Friday Night Fights--Let's Give The Sphinx Another Chance Style!!

Last week in Friday Night Fights, we saw The Sphinx try to rise to the level of a god--and get his butt handed to him by Galactus.

But since this is Repeat-Rehash-Revenge, I have to use one of those two again for this week's fight. Well, here at Slay Monstrobot, we're all about giving people a shot at redemption. So let's go back a couple of years earlier, when the Sphinx was merely really really really powerful, and see how he fares.

In this story, he's captured the Inhumans, mainly because he wants to harness Black Bolt's awesome powers. Why? So he can go all Darkseid and take control of every mind on Earth and search them for the Anti-Life Equation the mysterious secret he's been looking for (SPOILER ALERT--he's looking for a way to end his own eternal life!)

The Fantastic Four show up to rescue the Inhumans, but...

Well, that didn't go so well. But the FF's battle did manage to awake the Inhumans!!

Well, that's that, then. Sphinx wins, and...hey, wait a minute! There's one Inhuman who's not crumpled unconscious on the floor there. Where's...

BAM!!!

Black Bolt is so badass that he knocks Sphinx a full light year away!!!!

Poor Sphinx. Never quite ready for prime time. Perhaps Spacebooger could coach you up some...

Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard & Bob Hall (pencils) and Bob Wiacek (inks) show us that Black Bolt is more Inhuman than human in Fantastic Four Annual #12 (1977).

I've really got no good reason for you to vote for my fight this week. But you should, anyway, just because.

Friday Night Fights--Devourer Of Worlds Style!!

We had a couple of weeks off last month for Friday Night Fights Repeat-Rehash-Revenge, wherein we're required to re-use one fighter from the previous week's fight in the current one.

So, let's review. We started out with Hulk vs. Sandman, then to Sandman vs. Spider-Man, to Spider-Man vs Daredevil (IN A FAT SUIT!!), to Daredevil vs. Doctor Doom, to Doom inside the Destroyer armor versus Thor, to Galactus' essence in the Destroyer vs. the Thing.

Hmmm, Galactus' essence, eh? That leaves the door open to use the big guy himself, in a throwdown slugfest.

Galactus in a slugfest? Yup!! We've got to travel back about 30 years. The Sphinx had absorbed all the knowledge from the Living Computers of Xandar, and had become like unto a god. A mad god, who wants to destroy Earth. So a desperate Reed Richards makes a deal with Galactus to get him to come and defend Earth. Crazy, huh?

Which leads to this rumble:

Oh, yeah, the Galactus chop!! But we're not done yet:

Game, set, match. Sphinx, you weren't ready for the big leagues yet.

Of course, Spacebooger predicted that result. And you could have, too, had you had the wisdom to consult the mighty Bahlactus!!

Marv Wolfman, John Byrne and Joe Sinnott have the Big G get physical in Fantastic Four #213 (1979).

Now, it might be pretty obvious that you should vote for me this week, because no one else will have a battle of such cosmic significance. Plus, aren't you dying to see where I go next week? So head over to Spacebooger's dojo and vote already!!
