Paper or Plastic?

Hello All! Today I am up over at Art Anthology and let me tell you I have a super fun canvas to share!! But first let me give you a bit of a back story.....

As you may know Earth Day was founded in 1970 as a day of education about environmental issues, Earth Day is now a globally celebrated holiday that is sometimes extended into Earth Week, a full seven days of events focused on green awareness. So in honor of Earth Day our theme this month over at Art Anthology is Recycling!

Now that’s easy right…? Well yes and no, I wanted to do something different not my same old re-purpose reuse recycling. So I picked something strange, something bad for the environment and something that I need to stop bringing home. So what did I use?

Yep! I used plastic shopping bags to make my canvas. Now I will admit that when I started I thought I was making rolled roses for a pretty spring themed project.

As you can see I started by ripping the bags into long strips. I then glued them to the center of a paper circle. From there I just rolled, twisted and glued. They ended up looking like this:

Next I added a layer of gesso and some bright Art Anthology Colorations Spray & a tiny bit of stamping.

While my roses dried I went to work on my canvas adding doilies, mesh and heavy gesso for lots of yummy texture! Then I used so more Art Anthology Colorations Spray to create my landscape. This is what it looked like when I went to bed.

I woke up looked at my canvas and I really was NOT feeling my roses, so I walked away and started to plan my next project.  a few days went by and nothing I had no idea, but then something happened. My girls wanted to watch the Lorax and that's when it hit me! Sitting there watching a movie I've seen more than a hundred times, it just clicked! I didn't make roses I made Truffula Trees! That night thanks to Dr. Seuss I finished my canvas.

Some details for fun :)

So this Earth Day (and everyday) I will try to keep this quote in mind and strive to make some greener choices. But hey if I slip up and bring home more plastic bags at least I know I can make some pretty trees!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Art Journal Day at Practical Scrappers

Hello All!

I just wanted to stop in and share a quick Art Journal Page that I created for Practical Scrappers. Each month we are given a theme and or challenge, this month we were asked to include a collage element along with our "Luck Me" theme.

For me I thought of how I need to always remember how lucky I am. It's so easy to be distracted by the "what ifs" &" if only's" I wanted to create a page focused on how truly lucky I am.

I started by creating a collage background using scraps of green paper, I filled in the cracks with paint. I added a few green journaling stickers from Kaisercraft and lots of fun snapshots of my family.
Everything fell into place after I added some random stamps and my quote.

Just a few details for fun!

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Golden!!

If you had asked me a few years ago if I thought gold would be making a comeback,  I would have said no way.  I would have been sad because to tell the truth I never stopped loving gold! So I was more than excited when Practical Scrappers challenged us to share a "Golden Project"

So here is my project, I started by grapping the first golden thing in my stash that I knew I had to use. That's right! Studio Calico's Gold Doilies don't you just love them!! I know I do :)

I know Valentines is over but it's still February and I just love Red with Gold, which lead me to this:

Products Used: Authentique Smitten Collection, Gold Embossing Powder, Studio Calico Gold Doilie, Tim Holtz Die, Art Anthology Paint and a bit of Ribbon.

You have to take a look at the sparkle the Art Anthology adds, don't you just love it!!

Its Art Journal Day over at Practical Scrappers!

I must say one of my favorite new features at Practical Scrappers the monthly Art Journal pages! I just love playing in my Art Journal, it helps me get out of my scrappy rutt and allows me to just play and get messy! You know I love to get messy!!
.
This month we were given a quote by Vincent Van Gough to inspire our page. Here is a look at my page:
Products Used: American Crafts Patten  Paper, Dylusions Mist, Tissue Paper, Vellum, Gesso, Art Anthology, Acrylic Paint, Ranger Ink, Tim Holtz Stamps, Faber Castell Markers and bunch of stencils.

As you can see my page is full of color and reads Love Life at first glance,  but when you look closer you see the full quote:

"The way to know life is to love many things" - Vincent Van Gogh

Here are just few closer looks at my page:

Lots of sparkle and shine and tons of doddles :)

Lots of funky teature thanks to a bit of tissue paper.

Now you can see why these are some of my
very favorite things to play with!!

Have a Great Day and thank you for stopping by!
I hope that this inspires you to open up your Art Journal & Get Messy!! Now don't forget the other ladies have even more inspiration up over at Practical Scrappers for you so hop on over.

Art Journal Page

It seems the start of each new year gives many of us a sense of renewal, a time rid ourselves of the unwanted, reorganize, reevaluate, and start something new. Over at Practical Scrappers we thought we'd also take the opportunity to start 2014 with a new feature. Each month, we'll be introducing a new prompt or idea for art journaling, and featuring the work of our designers here to get you inspired.Which is perfect for me because I really wanted to start my Art Journal this year!

Our theme for this month was "New Beginnings" for my take on this theme I created this page that reads" She decided to start living the life she imagined" which is one of my all time favorite quotes.

Products Used: Lindy Stamp Gang Mist, Faber Castell Bug Brush, Art Anthology, Tim Holtz Stamps, Prima Mask, Staz-on Ink.

I had so much fun playing with my mists for the first time I have to say I love them! I have to say that I love my art journal, there are now rules! Its a mess  and that's completely fine! There are no rules no expectations.... Just me and what ever I want to play with. This is the best therapy ever!!!!

Some Details for fun :)

I hope this inspires you to get a little messy and have some fun and don't for get to stop by the Practical Scrappers Blog to see what the other ladies created. I know you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Practical Scrappers -Scrapping our Stash, Blog Hop

Welcome to the

Scrapping our Stash, Blog Hop!

If you have been hoping along with us you should be arriving here from Kelly Jean's Blog. If you have stumbled here by chance please feel free to hop along with us! The inspiration starts over on the Practical Scrapper's blog!

CHA is this weekend and that means the industry is putting out all kinds of fabulous new product.  So what better time to kick off our new monthly series of Scrapping our Stash! So in the hopes of inspiring you to use your stash, I put together two projects using some products that have been hanging around my desk since May. Now grant it I could have dug deeper (believe me much deeper) at least I started.

First up I created this sweet little card using Pink Pasilee's Luxe Collection.

Products Used: Pink Paislee -Luxe Collection, American Crafts Thickers and Cardstock, Copic Markers, Viva Paper Pen.

Now i know this is a simple card but I really had fun making it, I just love the dimesion and shine that the Viva Pen adds to the color that added using my copic makers.

Next up is a Mixed Media layout that I created using the Cottage Farm collection by Pink Paislee as well.

Products Used: Pink Paislee- Cottage Farm Cottage Farm Collection, Pink Paislee Artisan Sticker,  & Bo Bunny Dollie & Bling, Viva Molding Paste, Tim Holtz Ink & Stamps, Prima Stamps and Heidi Swapp Mist & Stencils.

Just a few details just for fun!!

I hope that these products have inspired you to clear out some of your stash!

Now a special shout out to the sponsor of today's hop: Kiwi Lane Designs!

Practical Scrappers October Sketch!

It's time for another fun sketch by Liz over at Practical Scrappers!  I used the super cute We R Memories Keepers Bewitched Collection that was in my DT Kit from Scrappy Chic. Here is my take on the sketch.
his month there is a pumpkin in the sketch but that doesn't mean you have to use it for Fall or Halloween.

Products Used: We R Memories Keepers Bewitched Collection, My Minds Eye Washi Tape, Studio Calico Wood Veneers, Martha Stewart Punch.

I just love to add bits of
washi tape & wood veneers to layouts.
Its a quick easy way to add a pop
to a LO without all the bulk.

And just a bit of stitching goes a long
way to to add a finished look to a LO.

Finally here is the sketch there is a pumpkin in the sketch but that doesn't mean you have to use it for Fall or Halloween its super fun! Now make sure you hop on over to Practical Scrappers to see what the other ladies have created.
