WHORESHACK - s/t debut

In light of the recent passing of Ron Palillo ,a/k/a Horshack ,I am posting the last few Whoreshack releases. This is the debut tape ,recorded live at The Bakery ,March 13,1993. Ed handles guitar and vocals,Billy on guitar, and Mike on drums.Mostly experimental instrumentals ,Whoreshack was the local version of the Ventures (if they were raised on punk rock ,and started their group in the 1990's)I've posted all the tapes ,backwards to forwards ,from the 6th release ,to this first one here. The post above this ,is actually the final recording ,of their first ever ,and last ever ,live gig ,recorded after the 6th release (The Zipper) ,and with Vance on drums ,in lieu of Mike. But more on that later. This is an amazing start ,to a short -lived band ,which never really got their due,in the time of their existence. I can't really say too much more ,except , let the music do the talking!

BILLY DEVROE AND THE DEVILAIRES - Sex Machine

A nudie record from 1958! The guy is announced as Sam Nichols (or Nickels?) ,and mentions his own name several times throughout. So I don't know how this could be Billy Devroe (unless he was working under an alias).Could not find any info on this ,but it is bawdy(for the times) songs ,and joke stories accompanied by light country music, recorded live! Subtitled "Naughty Songs Of Sex And Sins For Adults Only" , while in today's world it is no more raunchy than Regis Philbin! Fetches a high price with collectors for the nude cover ,a ploy artists used back then to sell more records!Got it from my buddy Ralph Tarantino of Record Trader ,during a record swap session. On Laff Records. How ya like that 25 cents someone wrote on the top corner!I have more stuff like this ,gimme a shout in the comments if you want more!!

MISFITS - Eyes To Despise

A rare double-album boot! Compiled from several other boots, this has demos, live shows ,and "Return Of The Fly" ,which was unreleased at the time(1990).The track list is mostly right ,it lists 49 tracks ,when there are actually 53 cuts! I fixed it on the mp3's ,like you don't already know these songs! Doyle signed it on the bottom of the eyeball to the left (see close-up), and it's on Johnson Records of NY. Not a bad comp. I've heard much worse. There are a couple of skips and some surface noise ,but, alas, it was pressed on inferior vinyl. This is only my second or third time playing it in 20 years. I left in every second of Doyle tuning up between nearly every song ,cuz' that's the way their shows were ,and I'm going for the full effect! Halloween is nigh ,and I will be posting more related stuff ,another Misfits covers comp. and a Halloween collection akin to last year's ,"Music To Eat Brains To" ,compilation!

SONIC YOUTH - Splitting The Atom

A new ,more topical title for this disc would be: "Splitting The Alt-Rock Super Power-Couple" ,in light of the recent news that Kim & Thurston are parting ways after 27 years of marriage! That sucks ,but they will at least finish their upcoming European tour ,and then see what flies. These are good recordings taken from various U.S. gigs during 1992.Courtesy of Joel Rizzo's discard pile ,thanks buddy! p.s. I saw a cool documentary today called "Flicker" ,about Brion Gysin's Dreamachine. Had Lee Ranaldo ,Genesis P. Orridge,William S. Burroughs ,and other underground cultural icons! Check it out, makes you wanna build your own Dreamachine (it would not be very hard, and would be quite rewarding ,in the end!)

SONIC YOUTH - Live in Central Park , July 4,1992

A well-recorded boot ,missing one song (Expressway To Yr. Skull) from the show , recorded on the "Dirty" tour. I think Joel gave me this ,plus a cassette comp boot ,and another disc ,the exact location of which eludes me at the current time. Thanks, buddy!

BLACK NERD - Acoustic Backyard Jam

This is exactly what the title implies. Chipmonk was sadly missing from this tape. Billy and Shane ,play guitars ,Sean Burch/Monson plays bongos ,and some guitar and vocals. Recorded live on 4/5/1992 in Sean's backyard.Definitely cult , and there was a fanzine (the cover of which is reproduced above!) ,of unknown origin , that was printed in a ltd. edition of 13 copies(!), dedicated to this band ,posted  over at my other blog  . There is also a great live at the Draft House recording ,located elsewhere on this blog. This must have been fun for the participants ,as it is fun to listen to. Do an eight-niner ,and sink into this atmospheric set of tunes.

LA GRANDE STORIA DEL ROCK - BIRTH OF THE BEATLES

The first side of this tape was recorded in 1961 in Hamburg with Pete Best ,Tony Sheridan, and The Beat Brothers. There is one Harrison/Lennon composition ,the rest are covers of then popular American rock n roll songs. Side B is live in Hamburg in 1962 ,has lots of speed-riddled chatter between songs, and covers more American rock tunes. Some of the vocals remind me of Elvis.

BLONDIE - Punk Goddess - Live,Interviews,Rare,Demos

Hey,I found this tape,in a box load of unlabled tapes, and I probably recorded it off the radio in the early 80's. I don't think you'll find this anywhere else! I kept the recording intact ,as one track ,which runs almost a half-hour. It sounds like the ,"Eat To The Beat" tour, and they do some songs you may not have heard before. I also included a file of early demos ,and a slideshow of 100 of my favorite images of Debbie Harry! Some nude shots from different eras, and a bunch of sexy photos. The pic I used above,is nowhere on the web, until now. It came from an old ,"KISS" ,fan magazine ,Peter Criss is on the back of Debbie! It's my favorite photo of her ,I've had it since the late 70's! Just the epitome of a punk girl! Well, enjoy this boot, and the pics!

CAT MACHINE - Power Trio

Around this time ,in Cat Machine's history,Tony and Myopia had just finished up their string of gigs at Visions, and Tony was in the pokey for a month or two.So Ed,Joel, and Chipmonk ,carried on as usual ,this is live to boombox, with great sound! Once again,as with "New Thing" ,a few tapes back ,this is kinda the germination of the splinter band ,One Fell Swoop.New versions of ,"Peddler of Pencils" (2x) ,"Land Of Faraway" ,and "Slim Jim Blues" ,as well as a bunch of awe-inspiring experimental stuff, that will blow your doors off! There's only about a half dozen tapes left in this series! All 4-track studio stuff,(with the noticibly missing Tony,on about half of the tapes)except the last tape, which is a rehearsal for a gig that fell thru, at Serena's ,a shitty rock club in shitty Cape Coral. So stay tuned for the rest of this tape series, scattered thru the next coupla months, sporadically, posting on the original release dates,20 years to the date! This was recorded on May 28th,1991.

HOMOSTUPIDS - The Whole World Is Homostupids!

For those who have not yet heard this band from the Clevo scene, pull your coat to this! A kind of cross of ,psych/garage/space/lo-fi/shitgaze/noise/tardcore , melded into a new music!
Looks like some choice cuts from almost every release, and a recent live set blended into the mix!I did the art for the cover of this, and the poster is from "HorribleFest-2011" ,which was a few weeks ago,and also featured Bake McBride (Food ,Poopy ,Scoops, and others performing Sockeye,Boy In Love, and Toughskins songs) ,and Cauliflower Ass and Bob (Food, again!),and what looks to have been a great goddamn line-up of groups, and a fun time was had by all in attendance. But back to what I was talkin about before , Homostupids are fuckin great! Support these guys and give'em your money! And definitely catch them live! Not homos!

CAT MACHINE - Frankie Goes To Horrible

Thankfully,no Frankie Goes To Hollywood songs are covered!Ed,Tony,Joel,Chipmonk, and Billy, give us some fine songs to savor ,tho'."Charlie & Gramps" , "Floppy Gopher" , "Sy Spurlin's Sperm Count" , "Leif Garrett's Prostate Gland" ,"Crumbcake Rescue" , and ,"Groggy Hotrod",are just some of the great tunes you'll be hearing,on this ,their 29th release! One of the most stupendous moments comes mid-way thru the song ,"Today We Live",when brothers ,Tony and Joel ,start arguing! In the middle of the song! We just keep going, and Joel kicks back in with some angry drumbeats! From 2/29/1991,recorded staight to boombox,at the Cat Machine House.
