Once Upon a Time in the Middle of The Woods There Were 3 Bears AND a New Challenge at Create and Inspire

It's a new challenge at Create and Inspire - Are you ready to "create" with us??? This challenge has an optional twist - sombre and happy!!!! We have for the challenge this week fabulous sponsors:

During my second marriage, we used to go camping at a local campground. There was an amazing couple that used to be there and I always enjoyed our campfires with them. They were called Mamma and Papa Bear (aka Bill and Shirley). One of the songs they had sung around the campfire was more of a rap or chant complete with hand signs - "Once upon a time in the middle of the woods there were 3 bears. One was the Papa bear (grrrr), one was the Mamma bear (squeal), and one was the baby bear (waaah). Along came the girl with the golden curl - she knocked on the door but no one was there. She walked on in because she didn't care!!!"

Thus came my cascade story card of the 3 Bears along with Goldilocks using Ikes Art Goldilocks and 3 Bears!!!!!

RECIPE and SUPPLIES:
  • background DCWV Old World Stack with DCWV The Heritage Stack for the other side following the tutorial at My Crafty Time
  • Goldilocks & 3 Bears was colored using Prisma Colored Pencils, Prisma Markers and gel pen accent
  • bears were cut using Cricut Heritage Stack varying the sizes -baby bear's bib was made using a circle punch and cutting a little bit away
  • baby bear's spoon was cut using Cricut From My Kitchen Cartridge
"Papa bear said someone has been eating my porridge (grrrr), Mamma bear said someone has been eating my porridge(squeal), and baby bear said someone has been eating my porridge and they ate it all gone(waaah)."
  • rocking chair was cut using Cricut Kate's ABC's cartridge
"Papa bear said someone has been sitting in my chair (grrrr), Mamma bear said someone has been sitting in my chair (squeal), and baby bear said someone has been sitting in my chair and they broke it all up (waaah)."
  • bed was cut using Cricut Everyday Paper Dolls Cartridge with some gel pen accents and pillow made just cutting an oval
"Papa bear said someone has been sleeping in my bed (grrrr), Mamma bear said someone has been sleeping in my bed (squeal), and baby bear said someone has been sleeping in my bed and there she is! (waaah)"
  • Papa and Mamma Bear have tiny little bows using Darice 1/8-inch satin ribbon
  • "All you need is LOVE and a teddy bear" had been a previous freebie from Create with TLC
  • bear on the bed, is a fabulous button from my stash
"Just then Goldilocks woke up, jumped outta bed and ran out the door!!!!"

TIP: to remove shanks from buttons, toe nail clippers work wonderful - I had been using Bob's but decided I had better get my own before I broke his - SHHHHH don't tell him!

Those campfire times with Shirley and Bill along with my daughter, Jen, and Bob (my 2nd husband not to be confused with who I am living with Bob) are wonderful memories and I thank you for allowing me to share them with you.

"Bye Bye said the Papa Bear (grrrr), Bye Bye said the Mamma Bear (squeal), and Bye Bye said the Baby Bear (waah) . . . And that's the story of the 3 Bears!"

Now, it's your turn to create for the challenge - I can't wait to see your creative inspirations!!!!

    Home Depot Gift Card Holder

When, I first got my Cricut, one of the things I loved to make were special gift card holders - to me, they make the gift card extra special. My dear friend, Rosie, has a beautiful niece, Jenni, who is starting to sew. For Christmas, Rosie had wanted to give her a gift card to Home Depot to get sawhorses and a door to make a sewing table for her machine and to cut out her fabric. I jumped at the opportunity to make this special gift card!!!

    Recipe:
    • front of gift card holder was plain brown Recollection cardstock with several rectangles that were chalked around the edges to make it look like a paneled door
    • wreath was cut using Cricut Lacy Labels Cartridge
    • Queen & Co. pearl was added for the door knob
    • inside of gift card holder, the letter "A" is the base of the sawhorse with an additional rectangle to cover the top part of the letter
    • sewing machine was cut using black Recollection cardstock and Cricut Heritage Cartridge
Well, what do you think???? The gift card slides in behind the sewing machine and is held in place by the sewing machine and the sawhorse!!!

The Magic of Christmas Seen Through the Eyes of a Child

One of Create with TLC's new images is Embrace the Magic which I loved and knew I just had to play with it.

just look at those two children looking out the window and what do you suppose they saw - if you look very very closely you just may see Santa . . .

    RECIPE and SUPPLIES:
    • red Recollection card stock was cut for 4.25 x 11 which was folded in half for a 4.25 x 5.5 inch card
    • The Paper Stack Old World Winter is the background along with the background where Santa and his sleigh and sentiment are
    • I printed the children on vellum then colored using Whisper Strokes Markers with gel pen accents - now, this has to dry at least overnight to make sure everything is dry before assembling card
    • "Christmas when we all get to be kids" is from Create with TLC Get to Be a Kid which was chalked around the edges
    • the little Santa and is sleigh which shows through the front was from Create with TLC Winter/Christmas Club last year and was colored using Spectrum Noir Markers, Whisper Strokes and gel pen accents and chalked around the edges
    • frame was cut using Cricut Heritage Cartridge and dark grey Recollection cardstock with Queen & Co. black pearls in the corners and a little bow at the top
Christmas as seen through the eyes of a child - embrace the magic!!!

I do appreciate you stopping by to visit with me and I appreciate and love reading each and every comment . . is your comment the next one I read???

I know, I haven’t been on for a month and working on my blog. Between my back, doctor visits, physical therapy, and general health – I just haven’t been up to crafting. I did finish quilting my new grandson’s quilt and crocheted an afghan and will be sharing that with you within the next few days. This month, I have been busy though and created a lay-out and 3 cards!!! It felt good to be crafting again and I hope you enjoy my projects along with my little stories . . . .

My first card is for September 1 Emma M. Nutt Day, the first woman telephone operator. Why I chose this occasion is my very first job was for a telephone operator for a Cemetery . . . . it was an old-fashioned trunk line phone which reminds you of Lily Tomlin on Laugh-in (ok, did I show my age??).

    Recipe:
    • card was cut 6 x 8.5 inches and folded in half using ivory Recollection cardstock and chalked around edges
    • phones were cut using Cricut Heritage Cartridge
    • background picture from Free Vintage Digital Stamps
    • eyelet border cut using Martha Stewart Eyelet punch
    • pearls and charm from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
    • sentiment, "How have you been? inquiring minds want to know" from Create with TLC

Now, September 3rd was Janet Smith's birthday - shhhh don't tell her about her card as I don't know if she has received it in the mail yet . . . .
One thing I've always wanted to do was the projects that are shown in the front of the Cricut booklets . . . well, here is my first project doing just that in front of Cricut Art Nouveau Cartridge..

    Recipe:
    • card cut 6 x 12 using DCWV Blossom Song cardstock and folded in half
    • Recollections Black and White Paper was cut 4.5 x 5.5 and another piece cut 4.125 x 5.675
    • white Recollections cut at 4 x 4.375 with another piece cut 4.657 x 5.657
    • pink Recollection cut 4.5 x 4.75
    • butterfly cut at 3.5 using Cricut Art Nouveau Cartridge using grey, pink, black and 2 shades of pink Recollections
    • pearls from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
    • ribbons from my stash
    • sentiment, "Happy Birthday", from Create with TLC
I decided to combine Teddy Bear Day, September 9th, and National Play Doh Day, September 16th with not only Teddy Bears, Play Doh, and Lily, who loves playing with her Play Doh and her "tools" as she says, making "poop" and then putting in a cage as Grandma taught her when Grandma makes kitties, they go in the cage . . . bad Grandma!!!!

    Recipe:
    • background 12 x 12 lay-out DCWV Nana's Kids
    • bears cut using Treasure Box Designs Playing with Dough
    • scraps for shapes
    • all edges with chalked around the edges
    • and of course pictures of Lily!!!

September 10th is Sewing Machine Day!!!! One of my first loves, other than my daughter and my grandchildren is sewing!!! I had supported my daughter and I when I had left her dad in 1983 where I did alterations, weddings, upholstery, and draperies not to mention all of Jenny's clothes!!! When Jenny decided she was too old for homemade clothing and after my other daughter passed, I started to quilt. I have taught sewing, machine embroidery, and quilting. When I broke my arm and wrist, I took to paper-piecing as it has a lot of the same qualities of quilting - cutting big pieces into little pieces combining into one project!!!! (at least, that's what my 2nd husband used to tell me!!! LOL!!!)

      Recipe:
      • card was cut 6 x 12 inches using DCWV Craft and folded in half
      • background was scraps
      • lace edging was made using Martha Stewart's Eyelet Border Punch
      • bingo card from Tsunami Rose printables
      • sewing machine cut using Cricut Heritage Cartridge
      • buttons and ribbon from button stash
      • all edges with chalked around the edges
      • sewing machine charm from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
      • sentiment, "Sewing mends the soul", from Create with TLC

My final occasion I chose is September 21st, Oktoberfest. I'm German with my grandfather having had worked for Duquesne Brewery until he retired. Holidays and Occasions always included beer!!! I love German restaurants along with the German food I grew up on - sew, why wouldn't I chose something with my heritage????!!!!!

      Recipe:
      • card was made using Make the Cut with a beer mug which I made into a layered card measuring 4.5 x 6-inches when folded in half
      • layers were cut using Recollections card stock
      • frothy foam was cut twice to dimension and then using Cuttlebug for dimension
      • all edges with chalked around the edges
      • sentiment, "Celebrate!!! it's your birthday", from Create with TLC.

Well, hope you've enjoyed my projects for this month's occasions. Your next stop along the way of the calendar is Sandy. Thanks for stopping by and mark your calendar again next month to see what Holidays to Celebrate on October 12, 2013, for the next Calendar Girls Blog Hop!

Thanks for stopping by today. God Bless as I appreciate and love your support and following my blog. Don’t forget to comment!!!!

      Much love, hugs, and friendship
