Sneg … in srne

Ko je sneg, je treba hrano poiskati magari na vrtovih, pravijo srne. In ker smo druga hiša od gozda, jih včasih vidimo tudi na našem dvorišču. Danes sva presenečeno opazovala sledi na vrtu in luknjo okoli zelja. Očitno so prišle na malico. Tudi sliko imamo - zjutraj jih je presenetila S. in jih posnela s telefonom, ko so se čez sosedovo parcelo vračale domov.

As we are living near the woods, we sometime see deer walking around the house. This morning our daughter surprised them on the yard and managed to snap few photos while they were walking back home.

Slovenia encased in ice

Well, that was some weekend!
It all started on Friday when instead of snow we got rain at 0 degrees C. (And by “we” I mean a big part of Slovenia. Later the rain spread over all Slovenia and parts of Italy and Hungary.) Of course, ice started to accumulate on everything and in some parts (luckily not here) trees were breaking under the accumulated weight. Roads were closed, power lines were cut.
On Saturday the water stopped flowing. We live on a hill and we depend on a pumping station which apparently lost power. As we prepared few gallons of drinking water in advance, this was not such a problem. (Except that we had to melt snow so we were able to flush toilets.)
Then, an hour before midnight, electricity went out. Mobile internet was still working so we checked if the civilization still exists and went to bed.
On Sunday morning, electricity was back, and so was water (hurray!). There was, however, no internet, although the TV was working (we get both over the same cable). Mobile data was also not working (voice and SMS were, most of the time). Outside, everything was encased in ice.

We only had 4 hours of electricity, though, until the noon. The water kept flowing – it looks like somebody has attached a power generator to the pumping station. There continued to be no mobile internet; even voice and SMS communications were mostly interrupted. And so we mostly read books by the candlelight …
On Sunday evening the rain finally changed into a snow (with the temperature still holding around 0 deg. C). We got electricity back during the night and on Monday morning house was again a nice place to live in. Still no internet, though – neither the cable nor the mobile connections were working. On the outside, everything was normal at a first glance but a closer look showed that all trees are still covered in ice and some branches are broken. No big deal, at least all trees are still standing.

It is now Monday morning, the temperatures are climbing (we’re at +1), we have electricity and water, but still no internet. We consider ourselves lucky as there are some parts of Slovenia which are cut from the world for the third day in row and still don’t have power lines reconnected.

Belopeški jezeri

Enkrat januarja (ja, že celo večnost nisem pospravljal slik) smo se odpravili na Belopeški jezeri (Mangartski jezeri, Laghi di Fusine). Takoj čez mejo sta, malce naprej od Rateč, in na lep dan se zelo splača odpeljat do njiju. Mi smo imeli mraz in sneg in sonce in je bilo super. Poleti mora biti tudi lepo tam. Tudi z biciklom se da pripeljat do tja, začneš pa kjerkoli med Mojstrano in mejo. Za slikice kliknite na spodnjo montažo.

Tokrat je pa padla resna doza. Moram skidat, avto je včeraj ostal v dolini.

Konec jeseni

Lani sem tako fotografijo objavila 26. novembra. Danes je 20. oktober in sneg je že 4 ure stara novica … Ampak naj bo tu, za arhiv.

Last year the first snow fell on November 26th. This year it came a bit early. What strikes me the most is the fact that on October the 2nd I swam in the sea. Today it will be snow boots if it continues this way.

Cerkno

Včeraj smo šli sicer smučat, a je bilo vreme tako bedno oblačno, da sem edino panoramo posnel kar s telefonom :( Vseeno jo objavljam, da boste videli, da se ne zmišljujem. Smučalo se je pa fino.

Yesterday we went skiing but the weather wasn’t really good.

Kranjska Gora

V petek sva se odpravila malo smučat – prvič po dveh letih (uf!). Bilo je lepo, pa čeprav je bilo malo oblačno. (Še fino, ker se sneg ni takoj spremenil v vodo.) Folka skoraj nič. Noge so še vedno utrujene …

We took a day off on Friday and went skiing.

Emica pravi, da sem presmučal 23 km. Kar spodobno. K. je omagala dve vožnji prej in šla naročit vaflje. (Njama.)

All in all, I’ve skied 23 km.

Pa je spet vse belo

Kakih 7 cm, nič več, pa vseeno dovolj, da je bilo treba peš v šolo.

Sonce in sneg

 

Včeraj so otroci začeli delati iglu; danes sva ga s tamalim dokončala. Tavelka je pa sedela v hiši, smrkala in pila čaj

Yesterday the kids started making an igloo. Today I’ve helped finished it. Too bad only the younger one could help, the older one was sitting inside with a cold.

Zasneženi petek

Danes mirno tiho naletava sneg. Škoda, da je petek in da je treba delat – bi kar sedel na toplem ob oknu in gledal ven.

It’s snowing again, slowly but with determination. I wish it was Saturday so I could do nothing and watch the snow.

Detel! Ne, DVA detla!

Ko majhno dete sem kar po stolu poskakovala, ko sem na deblu slive zagledala detla. Tudi semenčka pod krmilnico je preveril, pa po češnji obral žužke, pa mi Slovon, ki je šel še z drugega okna fotkat, kliče: “Ne eden, dva sta!” In v naslednjem trenutku sta se sklofala na slivi. Presneti samci.

We had another cute visit, not one, but two Great Spotted Woodpeckers. Lovely, just lovely! (I forgot to work again!) There was no way to take a picture of both, they were fighting in no-time, of course. Guys. Sheesh.

Ptički

S pisalne mize imam totalno perfekten razgled na ptično krmilnico, tako da na trenutke pozabim prevajat. Ta hip so v krmilnici in okoli nje liščki, ščinkavci čakajo, da bodo prišli na vrsto. Čez nekaj časa bodo prišli plavčki, potem bodo pa vse skupaj pregnali vrabci, ki so najbolj “gemajn” in tudi najbolj predrzni.

I have the perfect view from my desk. It’s hard to remember to work sometimes!
