Manic Labor Day--Hercules' Greatest Labor?!?

Well, we can hardly celebrate Labor Day without the original man of labor--12 of them, to be precise--Hercules!!

The Prince of Power has just saved the planet Ciegrim-7, but the celebrations are interrupted when a certain herald of a certain planet-eater shows up...

But it turns out that Hercules and this particular herald are from the same backwater planet...

Well, one thing led to another, and...ahem...well, there was still a Comics Code back in those days, so let's just put it like this:

Oh, Hercules!!

Anyway, after Hercules beats Galactus with the power of laughter (and I mean that literally!), well...

Oh, Hercules...he labors for all of us, folks!!!

Someone Give snell A Valium!

I look at these panels, and I have questions:

Why does Thor continue to speak in "Asgardian font," while Hercules doesn't?

What, Norse gods talk funny, but Greek gods don't?

Why does Marvel continue to insist of having Thor and Odin and all other Asgardians speak in the harder-to-read Asgardian font?

After 40-odd years of being perfectly content with perfectly cromulent stories all giving Thor and most other Asgardians the same speech as everyone else, why in the name of Yggdrasil would you change to the abomination that is Asgard font?

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME, MARVEL?!?!?!?!?!

[Editor's note: snell has been sedated. Please forgive his ravings.]

Friday Night Fights--The Gift Style!!

Let's finish off this month with a bang, shall we?

For this week's Friday Night Fights, let's trek back to a time when the Avengers were visiting Hydrobase to set up their new headquarters. Meanwhile, Namor is there, too, crashing on Hydrobase because he's been ousted (yet again) from ruling Atlantis.

Well, Hercules sees the Sub-Mariner brooding...

...and he has the best plan to cheer Namor up!

Oh, it is on!

But finally, the rest of the Avengers intervene...

...and the Lion Of Olympus Hercsplains why he attacked:

See, it did cheer Namor up!!

Spacebooger is concerned that it sets a bad precedent letting fights end in a draw...

Men will be boys in Avengers #262 (1985), by Roger Stern, John Buscema and Tom Palmer.

Now is the time for you to go and vote for my fight! Why? If you don't, I'll be sad--and then Hercules will try to cheer me up!! So save me--and go vote!!

Friday Night Fights--SPANGG Style!!

Friday Night Fights time!!

Situation: Ares and Pluto have kidnapped a barely-legal Asgardian goddess, and framed Hercules for the deed.

So Odin sends Thor to Olympus for a mighty reckoning...and after tearing up the Greek undercard, it's time for the main event:

Fortunately for Herc, this is when Zeus (finally) decides to step in with a "what madness doth this be" speech.

Spacebooger is just glad Thor didn't have to face this guy:

Now is the time for you to go and vote!! And vote for my fight!! Or else I'll send you spam emails trashing my opponents!! So vote!!
