THE JACKIE EARLE HALEYS - The Unreleased Tapes

Dug up some stuff from the vault.I was supposed to release this last year at this time,as there was a song to be pulled from this session,(our last full recording, recorded, mixed ,mastered and put to cassette ,all in one night!),that was slated for the 100 band compilation ,"Big Tit Hoagie" ,which has still not got it's shit together ,and gotten released yet, sheesh! Myself was on vocals, lyrics, and drums, mostly, maybe a little guitar as well.Billy Drake, did all lead guitars, and was/is the greatest guitarist I've ever known.Even though this band was based on 70's bands like T.Rex,Sweet,Kiss,Slade, and other rock and hard rock bands,Billy was as knowlegeable at  70's rock as he was at psych, folk, flamenco, grunge, and any other style you may want to mention. As well as being a multi-instrumentalist,as most all of us were in the close-knit Ft. Myers scene.Vance Burdge ,my best pal,is on bass, and some guitars as well.He did the recordings thru an analog 4-track cassette recorder, the same kind of old machinery that I still use til this day.Vance also mixed this stuff ,I believe,It may have been me,we both would do those duties, sometimes both of us would do our own mix,so there would be different versions /mixes ,of the songs.Vance is one of the most talented musicians I know of,multi-instrumental,plus studio ,mix, master, recording know-how.Anyway,back to these recordings,10 tracks of 70's styled rock, although we were getting a little bit too far away from home here, straying off into ballads,blues,funk,southern-rock,a cover of a Supersuckers tune, and a handful of tunes that both musically and lyrically, hearken back to our beginnings. When the band started it was just me and Vance.Billy joined ,eventually ,because he was usually hanging out while Vance and I were writing songs. At one point ,we had a full -line-up adding Mike Smith on drums, and recorded 3 practice sessions,2 of which I have, and need to upload. The first Haleys release was cobbled together from almost every tape session we recorded. There were many songs left off,and there will be a new compilation posted here, soon,as well as those live sessions. We were practicing so we could play gigs, but our drummer didn't really like the "rock and roll" sound of the band and left soon after. We never played live, but Vance and I did acoustic versions of a couple Haleys tracks at an open mic night at The Draft House in downtown Ft. Myers, back when it was a shit hole, and not all glitzy and glamorous like today. We did record one more song after this session, our last tune is called ,"(I Wanna Be A) Busboy",and is on the first compilation ,found elsewhere on this blog,if you want to hear the sound of a band making it happen, even in the face of breaking up.There's more to come, don't be sad. This isn't our best work, but it still ranks up there .

REDD KROSS - Teen Babes From Monsanto

Yup,Them McDonald boys whipped up this collection of some of their favorite covers back in 1984.I mean Kiss,The Stones,Bowie,The Stooges,The Shangri-La's,a Boyce and Hart tune I saw Serena (Samantha's cousin) sing on Bewitched once, and a cover of themselves.I also tacked on bonus cuts from various compilations they appeared on,some are covers,The Go-Go's and The Beatles may be covered ,as well,in keeping with the tradition established here. They have always been a covers type band ,but usually pick rarely heard songs, and make them their own.Or well-known tunes that they can tear the roof off of. A direct rip from my vinyl LP. Dedicated to the memory of Jeff "Fred" McDonald, and to my pal Vance Burdge.

ONE FELL SWOOP - Live! At The Draft House ,Downtown Ft.Myers ,Florida 2/26/1992

I found a lost live recording in the vault! This is a really good one! Our last gig ever ,at the Draft House ,Joel ,our defacto drummer ,had a broken arm ,so he was relegated to keys and also did vocals on a few numbers.Shane Carwile was beating the skins ,Chipmonk and I were on guitars ,and Billy Drake plays guitar on a number with Sean Burch on vocals! The last track is the very first time FUCK (the terror rock band with Mad Asshole-bass vox,Big Black Cock -guitar ,and Shaggy Dick -drums) ever played together ,with a totally improv number ,"You".They later recorded several sessions together, and toured Europe. But back to OFS! Different versions of all their set list ,all their usual covers ,and some improv instrumentals. New covers we never played before include ,Wire's "12XU" ,KISS "Rock N' Roll All Night" and Cat Machine "Queen Turd Of Shit Hill"!And the usual covers of The Fall ,The Flamin' Groovies ,The Beat Happening,Syd Barrett,Pink Floyd, the Stooges ,Misfits, and Black Flag. Chris's guitar never sounded better ,and with Shane on drums ,we were pretty tight! Plese leave comments ,and let me know what you think of this great recording! Thanks! Great cover shot of The Draft House (blue roof) with the shitty ZOO ,next door!

THE DONNAS/TOILET BOYS split 7"

The Donnas ,towards the end of their existence ,sounding much like the Runaways and Kiss ,and other 70's hard rock outfits ,meet the Toilet Boys ,who also favor the sound of 70's styled hard rock ,put this split out thru Lookout Records back in 1999. I like the Donnas ,but I prefer the early stuff ,when they were aping the Ramones. The Toilet Boys ,well,I've never seeked out any of their other stuff ,so I can't really speak on them, other than to say ,their lead singer looks like a girl ,but is not! This is pretty rockin' though! On pure white vinyl (see pics in zip)

ONE FELL SWOOP - First Gig Practice Tape

This is a re-post of the practice for the first One Fell Swoop gig!(originally posted May 7,2010).
Recorded live, 1/23/1992,(20 years ago ,today!), at Gramps, the Cat Machine house, and the typewriter case, pizza pan drum rim, hammer and pliers drumset is in full-effect.The first half is originals, the second half we cover: the Flamin' Groovies(twice), the Fall, Hendrix(2 hits), and Kiss. The between song banter is good for a few guffaws, and we were still re-learning these songs, picked from several sessions. Good for what it is. The song," I Need Cash",swipes a Kike riff! The first gig led to a residency as the "house" band of the Draft House, (for a few months), we actually cracked downtown wide open ,bringing in opening acts ,and making a place for kids to hang out ,and see and hear local and out-of-area bands. Before that ,there wasn't really any venues for punk/alternative bands to play. Art by Eric J. This has been posted for nearly 2 years ,and only 10 downloads? Well ,now that I've fit it into the sequence of tapes ,posted in order of their recording dates ,maybe more of you will get to hear this!

ONE FELL SWOOP - A Really Wanky Live Thing

Oct. 8 ,1991 ,between 2 and 4 a.m. ,Ed,Joel,& Chipmonk ,drank a bottle of Bacardi dark ,and busted out this tape! The lead track,(Teach Wants Quiet!) features samples from one of the first (1949), juvenile delinquent movies ,"City Across the River" ,about a gang of kids named "The Amboy Dukes" (from whence The Nuge pinched the name for his early group). The samples come from the shop scene ,when the boys are givin the"teach" ,a hard time.We did this song live several times, and it was always a hit!!Fucking hilarious!!! People loved getting into the song!there is also a Kiss cover ,and a few revealing spoken pieces, plus the all-important ,"One Fell Swoop Code" ,which doubles as a "life" code. And my old dog ,Iggy ,puts vocals on ,"The Dog Says ,'How' ". Then we took a break and recorded the tape above this between 5:30 and 7:30 on Oct 8 ,1991. So check that out!!

BLONDIE - Punk Goddess - Live,Interviews,Rare,Demos

Hey,I found this tape,in a box load of unlabled tapes, and I probably recorded it off the radio in the early 80's. I don't think you'll find this anywhere else! I kept the recording intact ,as one track ,which runs almost a half-hour. It sounds like the ,"Eat To The Beat" tour, and they do some songs you may not have heard before. I also included a file of early demos ,and a slideshow of 100 of my favorite images of Debbie Harry! Some nude shots from different eras, and a bunch of sexy photos. The pic I used above,is nowhere on the web, until now. It came from an old ,"KISS" ,fan magazine ,Peter Criss is on the back of Debbie! It's my favorite photo of her ,I've had it since the late 70's! Just the epitome of a punk girl! Well, enjoy this boot, and the pics!

PAUL REID - A Letter To My Love

A Canadian poet, reads some classic stuff.Sounds like a stalker ,on my fave track here ,"I Looked For You Last Night" , and sounds kinds pervy on tracks like ,"Miss You",(not The Rolling Stones hit) and "I Want You"(not the KISS hit). And sounds like El Duce,The Sleep Bandit (Can You Stand It?),on the track ,"To A Sleeping Beauty".Funny ass love poems, that you will listen to again, and again.

THE KISSFITS

Another parody tribute, this time 2 bands, obviously, another bunch of geniuses, who took their joke to the limit.Still fine versions of 2 Misfits , and 2 Kiss songs, great stage act, I'd go see 'em if they went on tour.I think this was a one-off gig tho'.

RAMMPAGE-debut ep

This is some biker bar band from the Ft. Myers scene.I don't think anyone in our scene would know them, since none of us ,with a few exceptions, have been known to frequent biker bars.4 songs that verge on heavy metal, really some chooglin' ol' hard rock.I can hear Alice Cooper,Kiss,Tygers Of Pan Tang,Motley Crue, all blended up with some southern rock.A couple of times they almost sound like the great cheez metal band,Rokker, which is cool, since Rammpage hasn't a clue.Recorded at Sound Check Studios,in the FTM.Not bad, very rare,if you like rock music at all, you'll be diggin' this. They can't spell.

UNCUT- 10

it's now 2010,and the first posting of the year is UNCUT 10.more broken record mantras, from an escaped lunatic who loves destroying ,playing, and recording old vinyl records.each "cut" is an "uncut",just a snippet sample of one part of a song ,repeatedly played.in some cases ,you'll hear more than one sample on an uncut.as is the case with the second half of this release,an extendo remix version of an uncut from #9,"desperate psychedelic flashback 60's acid mole gravel stomp(all my acid head friends are coming over tonight!)",an exploration of the beach boys covering,"louie, louie",and sounds like the soundtrack to a tripping party!the first half features, kiss, aerosmith, burl ives,hip-hop breakdance beats,as well as the beach boys ,and more!
lots of great uncuts here, and a few more to come, the tapes are numbered to # 14!please some rappers out there ,use my samples, and kick me back some $$,and possibly some work!thanks!

Paul Stanley Hologram

this is me with luke and seth ford, one night at sluggisha/w.g.o.d. studios.pretty awesome can't pinpoint their sound but my best guess would be pseudo-alternative grunge rock, which sounds like this.if you don't like it ,you're crazy, the fords rock.oh,it sounds nothing remotely like kiss or paul stanley,or the fords of chaos.found the action figure in the pic at a dollar store and wished i would have bought all 3 there cuz i never seen 'em again.the last song is about a commercial for an automatic litter tray sweeper for your cat.we saw the commercial ,wrote the tune, bashed it out!enjoy, G O D click here dummy.    https://archive.org/download/PaulStanleyHologram/093PaulStanleyHologram.zip
