Lois Lane, Naughty Nurse!!

So, Steve Lombard is about to drown in a mysterious whirlpool. Superman rescues him, but he's a busy guy, so...

Considering the guy was just unconscious and needed mouth-to-mouth (and no, he wasn't faking, unless he was able to fake out Kal-El's super-senses), smashing his chest with your knee and threatening him 2 seconds after you revive him might be a little bit too much tough love, no?

I'm just sayin'...Lois might not be your first choice for a nurse...

Manic Monday Triple Bonus--In The Metropolis Justice System...

So, to recap the two previous posts, Clark Kent has to make a documentary about Steve Lombard, which includes filming his workout at the gym, for some reason.

But, there are also evil Superman puppets hanging around Metropolis, and Superman has to get his but out there to investigate. (SPOILER ALERT--no, it's not Toyman).

How does Clark solve his conundrum?

Wait a minute!!!

That was kinda harsh there, Kal-El. I know Lombard's a jerk ,but geez--a vicious faceplant resulting in unconsciousness?? With the attending brain and/or neck injuries??? Really?!?!?

You see, Kal-El, I don't know how they do it on Krypton, but here on Earth we call that assault, and that's a felony. You're looking at jail time (unless you roll on Batman...)

You know, this makes me think--Law & Order: Metropolis would really, really rule.

But...Marvel has Matt Murdock and Jennifer Walters...does DC have any super-powered lawyers? None are coming to mind at the moment...

In the DC justice system, the people are represented by separate yet equally important groups--Cary Bates, who writes the story, and Curt Swan & Murphy Anderson, who draw it. This is Superman #269 (1973).

And, yes, I just did three posts about a story wherein Superman fights evil Superman puppets, and I didn't even show the puppets. Be patient...

manic Monday Bonus--Well, Excuuuuuuse Me!!

Hey, kids, look--another forgotten Superman power!!

Clark Kent has to make a documentary about Steve Lombard, because that's how WGBS rolls.

But, at the same time, he has to get away for a few minutes to investigate evil Superman puppets who are stealing his super-powers one by one (yay, Silver Age!!)

So what does he do?? Get ready for it...

YESSS!!!

Oh, they try to disguise it with DC Science:

But you and I know, it was a Super-Burp!!

So, kids, next time you burp at the table, and your parents try to reprimand you, just explain that you're trying to be like Superman.

I promise, that will keep you from being punished...

Manic Monday--Steve Lombard Has Sexy Handwriting

How popular was WGBS-TV broadcaster Steve Lombard? (Pay attention--there will be a quiz at the end)

"Much more" popular than Joe Namath!! And Joe was on the Brady Bunch, so you know Steve has got to be ultra-popular!!

So, Clark is assigned to make a documentary for WGBS, "A Week In The Life Of Steve Lombard." Because they got tired of constantly showing Becker re-runs, apparently...

This means Clark has to follow Steve around to see how great Steve is. One of their first stops?

And prepare to be creeped out by those girls "from seven to seventy":

OK, here's your quiz: Which is the most disturbing?

A) The grandmother impressed with Lombard's "king-size"...ahem...check

B) The mini-skirted mom drooling over Steve's handwriting

C) The very young child cooing, "Ooohh, Stevie!"

Show your work.

Cary Bates, Curt Swan and Murphy Anderson skeeve us out in Superman #269 (1973).
