THE KOTO MUSIC OF JAPAN - Nonesuch Records ,1965

An impressive study of Japanese koto music ,in varying styles. 6 different masters play pieces solo ,and as duos and/or trios. This is the mono version of this fine album ,procured from the back room at Record Trader ,the storefront of my Ft. Myers,FL pal ,Ralph Tarantino. Pristine vinyl ,not a pop or click or scratch to be found! Since the interest in my post ,"Koto -The Beatles" (found here: http://archive.org/download/Koto-theBeatles/279Koto-theBeatles.zip  ) ,garnered over 200 downloads (including receipients as far flung as Captain Sensible of The Damned! and his friends) ,I figured it was time to unleash this beast upon the ears of the world! The liner notes are very informative ,telling the stories of each of the masters ,and the tales behind the music. Could not find a link to this anywhere ,but did see a few sites selling the lp. Very zen ,and trippy ,almost a Japanese version of the Indian sitar music.Mellow and merry-making. Cover art by John Trotta ,produced by Jac Holzman ,recorded by Katsumasa Takasago in Japan. Most folks don't know the famous Japanese koto was actually brought into being by the Chinese! Part of Nonesuch's "International Series".

BILLY DEVROE AND THE DEVILAIRES - Sex Machine

A nudie record from 1958! The guy is announced as Sam Nichols (or Nickels?) ,and mentions his own name several times throughout. So I don't know how this could be Billy Devroe (unless he was working under an alias).Could not find any info on this ,but it is bawdy(for the times) songs ,and joke stories accompanied by light country music, recorded live! Subtitled "Naughty Songs Of Sex And Sins For Adults Only" , while in today's world it is no more raunchy than Regis Philbin! Fetches a high price with collectors for the nude cover ,a ploy artists used back then to sell more records!Got it from my buddy Ralph Tarantino of Record Trader ,during a record swap session. On Laff Records. How ya like that 25 cents someone wrote on the top corner!I have more stuff like this ,gimme a shout in the comments if you want more!!

BYRON LEE & THE DRAGONAIRES - Dance The Ska

From the year I was born ,1964 ,comes one of my favorite ska albums of all time, hands down! Byron and the boys played the World's Fair in '64 also, and tried to introduce the new music known as "ska" ,to American audiences. One of the earliest practitioners of the genre, which was still in it's infancy when this was recorded. An album for the ages, every self-respecting ska band should be covering songs from this disc. If you haven't heard this, you'll never know what you've been missing! Grade A+ ska ,to the max! Thanks to Ralph at Record Trader!

THE GENTLEMEN -A Bunch Of Junk (Unreleased Acetate)

There were, and probably still are,a slew of bands known as the Gentlemen. This is one of them. They sound like some amateurish cover band, trying to break into the garage scene,in the mid to late 60's.Their version of ,"Hang On Sloopy"(which I recently found to be slang for a turd which won't detatch from it's exit tunnel),must be heard to be believed. The vocals are horrible,as in great, the bass sounds beautifully untuned, and the beat is slightly off-kilter.Then to follow up with an accordian led version of ,"Mack The Knife",is just ridiculous. The tune on the other side, does not appear to be the same band.A clue may be written on the sleeve I got the record in(from pal,Ralph Tarantino, owner of Ft. Myer's Record Trader) It reads ,:"Joe Hurley Remote (Stereo)".Anyone with a clue about this recording, get with me,thanks!Enjoy this extremely rare, unreleased acetate recording!
