can’t decide – can I have both please!?

--What is your favorite sweet treat? (feel free to share the recipe if you have one!)

Now I have so many, but I guess that the one that I’d rely on in an emergency would be Gingerbread. I’m no master-chef but I was given a recipe that makes a yummy gingerbread that stays soft and doughy inside. It’s definitely best eaten straight from the oven and dunked into a good cup of tea! If I can bake it, anyone can! Obviously the recipe is written for us across the pond but feel free to try and translate it…not sure what a substitute for Golden Syrup is over there though!
Makes 15 - 20 biscuits

Ingredients
350g plain flour
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
100g butter
175g soft brown sugar
1 egg
4 tbsp Golden Syrup

· 1. Mix together the flour, spices and bicarbonate of soda.
· 2. Rub in the butter until it looks like breadcrumbs.
· 3. Add the sugar.
· 4. In a separate bowl mix together the egg and golden syrup then add to the dry ingredients.
· 5. Mix together until it forms a dough. Tip out onto a clean, floured work surface and knead for a minute or two until it is smooth.
· 6. Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/gas mark 5.
· 7. Roll out the dough to the depth of a pencil (approx 5mm) and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
· 8. Lay the biscuits on a greased baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown
Mmmmmm...sounds yummy! You can hop over to Amy's blog Crafting Confessions to learn more about today's card and see more of her creations. Thank you Amy for being Our Friday Friend!
If you'd like to be considered for Our Friday Friend all you need to do is upload your TE/SASI/Whimsical Wishes creations to the gallery at SCS and use keyword tayloredexpressions (NO Space). We'd love to see what you are doing with TE stamps!
Have a sweet weekend!

Happy Friday! Hope you have a fantastic weekend lined up - perhaps some Mother's Day festivities! This past week a bright and fabulous Fresh Flowers (which is on sale through this Sunday) card knocked our socks off in the gallery at SCS - you can see it here. That card lead us to this week's Our Friday Friend Julia Aston (artystamper on SCS). Julia created yet another wonderful card to share with you here today - this time featuring A Year of Sweets 2.

We asked Julia a few questions so we could all get to know her a bit better.

--What city/state do you live in?
Saugus, MA - which is just 12 miles north of Boston
--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?
My father was an artist and my mother was an elementary school teacher so we were always doing arts and crafts in our house. I've been stamping on and off since I was little. I started with those fun holiday stamps teachers have like the busts of Lincoln and Washington. And I also used to play library using the date stamps! I've been seriously artfully stamping for about 5 years.
--How would you describe your style? What are your favorite projects to create?
I stamp rather simply - with clean lines and not many accessories. It took me a long time just to add more layers! LOL! I'm starting to be more comfortable using ribbons and buttons as you can see by my card here today! I really love paper crafts - particularly boxes, bags and little houses - I have a box full of templates and patterns that I've found while blogging! Now I just need to find the time to make everything I'm excited about!
--Do you have a favorite TE image?
I think it's a tie between the fun window in the Fresh Flowers set and the cute street of shops in the Downtown Diva set - although the little nurse and sick in bed cuppies in the newly released set are awful fun too!!
--What is your favorite sweet treat?
Unfortunately for my waistline, I love all kinds of sweets! but if I had to choose one - I guess it would be a simple soft fudgy brownie - possibly with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce on it!
You'll want to be sure to stop by Julia's blog Create with Me to learn more about today's card and see lots more of her creations!
Thank You Julia for being Our Friday Friend!
And how about you - would you like to be Our Friday Friend?

Our Friday Friend Lynn

The SASI Blog has been bustling lately with lots of darling projects from the Baker's Dozen. We plan to have at least 3 posts a week and sometimes more to share with you. Be sure to subscribe (see the sidebar) so you don't miss a thing! It's time for Our Friday Friend and I couldn't be happier to introduce you to Lynn Mercurio. I bet most of you are familiar with Lynn since she is on the Cupcake Crew (Taylor's Friday Sketch Samplers) plus she's the Monday challenge hostess over on SCS with the Technique Lover's Challenge. Lynn has such a fun style and we just couldn't resist the cupcake tree she created for last week's TECC.

This week Lynn created another card using Branching Out and Branching Our Coordinates - this time featuring a cherry tree and a swinging owl! Too cute! :) We had a little get-to-know-you chat with Lynn and here's what we found out....

--What city/state do you live in?

I live in Maryland Heights, Missouri which is in St. Louis County

--How did you become addicted to paper crafts? How long have you been stamping?

A co-worker introduced me to creative stamping in 2004 and from that time I've been totally addicted. I haven't stopped learning, creating and BUYING!

--How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?

I would call my style "chameleon" because my style changes depending on the occasion and the stamp set I'm using. I go from elegant to whimsical. My very favorite project to create is one where I have a specific purpose and person in mind. Having focus really helps me in the creative process.

--Do you have a favorite SASI image?

Can I say that my favorite is the set that I've purchased last? :) I love all of Taylor's stamps so to pick just one out of the bunch would feel just wrong. lol

--What is your favorite sweet treat? (feel free to share the recipe if you have one!)

My favorite sweet treat is a combination of two snack foods; popcorn and peanut M & Ms. Mix them together and you have the best combination of sweet and salty. This is an especially excellent snack while at the movies, but I have been known to mix up a batch for home movie night!

You'll want to visit Lynn at her blog Stamperosity as well as take a peek at her SCS gallery. Lots to see!

Thanks Lynn for being Our Friday Friend!

And how about you - would you like to be Our Friday Friend?

Our Friday Friend and TOP CHEF!!!

We got so many awesome entries for this round of Top Chef - wow! Thank you so much to everyone who entered! We just love to see what you create with SASI stamps. Taylor had the tough job of picking a winner and we're featuring her here today as both our current Top Chef and Our Friday Friend. So let's hear it for Stephanie Kraft (booga3 on SCS). Congratulations Stephanie! You'll get to choose a FREE stamp set from the upcoming SASI release. (Be sure to read all the way to the end of this post for news on that release *grin*) Below is Stephanie's winning TC entry - an adorable note card set in a coordinating folder. Who wouldn't love to receive this as a gift?

You'll want to visit Stephanie's blog HandKrafted by Stephanie and her SCS gallery, but before you go let's get to know her a little better.

--What city/state do you live in?

I live in Phoenix, Arizona.

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?

I was invited to a home stamp party in late 2003, but I was unable to attend. I was interested in getting back into scrapbooking (I had made a scrapbook in the late 90s of my cat -- pre-marriage and pre-kids!), so I later contacted the demonstrator and asked if I could see a catalog. I went over to her house and she showed me some sample cards and stamps. I told her that I didn't stamp and was only interested in scrapbooking. I took the catalog home and later that night ordered a bunch of stamps and ink. I've been hooked ever since!

--How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?

I would describe my style as clean, simple and somewhat linear. A year ago I would have said my favorite projects are scrapbook pages, but this year I've discovered my love of stamping and creating handmade gifts such as a set of note cards or a stamped mini album. I love that I can combine stamping with both scrapbooking and card making!

--Do you have a favorite SASI image?

I love all of them and can't get enough of the cute cuppies, but my favorite image so far is the snowman from Home Sweet Home. I just adore him!

--What is your favorite sweet treat? (feel free to share the recipe if you have one!)

I love to cook, but I'm not so much of a baker (probably because I don't like to measure!). During the holidays, though, one of my favorite recipes is for Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Cookie Bark. It's part candy (crunchy) and cookie (very yummy!).

Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Cookie Bark
Part cookie, part candy, these shards of crisp dark chocolate chip cookie will delight holiday guests. Instead of peppermint candy, the bark could also be topped with crushed toffee or chopped white chocolate.

Ingredients:
Cookie Base:
1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups (9 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
Topping:
1 1/2 cups (9 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup (about 5 ounces) crushed peppermint candy (crush with a rolling pin into small pieces)

Directions:
Position a rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 350° F. Have ready two baking sheets. Prepare the cookie base. In a medium bowl, stir the flour, baking soda and salt together. Sift the cocoa powder onto the flour mixture and set aside.
In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on low speed, mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, water and vanilla until smooth, about 30 seconds. Stop the mixer and scrape the sides of the bowl as needed during mixing. Add the flour mixture, mixing just until the flour is incorporated. Stir in the chocolate chips.
Leaving a 3-inch border empty on all sides, use a thin metal spatula to spread half of the dough on one baking sheet into a rough rectangle that measures about 11 by 8 inches and is about 1/4 inch thick. Use the palms of your hands to help pat it into an even layer. Repeat with the remaining cookie dough on the second baking sheet.
Bake one baking sheet at a time until the top looks dull, not shiny, and feels evenly firm at the edges and center, about 14 minutes. As soon as each baking sheet comes out of the oven, sprinkle 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips over the cookie slab. Let the chocolate chips sit for 5 minutes to soften and melt, then use a small metal spatula to spread the melted chocolate over the cookie, covering most of the cookie. While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle half the peppermint candy evenly over the slab.
Let the cookie bark cool on the baking sheets on a wire rack until the chocolate topping is firm, about 2 hours. Or, to speed the cooling, cool the cookies on the baking sheets for about 30 minutes then refrigerate them, still on the baking sheets, just until the chocolate topping firms, then remove from the refrigerator. The cookie bark will become crisp as it cools.
Break each cookie slab into about twelve 5- to 6-inch long irregular pieces. The cookies can be stored layered between sheets of wax paper in a tightly covered container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Whoa! That sounds incredibly yummy! Thanks Steph! And congrats again!

Our Friday Friend Carolyn

Even though Taylor is off to celebrate an early Christmas with family in Iowa she has still managed to host Cupcake Friday on her blog today with TECC46. Hop on over and play with the Cupcake Crew! Taylor also managed to find a fantastic SASI stamper to be Our Friday Friend this week! Please welcome Carolyn Mustopa (cmustopa on SCS). You can click here to see Carolyn's gallery at SCS and you can hop over to her blog bklynstamper to see her sweet creations. And now let's get to know Carolyn a little better.

What city/state do you live in?

I live in Brooklyn, New York
How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?

Since childhood I’ve been involved in some kind of craft, from needlepoint to crocheting to quilting to decoupage to table fountain making — and almost everything in between. But when my sister showed me a Stampin’ Up! catalog from a party she’d attended about 6 years ago, I became instantly obsessed (it’s a Scorpio thing) with rubber stamping. I came home from her house that weekend and called Stampin’ Up! Monday morning to find a demonstrator of my own, and then became a demonstrator myself a week after my party. The rest is history.

How would you describe your style?
Hmmm. Anywhere from clean and simple, to simple and elegant. As much as I love to see all of the vintage-y and distressed-looking things my fellow paper crafters create, I’ve never been able to get the knack of doing it myself.

What are you favorite projects to create?

Cards, cards, and more cards. I have so many cards in my house that I could open a store. I really should send more of them out to people! I also love doing wedding-related things, like invitations, favors, etc. On my blog you can see all of the things I did for my older daughter’s wedding last spring.

Do you have a favorite SASI image?

Honestly, I love all of them, but I only own Season’s Sweetings so far. I just love those sweet-looking cupcakes!

What is your favorite sweet treat? (feel free to share the recipe if you have one!)

It should be no surprise at all: cupcakes! However, my obsession (yup!) with them is relatively recent. Like most mommies, I baked my share when the kids were young, but I didn’t think much about them again until my youngest daughter suggested that we use cupcakes as both centerpieces and favors for my older daughter’s bridal shower. I baked 8 dozen, and one of the bridesmaids baked several dozen more. I thought for sure that when it was all over I’d never want to see another cupcake again, but just the opposite happened!

I confess, I often use a boxed mix for my cupcakes, but here’s my favorite recipe for cream cheese frosting (courtesy of same younger daughter):

Super-Simple Cream Cheese Frosting
1 - 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened1 - stick unsalted butter, softened2 - tsp. vanilla extract1 - 1 lb. box confectioners sugar In mixer with paddle attachment, beat first 3 ingredients until very well blended. Gradually add the sugar and beat at medium for a few minutes until it is all smooth and light and fluffy. Yum!!!
Thank you Carolyn for being Our Friday Friend!
There are lots of opportunities for SASI stampers right now! Today is the last day to get your Top Chef entries e-mailed in to Taylor. You have until Monday to upload to SCS to be entered to win the SASI Holiday Blitz. And of course you could be Our Friday Friend anytime! You get stamping ladies!
Have a sweet day!

Happy Cupcake Friday! Please help us welcome this week's Our Friday Friend - Carolina Buchting (craftycaro on SCS). You'll want to hop over to her blog Carolina's Creative Pad (as soon as we saw her byline *fueled by coffee & cupcakes* we knew she was a girl after our own hearts!) and her SCS gallery for some sweet eye candy! But before you do, let's get to know Carolina a little better....

Where do you live?
I live in San Jose, California

How did you become addicted to papercrafts?
At a very young age...huge influence where my grandmothers who encouraged my love for crafting.

How long have you been stamping?
I would say that for the last five years I try to stamp on a daily basis; but I had my first collection of stamps at the age of 8 and used to, actually still do, make cards and paper treats for friends and family.

How would you describe your style?
I think it depends on my mood and the set I'm using. Ribbon is for sure a must embellishment for me so you'll pretty much always see that on my cards and projects.

What are you favorite projects to create?
Altered items. I love to turn ordinary things into something completely different...it's like that old saying, "One person's trash is someone else's treasure!"

Do you have a favorite SASI image?
Ohhh, hard one...it used to be the little witch from the Trick or Sweet set but since my creative energy is geared towards Christmas right now I would have to say the snowman cupcake from the Home Sweet Home set.

What is your favorite sweet treat?
Oh but a cupcake of course and a little java to go with it is just the perfect treat!

Thank you Carolina for being Our Friday Friend!!!

And how about you - would you like to be Our Friday Friend?

What city/state do you live in?
I live in San Diego, CA

How did you become addicted to papercrafts?
It all started last year when I was visiting my mom to figure out how to make my wedding reception invitations. I was going through her crafty magazines looking for ideas and I thought "Hey, I can do this! "

How long have you been stamping?
1 year

How would you describe your style?
I gravitate towards straight/clean lines and minimal layers. I love white card bases!

My favorite SASI image is the cat cupcake from the Trick or Sweet set. As soon as I saw it I had to have it!

1/2 cup shortening
2 large eggs
1/2 tsp salt
3 large RIPE mashed bananas

Our Friday Friend Laura

Happy Cupcake Friday! You know what that means :) ! It's time for another Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge over on Taylor's blog (click over to play!) and it's time to introduce you to Our Friday Friend. Let's have a big round of applause for Laura Leonard (lleonard on SCS). Laura is a very enthusiastic SASI stamper and her recent creations really caught Taylor's eye. You can check out her SCS gallery here and be sure to hop over to her blog Lu-La's Corner and scroll down to see a very young SASI stamper in the making. That's what we like to see!

Not only did Laura grant us a sweet interview, but she decided to create some brand new projects to share with our SASI readers on the blog today. So check out her adorable pail filled with yummy candy cane tootsie pops and her fun Winter picture frame while you also enjoy a little get-to-know-you time.

1) What city/state do you live in?
I live in Plainfield, Illinois which is about 35 miles Southwest of Chi-Town (Chicago). GO BEARS!!!

2) How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?
About two and a half years ago I was desperate to find a hobby; something to do for "me". With a husband, two daughters, and a full-time job outside of the home, it was a MUST. I kept hearing my girlfriend Michele talk about going to "stamp camp" every month and finally decided to ask if I could join her. Well, as most of you know, the rest was history...LOL! I became addicted immediately and have been stamping ever since.

3) How would you describe your style? What are your favorite projects to create?
Ya know, I don't think I've ever really given my style any thought until this question...LOL! I would have to go with cutesy and I love using bright colors. I've never really created a lot of projects; I've always just been into making cards. I do, however, like to make anything that can hold a small gift. And, with the holidays upon us (and money tight), I hope to experiment a little bit more with that.

4) Do you have a favorite SASI image?
That's like asking if I have a favorite child...LOL? This is a REALLY hard question to answer, but if I HAD to choose one favorite SASI image it would have to be the cupcake on the ladder blowing out the candles from the Sweet Celebration set.

5) What is your favorite sweet treat?
I would have to say that my favorite sweet treat is Tiramisu. Since I'm not really a "baker", I am sharing a very easy Tiramisu recipe.

Simple Tiramisu
(recipe from http://www.allrecipes.com/)
Ingredients
· 16 ladyfingers
· 2/3 cup strong brewed coffee, room temperature
· 1/3 cup maple syrup
· 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
· 1/2 cup sour cream
· 1/2 cup maple syrup
· 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
· 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting

Directions
Split ladyfingers lengthwise and use them to line the bottom and sides of an 8x8 inch dish. Stir together coffee and 1/3 cup maple syrup until smooth. Spoon mixture over ladyfingers.
In a large bowl, beat together cream cheese, sour cream and 1/2 cup maple syrup until smooth. Fold in whipped topping. Spread mixture over soaked ladyfingers. Cover and chill 15 minutes.
Dust with sifted cocoa just before serving.
Thanks Laura for the yummy recipe and the yummy creations!

Our Friday Friend

It's Friday! And that means it's time to introduce you to another awesome SASI stamper. Our Friday Friend this week is Alex Maldonado (InkyFairy on SCS)!

I've been mesmerized by Alex's beautiful SASI creations recently! Her gorgeous coloring and sponging create such a rich look with the SASI images. You can check out more of her work (and leave her some comments!) on her blog: Fairy Blossoms.

Here's her get-to-know-you interview:

What city/state do you live in?

The coolest place on earth!! New Yawk of course :)

How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?

I started scrapbooking almost 9 yrs. ago, because I wanted to make a baby book for my son. I spent most of my free time scrapbooking and had no idea what rubber stamps were until I took a class where an instructor made a layout using a Stampin' Up! stamp and I was hooked! I ran home and searched the web for a demo. The next day I had a catalog in my hot little hands, and well, that was JUST the beginning of the end :) I was thrilled to find something that makes me happy, has introduced me to so many amazing people, and is just so fun!! I just can't see myself ever NOT stamping! (incidentally, I should mention the famous "baby book" is still not finished! lol.)

How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?

I think my style definitely leans towards cutesy, but I absolutely love incorporating distressing techniques (both for my cards and scrapbooks) and I am a huge fan of playing with colors and different patterns to add a little funk! One of my favorite things to make (other than cards of course) are altered treat containers, it's such a fun way to give a thoughtful little gift that looks beautiful too! --Do you have a favorite SASI image? OMG! I am just in love with them all!! SO hard to pick BUT the little cupcake snowman in Home Sweet Home is absolutely gorgeous. I'm extremely greedy though, I must confess I can't wait to see more new sets! :)

What is your favorite sweet treat? (feel free to share the recipe if you have one!)

My favorite sweet treat? well that's easy!! Cupcakes! I love the fact that they're so small and just SO cute! This is one recipe that's always a big hit in my house, and they're great for parties because they're very festive and yummy too!

Piña Colada Cupcakes

1/4 pound (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1/3 cup pineapple juice
1 tablespoon rum
2 teaspoon vanilla
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup crushed pineapple
1/3 cup shredded coconut

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line cupcake pans with liners.
2. With an electric mixer at medium speed beat together the melted butter, pineapple juice, rum, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. 3. In a separate bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4. With the mixer on low speed, add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture 1/2 cup at a time until combined. Fold in the pineapple and coconut.
5. Fill the cupcake liners three-quarters full. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

Our Friday Friend

It's time to introduce you to another fantastic SASI stamper! This week Our Friday Friend is Jennifer Hollett better to known to many of her friends as Otter (otter005 on SCS). Her cute little M&M's tins will make such great Christmas gifts and favors!

Visit Otter's Gallery and her Blog I Otter Be Stamping! and leave her a comment or two!

And here's our little get-to-know-you interview:

--What city/state do you live in?
Pataskala, Ohio. A little town just East of Columbus

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?
I started Stamping about six years ago. I was invited to a SU! party, by a co-worker and walked out $300 lighter!! Yes $300! I can honestly say "I have not BOUGHT a card in six years!" I've grow up in a crafty family. My parents did craft shows for as long as I can remember. So it was only a matter of time before I found my own little niche of the crafting world.

--How would you describe your style? What are you favorite projects to create?
I am a VERY simple stamper. I like straight, clean lines, not a lot of layers. I typically go for cutesy images, which is why I was drawn to SASI.

--Do you have a favorite SASI image?
I originally saw Jessie's artwork via Bakerella's Blog, loved it there, and literally screamed out loud when Taylor gave us the first sneak peak of SASI stamps!! "So far" (notice the quotation marks) my favorite is Holly, but "Edward" (that's what I call him, and you Twilight readers will know who I am talking about) is a close second!!

--What is your favorite sweet treat? (feel free to share the recipe if you have one!)
My mom makes the best fudge! It is a hard sugary fudge, not the soft type.

Chocolate Fudge

2 squares baking chocolate
2/3 cup milk
2 cups sugar
2 Tlbs butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
salt

Melt two squares baking chocolate and 2/3 cup milk over low heat until the milk turns chocolaty. Add two cups sugar, and a dash of salt. Boil this to a Soft Ball stage. Remove from heat, add two tablespoons of butter and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, stir until dull.Pour into a jellyroll pan that has been greased with butter. Allow to cool. Slice when cool.

THANK YOU JENNIFER FOR BEING OUR FRIDAY FRIEND!!!!

Our First Friday Friend

Happy Halloween! We are so excited to introduce a new weekly feature at SASI - Our Friday Friend. We look forward to showcasing many of you SASI stampers in the coming weeks. And for the very first Our Friday Friend the honor goes to Rachel Sztonyk, gingerbread-gal on SCS. Her delectable screen name may have given her a bit of an advantage with the sweet-toothed SASI team, but ultimately it was her Trick or Sweet gift bag and display of handmade chocolates that won us over. Not only is the bag (using Bakers Dozen member Jen del Muro's sketch) adorable, but I mean, handmade chocolates...hello? How do you get past that?

Rachel's SCS gallery is filled with darling creations - check it out here. And you'll also want to hop on over to her blog gingerbread gallery (very clever name!) and show her some love!

Taylor conducted a little interview with Rachel so we could all get to know her better.

--What city/state do you live in?

La Habra, California

--How did you become addicted to papercrafts? How long have you been stamping?

I became addicted to papercrafts when my friend invited me a Stampin' Up! Workshop. I saw the demo and wanted it ALL! I have been stamping for about 5 years now and loving it!

--How would you describe your style? What are your favorite projects to create?

I would describe my style as cutesy and that is why I am so drawn to Stamp a Sweet Impression Stamps. All the images are so CUTE! My favorite projects to create are treat bags and boxes. My mom started me off making treat bags on every holiday for classmates since as far back as I can remember. I am still doing this today for friends, family and co-workers. I am so excited because I get to pass out Halloween goodies today!

--Do you have a favorite SASI image?

This is a tough question! Can I pick 2? I would definitely have to say the Gingerbread House from the Home Sweet Home set because I couldn't be a Gingerbread Gal without that as a choice. I would also have to pick the Cuppy image with the tongue sticking out from the Sweet Celebration set as my other choice. I often do the same thing when I am stamping, so it just cracks me up!

--What is your favorite sweet treat? (feel free to share the recipe if you have one!)

My favorite sweet treat is Peppermint Bark. I hand this out every year for Christmas. The recipe is simple and sweet. The best part is that it is so fast to make and also a big hit with everyone.

Peppermint Bark:

Ingredients: Guittard Melt n Mold Chocolate (Vanilla) 12oz. bag and Peppermint Candies

Recipe: Place a sheet of wax paper over a cookie sheet. Double bag a Ziploc bag, add unwrapped Peppermint Candies and close. Place a paper plate underneath the bag and crush Peppermint Candy filled bag with a hammer. I like my pieces small, so I keep hammering until my pieces are to the size I like. Melt Chocolate in a microwave safe bowl as directed on packaging. Once the chocolate is melted add scoops of crushed peppermint to your taste and stir. Now spread the chocolate mixture evenly over the sheet of wax paper and place in the fridge. It will only take about 5 to 10 minutes for your chocolate to set. Once set you can just break apart the sheet of chocolate into pieces and there you have it ~ instant Peppermint Bark!

--What is your favorite Halloween costume that you've worn?

My favorite costume would have to be the Bumble Bee Costume my mom made for me when I was 3 years old. It had a huge stinger that looked like a big carrot. LOL!

Thanks so much Rachel for being Our Friday Friend and for sharing a bit of yourself with us today!

And how about you - would you like to be Our Friday Friend? Enter to Win SASI Sweet Treats!

TE/SASI is buzzing with excitement as we prepare to release THREE NEW STAMP SETS and a new Key Ingredients Kit next Friday! Today I have a couple of fun announcements plus a card to share with you.

The first announcement is a new feature here on the SASI blog beginning on Halloween and continuing every Friday after that. It's called Our Friday Friend. Each week Taylor will scour the Taylored Expressions Company Gallery at SCS for recent uploads (within the past 10 days) in search of a SASI Stamper to be featured on this blog.

To be considered all you have to do is:
  • Create something (card, 3D item, scrapbook page, anything) using one or more images from any SASI stamp set. Your creation should showcase SASI, but does not have to be exclusive to SASI.

  • Upload your creation to SCS being sure to use the keyword SASI so it will appear in the Taylored Expressions Company Gallery (which is driven by a keyword search) and complete the recipe section of the upload.

  • In the description field of your upload please mention Stamp a Sweet Impression stamps are from http://www.tayloredexpressions.com/

Super simple - pretty much just have fun stamping and upload what you make so we can see it! If you are chosen, Taylor will send you an e-mail or PM asking if you'd like to be featured and requesting permission to post one or more of your creations here as Our Friday Friend. We will include a link to your SCS Member Gallery and to your blog if you have one (note: a blog is not required to qualify for this feature.) So who will be the first Our Friday Friend? Will it be you?

I have a fun Halloween card to share with you today featuring one of my very favorite costumed cuppies from Trick or Sweet - the mummy! The orange, purple, and green cardstock are all from the TE Halloween Key Ingredients pack, along with the green brads. The sentiment was stamped on Neenah Classic Solar White cardstock and the words were highlighted with markers before cutting and embossing the panel with rectangle Nestabilities. The entire panel was covered with Versamark ink and heat embossed with iridescent ice ep - it's super sparkly in person.

I took the tiny Ghost from Frightful Night and stamped him in Versamark all over the olive panel to create a subtle background. The jack-o-lantern cuppie was stamped repeatedly on a white panel and colored with Copics. Since I had individually cut all the stars away from the house image in Frightful Night, I arranged them on an acrylic block and stamped them around the jack-o-lanterns in eggplant ink. I love having those separate little stars to play with. The mummy was stamped, colored, cut out and popped up on foam tape to make him the star of the show!

And now it's time for our very first give-away of SASI Sweet Treats (our version of blog candy). Everyone loves a Sweet Treat, right? We've got a fun package offered up today including:

*JustRite Uppercase Outline Pre-Inked Letters (typewriter font)
*4 Brilliance Dew Drops (Gamma Green, Pearlescent Lime, Pearlescent Thyme, Pearlescent Chocolate)
*JustRite 2X Stamper (red hearts, black sentiment)
*Various TE ribbons

To be entered into our goody drawing here's what you need to do:

  1. Subscribe to this blog - either through the Feedblitz option in our sidebar or through your own Google reader. If you had previously done this, you can still play!

2. Leave a comment on this post and tell us you're tuned in to the SASI blog.

Only one comment per person please! Comments on this post will be open until Thursday October 23 at 9:00 pm EST (6:00 pm PST) and the winner will be announced approximately 2 hours later - just prior to the big SASI Christmas Release! Feel free to help spread the word! May the sweetest one win! ;)
