The Sweet Life

Hi everyone!  I enjoyed a more restful day today after a whirlwind weekend!  We celebrated my daughter's 7th birthday!  She wanted crafty but for 6-7 year olds.......it had to be simple!  We colored stickers, made button rings, and made door hangers!  Oh yeah, and made cootie catchers!  I know some of you know what these are if you are **old ** like me!  Now way back when, they weren't called this.  In fact, I don't remember what I called them but I remember makes tons of these and playing with them for hours!  These were the American Girl version!  I'll have to post some pictures in another post of what I'm talking about!  LOL

On to the card I have to share.......The Sweet Life.  Oh goodness.....I've shared here before how I LOVE floral stamps.  And this stamp set is truly beautiful, amazing, and soo easy to use!  Goes back to when I first started stamping........I learned with Stampin' Up......2 step stamping!  I'm playing along with 2 challenges for this card......see below for the details!

For a gracious hostess

I've used some Lavender Sachet, Plum Pudding, and Pure Poppy ink here for my roses.  I just love how this turned out!  This card is going to a very special friend for hosting a Cajun dinner a couple of weeks ago.  I tell you she went all out with the menu!  I had my first mud bugs!  They were delish!!!

Anyway, I digress.  Here are the challenges I'm playing along with:

PDCC and Lil' Inker Designs!

Today I'm here with a card using the cute cute Ccoa Bear image from Lil' Inker Designs and 2 cute ink!  This uses the beautiful holiday challenge over at The Play Date Cafe and it's sponsored by none other than Lil' Inker Designs!  Here is the color story from PDCC..........

Last time you saw this image, Cocoa Bear was totally colored in with Copics.   This time I've combined Copics with paper piecing!  I've forgotten how much I love to do this!  Using the fabulous papers from the Season's Greetings collection by Echo Park, they were the PERFECT match for this color story!

The side border is the Wonky Scallop Border by MFT.  The die cut that Cocoa Bear is sitting on is actually the Mat Stack 3 die cut once and then place back in the die the other way to "cut off" the circular top.  Makes a fun ticket type shape!  Cocoa Bear is also sitting on a grey stamped shadow stamp from the set Warm Happiness by PTI to "ground" him.

I think my favorite parts of this card are the sentiment and that I popped up Cocoa Bear's head for dimension!  I used a sentiment from the Cocoa Bear set but didn't want the whole thing so I just stamped and cut out the words at whatever angles looked good.  Well, I'm off now to do some more wrapping and hopefully some baking for the holiday.  One more day off before I have to work Christmas Eve.  Thanks for stopping by!

{just for you!}
Stamps:  Cocoa Bear (Lil' Inker Designs), Warm Happiness (PTI)
Paper:  Kraft, Vintage Cream (PTI), Season's Greetings DP (Echo Park)
Ink:  Tuxedo Black (Memento), True Black (PTI)
Dies:  Wonky Scallop Border (MFT), Mat Stack 3 (PTI)
Misc:  Janome Sew Mini, Ripe Avocado Button (PTI), Silk Ribbon (PTI), Foam Tape, Copics, Signo Uniball White Pen

Buttons....Buttons....

So are the rest of you following all the PTI anniversary challenges?  Wow!  There are a lot and I've chosen to play along with using buttons in a creative, unique way!  Well since PTI is coming out with their own line of stamps to make button cards, I thought, "hey!  I have some of those".  I scored big this past summer when I found a LOAD of these vintage buttons still on their cards!  This particular button card had 1957 stamped on the back!  So instead of hoarding my supplies (something my friend Jen and I talked about today), I decided to get out some things that I have had since last summer!

The button card:

My card:

Not only did I use my vintage button card find, I made my own paper buttons!  I die cut the smallest Spellbinders circles, punched holes, and threaded the buttons.  I did stamp my buttons with an image from Background Basics: Botanicals.

I don't have the Love Lives Here stamp set YET but I do have the dies and have been itching to use this tiny house.  I masked off the house portion to stamp Haystack Pallette ink for the rooftop.  Then using Background Basics: Text Style to add some text to the house portion.  My house is layered on a Sweet Blush die cut circle from the Love Lives Here dies and then layered further on a Martha Stewart decorative tag.  Everything you see has been shabbied up with Haystack Pallette ink with a sponge.

The colors were inspired by this week's Play Date Cafe challenge for vintage and pink/kraft and also by ColourQ for virtually the same colors......so I am sending this over!  I also stamped on some pattern paper and Dana, from Kismet, Art, and Life, challenged us to do this on over at Do More With Less blog.

PDCC66

Whew!  I'm just about late with this one!  I had very good intentions of making this challenge card before today but hey that's life!  I could not pass up playing along with The Play Date Cafe and their challenge this week........Black. White. + splash of color!!

I inked up this music background set from PTI for the first time!  Love this....going to be a favorite for sure!
This is pretty straight forward CAS card except that I kept trying to add more color and I had to keep reminding myself that 'Amy, it's a splash of color!'  So after having out purple inks and ribbon, I settled on these little rosettes from Michael's.  Just a splash!

Here's the inspiration photo from The Play Date Cafe.  I've also linked  this up over at the Creative Inspirations blog and the Stamptacular Sunday Challenge blog for their challenges too!

PDCC#64 and Card Patterns Sketch 98

Hi everyone!  I'm back today after a long extended weekend due
to Martin Luther King Jr. day.  I was away with my hubby this past weekend
on a short trip to Memphis, Tennessee.  He is heavily involved with St.Jude Hospital
through a radio-athon at the radio station he works for.  He had the
opportunity to spend some time at St.Jude and with some patients to learn
more about what this fantastic organization is all about and what it can offer kids!
I, on the other hand, wasn't able to attend so I did a little sight-seeing while
he was busy with meetings.  I had the opportunity to go to the Civil Rights Museum
there in Memphis.  My goodness.....what a history lesson that was!
This museum is located at the Lorraine Motel where MLK was assassinated and
they have preserved the rooms at the hotel as they would have been that day.
Let's just say that I now have a better understanding of why we celebrate MLK day
here in the US.  If you get the chance, you must go tour this museum there in Memphis
as well as maybe take in some blues music at BB Kings, eat some BBQ, ride the
trolley, and take in some local shopping!

Alright, back to the regular scheduled programming here on the blog!

First:  the color inspiration from Play Date Cafe by Julie

Then:  the sketch from Card Patterns by Nina

Here is my card using these fantastic challenges!

I have had these pins in my stash for a LONG time and they worked
perfectly with these colors!

I'd love to hear what you think!  Here's to a great week!
Thanks for stopping by!

PDCC #58 and Jay Gee's Nook Challenge #2

Hello everyone!  I finally got a chance to play along in another PDCC challenge!
I'm not making Christmas cards this year except for a few people so I am trying to
get a head start on Valentine's Day.

This week's PDCC color inspiration is RED and WHITE.
Perfect.

Edit:  I forgot the other challenge that I'm playing along with is Jay Gee's Nook challenge #2.
What inspired me to use my doily stamp was this inspiration photo!

I've had this doily stamp for a couple of months and it hasn't seen ink!  Gasp, I know but
I'm sure there are those of you that have stamp sets like this too!

I am noticing now that on both my photos, I have a little white space showing in 2 places.  Oh well.
Some other goodies used were also new.......love that border die from MFT.
I know Sue Ann, another die you MUST have!  LOL

I'd better get busy cooking some Gumbo and Corn Bread muffins
for my family for dinner.  YUM!!
Please come back later as I will have a sneak peek of the
next Wilson Designs stamp set tonight at 11pm CST and the full release starts tomorrow!

PDCC #56 sponsored by Wilson Designs!

Welcome to the PDCC #56 this week!  This is my first time playing along with the PDCC
and it certainly won't be the last!  Look at these colors!  This week was sponsored
by Wilson Designs so the DT inked up Snowy Wishes for this one.
Here is the color story for this week:

Here is my card for this challenge using Snowy Wishes available at Wilson Designs!
I made another CAS card using this adorable snowman that you can create using this set!

I do have to admit something about this card..........I don't like to admit mistakes or boo boos
but I did get a fingerprint smudge after my card was COMPLETELY done!
Don't see it?  Well, that's because I ended up just cutting off the bottom part of
my card just below the sentiment so my card is a little shorter than an A2 size!

Do you like that polka dotted border?  Those are the "buttons" stamp for the snowman's belly
that are included with this set!  I thought it would be fun to use them in a different way
instead of using ribbon.  Boy that was hard!  LOL

Anyway, let's see you come play along with PDCC this week!  There are some great
prizes from the sponsors this week.  Have a wonderful day!

I also linked this card up for the Creative Inspirations Challenge blog!
