back in 2017 I released the first part of this series,"Noise Is The New Punk Rock" ,this is part 2 of that series.The first part had 3 bands ,Black Flag,Germs,and Crass,utilizing their first 7" singles and dubbing them thru the Noisekillr patented noise machine,and making them into pieces of noise punk,where you could enjoy the songs in a new a different fashion!,Well,I finally decided to do part 2,with Rodney,again, as the cover model,from Skate Or Die!! (also Ski Or Die!!) with the first 7" singles from,DRI,7 Seconds,and JFA ,3 more of my favorite bands,and I did the same thing,with these records,played them thru the Noisekillr machine of many effects pedals,and popped out another noisepunk classic! I hope you enjoy,as these versions sound nothing like the originals! You can pick out vocals and guitar riffs ,if you know these records good enough,but even then it will be a struggle for you! Old Punks Never Die!!

The Fog Hats - Too Punk For You!

 

well,these guys use the word Fog Hat to describe the limp wristed types,to avoid confrontation and having to dispose of trash.They are from the small town of Smithville, OK,and these okies ain't no joke!! They are would be Bums & Losers members,who opted to go full punk,although some of their metal/hard rock aspects show thru.Lyrics are,funny,nostalgic,and sing-a-long punk rock,that all punkers will enjoy.Twinges of grunge and tardcore seep thru as well,Bringing the old punk sound into today's world of shittier and shittier bands/artists.....this is the shit! and the best thing is,there are demos of almost all these songs (all but the last track) ,that have slightly different sound and music,and even vocal style,and will probably be released at some point!

Have you seen the film ,"Los Punks - We Are All We Have"?? Seek it out before ,or after hearing this podcast for a look at a burgeoning underground backyard party punk scene that's been going on in South Central East Los Angeles ,for some time now! This is the unofficial,unauthorized soundtrack to that film,as one is not yet available,nor may it ever be.Hopefully,this podcast gives a glimpse into a small scene that is being ,and has been,repeated the world over ,since the advent of punk rock music. Most of the fans and bands in this riveting documentary,sport mohawks,liberty spikes,patches of uk street punk bands on their leathers or denims,chains,boots,spikes,and in sound some of these bands ape the uk street punk scene in it's mid -80's heyday ,but the influence of West LA ,Venice bands ,can't be denied,or overlooked.Some of the bands here have the classic "Suicidal" sound ,while others have taken the crossover-thrash metal sound ,farther into metal territories ,some even branching out into death or black metal.A lot of the interviewees in the film ,either band members or fans of the scene ,echo the same sentiments as o.g. punks did in the day ie: Punk saved my life,punk is an attitude,punk accepted me when others wouldn't ,punk rock gave me a family ,etc.The movie's subtitle ,comes from The Casualties,a NYC band that started in 1990.Their 2009 album is titled "We Are All We Have ",and it is one of the songs from that lp.The band appears and performs in the film,and they too,have that uk street punk ala Exploited,GBH,Cockney Rejects ,type of sound and look ,that a lot of the latinos in the film are inspired by..Punk rock is life ,and has been mine since 1975 ,when first reading about the New York Dolls ,The Ramones,and other happenings in NY (in CREEM magazine!) ,and the scene beginning in the UK at the time.Please,enjoy this special edition of WGOD  ,and if you do anything else before you die,make sure that seeing this film is on that bucket list! W.G.O.D. 50 - May 21st ,1997

17 years ago i made this W.G.O.D.  G O Dcast. Tape number 50 was elusive in it's appearance.when i got to number 49 ,I wanted to wait for number 50 ,for a special occasion which never really surfaced.I even had a friend (Ron Bohn in Atlanta,Georgia ,ex-patriate of the Ft. Myers scene) name his band ,"GOD50" .which was an honor ,but 49 carried on thru fractions and decimals (ie: 49 and 16/17ths ,49 and 17/18ths or 49.25,49.26,49.27 ..etc. and so on) until I met the girl who was to become my wife. I decided to then do W.G.O.D. 50  because i felt a change in my life about to happen,and figured it was as good of an occasion as any to let loose on number 50! Since the broadcast is from 1997 ,I play stuff that was current at that time,usually reflected in my recent purchases.I throw in some classics and oldies for good measure ,and there is the obligatory SLUGGISHA artists set ,and those great bits by Doug Shannon. In their only LP ,Massachussetts August Spies ,re-records a lot of earlier numbers and lays down some new anarchist punk songs.With covers of GG Allin and The Avengers, and Ashey on vox and guitar,this band is a punk force to be reckoned with.Veterans of the punk scene,they have opened for more big-name punk bands than you can count on your fingers(and toes!)Some of their finest moments are caught on this release,tho' some of these did have more punk furor on the original demo tapes.Ashey's mom was the cover model,and was apparently the coolest punk mom on the scene!This is the sound of anarchy! If you claim to be a true punk ,and you have not yet heard August Spies,I don't know how you can make that claim! Ashey is punk's "everyman" ,and his lyrics defend that notion. SLUGGISHA:200 DISASTERS LATER! (SL200)

Way back in the early 90's ,when Sluggisha was still an underground ,mail-order cassette label,this was the 200th release in the catalog.Featuring some of the best bands and/or songs ,up to that point,plus some of the latest stuff being recorded by local Ft.Myers,FL bands.As you can see from the cover art ,above,there were also bands from other areas of the United States,who were sending in tapes to be sold thru Sluggisha's distribution system.The songs that appear here were some of the most requested during gigs ,or on the underground ,pirate radio show on W.G.O.D. Many styles and types of music are featured ,which all fall under the punk umbrella.The catalog could be had thru ads in zines like Flipside,MRR,Rodent Cake ,and more obscure rags. The people who were lucky enough to have ordered cassettes from the catalog back then,were astounded by the revelation of real underground music,coming out of the deep south,as well as from our compatriots across the U.S. Yeah,some of the recordings are shit,but the bands worked with what they had,which in many cases ,was not very much.The Ft. Myers scene ,was very incestuous,with bands switching members ,and forming new bands ,constantly.Unfortunately many great bands never made recordings,or even if they played live gigs,they were sparsley attended.The earlier compilation,"The Ft. Myers Underground",featured pre-Sluggisha bands (mid-to-late 80's) ,with many people who continued to carry the torch into the 90's and beyond.A handful of the original scene is still recording music ,and doing various projects,to this day.The new kids who came in after the demise of downtown,(which we cracked open ,playing gigs,poetry slams) ,had no place left to play,as the top 40 type bands began to play downtown,and the scene dwindled.This is a document of a better time,when you could get a double mochaccino,smoke countless cigarettes,stand in the street in underwear and combat boots,drink booze,smoke dope,and wreak havoc.Ft.Myers sucks! It did then ,and it's a million times worse now.We had little record stores and comic shops we could play at,but sadly they never made enough revenue to keep on going. The Draft House (owned by Rick,and later Gary),The Main St. Coffee House(Cindy Bruce,who also owned a great thrift store ,right next door),The Indigo Club,Offbeat Records (Samskull in the Patio DeLeon),Record Trader(Ralph Tarantino) ,and oldies radio d.j. Doug Shannon ,all deserve to be in the history books ,with a resounding ,never-ending applause track,playing on to infinity.Thanks to everyone in the scene back then.You helped shape the town,and in turn the Sluggisha legacy,and I love you all.

W,G,O,D, # 83 - 9/9/99 - PUB ROCK COVER SONGS!!

The pub rock series of episodes stopped at #79. Shows 80,81,and 82 ,were standard programming,but on this episode ,#83 ,I brought back the U.K. punks ,for another go ,this time doing cover versions of some of their favorite/least favorite songs ,from bands that came before them. A lot of punks covered the beatles for some reason ,and I think the drunken,live, Sham 69 version of "With A Little Help From My Friends",is tops ,on that list ,and also the Damned with ,"Help" (Thanks Captain!) .There is a set of covers by some of the Sluggisha Tapes stable , with only a Fall cover (By Ephedrine Symphony) taking up with the U.K. versions ,the rest are ,well look below and read the tracklist!
