Stop by and check out these holidays as I am sure you are going to want to remember these holidays and include them in your card making projects!!!!!

For my special holidays, I chose St. Nicholas Day which is on December 6th. This is one holiday which when my daughter was small, we celebrated by putting her shoes outside her bedroom door with treats for the reindeer and if she was good, she found small little treats in her shoe in the morning. This year, the tradition continues as she will have Lily put her little shoes outside her bedroom door. Why, the bedroom door you may ask?? Well, when Jen was very little, about Lily’s age, her and I had lived in an apartment complex let’s just say, I didn’t want her shoes outside.

In many places St. Nicholas is the main gift giver. His feast daySt. Nicholas Day, is December 6, which falls early in theAdvent season. Some places he arrives in the middle of November and moves about the countryside, visiting schools and homes to find out if children have been good. Other places he comes in the night and finds carrots and hay for his horse or donkey along with children's wish lists. Small treats are left in shoes or stockings so the children will know he has come.

Where St. Nicholas is prominent, his day, not Christmas, is the primary gift giving day. Parties may be held on the eve, December 5th, and shoes or stockings left for St. Nicholas to fill during the night. Children will find treats of small gifts, fruit or nuts, and special Nicholas candies and cookies. St. Nicholas gifts are meant to be shared, not hoarded for oneself.

RECIPE:
  • card was cut 4.25 x 11 and then scored in half using my Martha Stewart Score Board
  • white background was cut at 3.75 x 5 inches and then inked around the edges with burgendy
  • tennis shoe was cut at 2.75 inches using Cricut Rock Princess Cartridge page 52
  • card was stamped with sentiment and gingerbread man and lollipop which were then colored with my Prisma colored pencils
  • I will put the story of St. Nicholas Day on the inside and send to Lily
The second holiday, I chose is Hanukkah which this year is held on December 8th. I have a very good friend that is Jewish. I have gone over his home and celebrated with him and his family on numerous Jewish holidays. I wanted to make a special card for him and his family as a thank you for being my friend no matter what the circumstances.

RECIPE:
  • card is a pre-cut card for DCWV Winter Collection
  • Hanukkah Collage is a Create with TLC file
  • blue ribbon was added in the bottom corner
  • card was colored with my gel pens and chalked around the edges and through the music to soften the look
My third holiday is Crossword Puzzle Day. When doing some research on this holiday, I discovered that December 21st was the day that the first crossword puzzle was published in a newspaper. Do you know which newspaper???? Hmmmm, let’s see who reads my little trivia and the first one with the correct answer will get some little treats ……

RECIPE:
  • card was cut 6 x 12 inches and then scored in half using my Martha Stewart Score Board
  • background paper is a stack of books which found on clearance for $.10 and was cut 5.75 x 5.75 inches
  • crossword puzzle is a jpg. which I found on a google search
  • pencil is from a Creative Kuts File, School Collection 2

Stop by and check out these holidays as I am sure you are going to want to remember these holidays and include them in your card making projects!!!!!

Thanks for stopping by and mark your calendar again next month to see what Holidays to Celebrate on January 12, 2013, for the next Calendar Girls Blog Hop!

Keira's Double-Digit birthday Crafting Bash

Welcome To Keira’s Double-Digit Birthday Crafting Bash!

Oh, the dilemma of it all, what to get a talented gal such as Keira who is going to be 10 for her birthday!!!!! I know what, let's have a blog hop for her .....

Keira has sooo many talents and likes such as:
she will be going in the 5th grade, loves dogs and cats, loves to garden, is a competitive gymnast, but more importantly, she is the best crafting partner Lisa Woodward could have!  At 9, she can use a cricut independently, and with SCAL and CCR. She likes to paper piece and scrapbook and loves making cards for everyone~and everything!!!!  Hallmark may not have a card for “Sorry my Golden Retriever ate your shoe at my sleepover” but Keira sure does!  Keira crafts along side Lisa, working on her own projects, and with helping Lisa with hers.  Now, bear in mind that Keira is not a "kid" crafter so to speak but her skills go way beyond pipe cleaners and pom poms!

We have a talented group of crafters to help Keira celebrate her birthday and know she will be hopping along as part of her "surprise" .....

If you're just visiting me today, I'm thrilled but wouldn't want you to miss a single birthday wish to this special 10 year old!!!! The hop begins with Lisa. If you have arrived from Kimberly then you are most definitely following the cake crumbs and the birthday banners and streamers!!!

My project is from the Cricut Cartridge Rock Princes…. What a great cartridge to use to make a special double digit girl!!!! The silver packages are from a JoAnn Fabrics embellishment package which are sew appropriate for this card!

NOW, I must tell you that I am sending some crafting goodies too along the way but have to have something for a surprise for Keira!

Birthday Card for 11-Year Old

Today I have a card that I made for an 11-year old girl birthday this week. I am sew outta the loop as to type of card, let along sentiment to put inside . . . Sew, I pulled out my trusty Cricut Rock Princess and made my card from there. Must confess that I started with the "hint" or suggestion in the front of the book but didn't think a skull with a bow on its head was appropriate - call me old or a fuddy duddy but . . .

Recipe:
ü     Black cardstock cut at 6 x 6-inches
ü     Pink  paper cut at 5 x 5 – inches
ü     Black paper cut at 4 x 4 –inches
ü     Pink paper cut at 3 x 3 –inches
ü     3 ribbons from my stash with pink and black to coordinate
ü     High-top tennis shoe cut at 2.75-inches with grey as shadow, white as next layer, black as next layer and pink for the checkered part - sounds confusing but it all worked!!!!
ü     I had started to emboss with my Cuttlebug, but with all the layers, it only got embossed on the outer edge

The jury is still out for the sentiment on the inside but hoping for the best. My buddy, Michelle Ferris suggested "Put your high-tops on and jog into your teens" which is a great sentiment. Hope you enjoyed my card for today and I’m sew glad you stopped by!!!! Please leave a remark along with what you think would be a great sentiment!!!!!

God Bless you and thank you for following along with me!
