Road Robots.
One of the biggest hazards on the roads in America at the moment are Road Robots: Robots that dance on or near roads and highways. Dancing robots distract more drivers than anything else in the United States. Although skilled, they really should find somewhere else to perform. I've managed to get quite a few photos of these robots on our road trip in the U.S.
Report dancing robots on the roads. Call 555-101-I-ROBOT.
Road Robots dance for attention. Slowing down to view them will cause the robots to think you want them to come home and live with you, and they will attempt to enter your car. KEEP DRIVING. They will eventually wander off when no-one pays them any attention.
Road Robots come in all shapes and sizes and are pre-programmed with over 300 dance moves.
Road Robot debris can be a real hazard on the highways. Not every robots dances to see another day.
Some Road Robots are huge and can cause major traffic delays until they finish dancing and the roads are cleared.

HAL
A while ago I was asked to do some robot designs for a website where computer programmers can test their skills on a variety of tasks/games. They wanted a robot character named HAL that would act as a kind of advancement marker for players as they used the site. HAL would start off as a crappy robot but as programmers progressed through various levels completing different tasks, you could get upgrades and new parts for HAL until you reached his ultimate form. I thought this was a neat idea and had some fun designing new heads for HAL that corresponded to different games. Actually, I don't need much persuasion or excuse to draw a robot so I was happy from the start! :P

Robot Comic!
Here is the robot comic I drew that was featured in this anthology. Again, no photoshop; just pen, ink, tip-ex, photocopying and kurecolour pens! Embarassingly, I'm the only person to have written a comment for this on Amazon! :P

Moving picture delights!
I've been trawling the wonder that is YouTube lately and feel I need to share some videos I've been enjoying! (The videos are slightly squished but click on them to go to YouTube)
First off we have Tetra Vaal; a fantasic short video by Neill Blomkamp, director of upcoming sci-fi film (which looks amazing), District 9. I saw this years ago and have been trying to find it ever since. Everything about this is just so well done and I love the robot!
On the subject of District 9, here's Neill Blomkamp's original short film, Alive in Jo'burg that was the springboard for District 9. Love the bio-suits!
Some hilariously surreal animation by Don Hertzfeldt. Wait for the Intermission in the 3rd Dimension...!
One of my all-time favourite gags from The Simpsons, Worker and Parasite! Absolute genius!
And finally, Stick Figure Theatre presents: Night of the Living Dead!

Robots and Food
For my food exhibition at the end of the month, I thought it would only be right to include some robots. I have yet to find an occasion that robots aren't suited for!
